Ok, anesthesia is wearing off. I'm feeling some mild pain but nothing drastic. Spidra...I'm guessing crotch temperature is brisk in the mid 40s since I'm currently icing the little fellas. 20 minutes on 20 minutes off is what they suggested for the first day.

I forgot to mention there were 2 women in the room along with my male doctor. One was his assistant, the other appeared to be in training. "Anyhow, you told your wife that for best results it needs to be followed up with lots and lots of sex, right? And that there's residual pain that only a BJ can fix, right? No - I'd be called out using the hybrid DM I mentioned earlier. If people don't check FF very often then there's not much via FF you can do. You get a really nice indication that you have a DM in the FF beta.

Do big-name celebs have time for Friendfeed? On Twitter you can pretend to engage by sending a quick @reply to whoever happens to be talking at you when you log in, but for the most part broadcasting without listening. On FriendFeed there seems to be more of an expectation of real interaction.

I don't agree that Twitter is fluff at all. I have awesome conversations there. The view is more contiguous here with the threaded commentary, but that's a tradeoff for ubiquitous mobnile access and simplicity of Twitter.Different tools with different uses for me.

You just made my Twitter argument Colin. I hate being at a desk and using the computer. My Blackberry is my computer most of the time and FriendFeed is utterly unusable on that or my iPod Touch. Twitter wins easily in that mode.

Thanks Nicholas. I hadn't but just looked. Sadly anything that's a web site or m.something site will inherently be unusable on the deplorable Blackberry browser. That may change with the impending 5.0 OS. FFtogo.com does look like it would work on the iPod though. That's one step closer, although requires being in WiFi range. But it's one great tool I didn't have before. Thank you!

Thanks again Nicholas. Actually, I'm really hoping the guys at SocialScope will add FF support after they launch. Their closed beta right now, but we've been using it for quite a while and it truly rocks for Twitter and Facebook. If they add FF they'll own the BB market for a moble app for all three.

FFtogo is far less usable on my BB Curve than Sheryl's Bold. Just usable on hers. I had to really shrink fonts and while I could use it, it's difficult enough that I wouldn't. Twitter SMS is far easier. That's the FF problem for me. Unless I'm at a PC with keyboard it just isn't as easy (or elegant) for me to use. Simlicity is elegance and while FF has real value, it can't be my first place without solid mobile support.

It's easy Robert. The Touch keyboard sucks. Period. I tpye about 6 WPM on it and close to 50 on BB. Touchscreen technology in the Touch is not anywhere near good enough to mainstream. I played with an iPhone and found it more usable, but still not enough to ever consider buying one. I can read on the Touch, but if I can't interact, why even try? ;-)

I love the touch for music, video and other things. Anything that requires keyboard interaction will drive me to set it aside and do something else. It's one reason I never lusted for an iPhone. The interface slows me down and reduces productivity. Not a good tool for my working style I guess.

OK. I'm more concerned with the development of the FF, which is altogether a more promising service, than one-trick-pony Twitter. Also, reading some of the threads here, one can easily get twitterrified with Twitcentricity of the common Twitterverse. Where did we go wrong – don't answer that rhetorical question. We were chugging along nicely for close to 2M years, Homo Habilis to Sapiens, no Twitter in sight, then all of a sudden get our nickers in a twi(s)t because Twitter is down again?

yes, I am over fourty and I use email. What I had when I used elm or pine is that all my conversations with friends, family and contacts where in the same place, easy to backup and browse. Now they are scattered all over the Internet. In a way Friendfeed unifies and this is a hint of the right way to go. Apps lose, APIs win always.

No. I have said this repeatedly in this thread: They are charging, when no other Social Networks are, in addition to not being funded. Not only that, their app does not support video - which is what their site is about. I don't know about you, but that is beyond bizarre to me.

Seems like a good work around for a (i)phone that doesn't do video unless you jailbreak. I mean, the problem is with Apple not 12seconds. 12seconds has tried to come up with a (i)phone option for their users. This is a company that has spent less than 100k to get operational and I believe they all still have day jobs. I'll try it out for .99; what the heck.

Mona - This is Sol one of the founders of 12seconds. I hear you. Our app and our product isn't for everyone. However, we have every right to try to create revenue. We're doing our best given that Apple doesn't allow video and a huge percentage of our users have iPhones (and don't want to jailbreak it). 12seconds is about sharing moments, not live streaming video. We think the app accomplishes this. AND we think it is worth 99 cents (which isn't very much).

Sorry guys, in my earlier comment I said we should see video support via s/w upgrade soon, but a comment in another thread made me think about the EVIL that holds back iPhone - at&t. Video apps + support might be filtered out by at&t based on bandwidth concerns, like they did with removing podcaster and apple's 50 MB podcast limit. It's something we should have in the back of our heads.

Granted, their 99cent price will get them less takers, but once the iPhone sdk allows video capture, they will be on it like butter on a hot potato and release an update, and will be the 1st app on iPhone with video capabilities. I don't quite see the connection between Yahoo (an internet company) and co-producing media like CBS shows. It's like suggesting that Google grow up and make washing machines or Apple start manufacturing lingerie. What has an internet company got to do with doing more of old school media?

TechMeme has a heavy bias towards previous sources. So, Scoble has the reputation already and his posts generally get considered. Because other "big-name" blogs pick up the story, it hits techmeme. I do not totally understand techmeme, but that is the general pattern I have seen.

TechMeMe does a good job Jesse. It can't always be expected to be perfect. You can literally see the changes Gabe makes to try and keep it relevant.

CNN linked to my blog yesterday. That's why I got onto Techmeme. Techmeme is a crap shoot. None of my videos have been on there, even though many are damn interesting. But Daniel is right. This is my highest-trafficed post in quite a while. Lots of people need to know about resumes, and stories about how to get through this wacky economy will do well. Facebook developers getting hurt? Only affects a few so won't get as much attention.

Robert, you're way more popular than I am :-) I expect news from Techmeme, with FriendFeed it's my own responsibility to make news and I have more control over that. Techmeme I have no control. BTW, I wasn't trying to say your post wasn't good - I really liked it, and agree with it actually. I just thought it was less "news" than mine. I think you're right - Techmeme is very much a crap-shoot. I've never been able to predict the articles of mine that have made it there.

And BTW, apps being down isn't just affecting developers - it's affecting millions of users, and perhaps some of the fate of our nation. Several election apps have been down all weekend, just before the deadline to register to vote.

Jesse: I've never been able to predict which ones of my things will get to TechMeme either. It depends on what people want to link to for whatever reasons. More people linked to this one than link to other things I do, even though the other things I do are more important, I think. I agree your article should have been there.

Which brings an interesting point - what happens when blogs stop re-reporting orignal news? What happens when all that transitions over to FriendFeed? Will Techmeme survive, or adapt? Or will that never happen?

Well, good content is the most important, but publicity is definitely required as well. If you are not a huge blog, then you need to work FriendFeed, Digg, Mixx, Reddit, etc. Otherwise, you will be entirely dependent on others determining whether your content is worthy.

Can you do that without Techmeme though? I receive way more traffic from Techmeme than all of those combined (well, perhaps minus Digg or Reddit, but I've never been on those)

Funny you say that. I have gotten significantly more social media traffic (including friendfeed) than I have ever received from TechMeme. I have not been a lead/headline on TechMeme though.
