"Not all members of the Silver Bells - a rock band made up of hand bell players from the Home Sweet Home senior care facility in Colma - are as old as 76. That's the youngest one. Of course, at that age you can't shake your hand bells for an entire show. Somebody has to step in and give the septuagenarians a break. That would be Veronica DeCoito, the comedian. She's 106. "Do you know why they call us the Silver Bells?" asks band leader Ken Clarke. "Because the Sex Pistols was taken?" she replies. Check out their video at www.silverbells.us, particularly their rendition of Chuck Berry's "You Never Can Tell." Or, with eye candy provided by the leggy Serendipity Dancers - ex-show girls that Clarke says are "in their late 70s and middle 80s" - a ringing version of "Dancing Queen." With a little help from Clarke and his friends - he's a former member of the Red Garter Band on Broadway - they put on a show for the families every year. But now they have a dream - playing the City Hall rotunda. "We've been doing this for two years, and nobody's noticed us," Clarke said. I know supervisors who can say the same thing."
