"Feelin’ left in the dust while all your Outlook-loving PC friends get all the cool BlackBerry stuff? Well, RIM has been hard at work on the Mac side of things, and we’ve got a first look at BlackBerry Media Sync for Mac. This isn’t a final version so don’t get too depressed that the options are pretty limited at this time. We’d expect the final software to break down media types like photos, music, videos, and more. In its current state you can only sync music from your iTunes playlists, and it’s all very straight-forward. As far as the options go, you can choose where to sync your music to (device or memory card), choose to select individual playlists or all of them, and… that’s about it. We’ll quit talkin’ and let you do the lookin’. After the break, of course." - ben barren via Bookmarklet

Since the season premiere of Mad Men on AMC last night, people have been scrambling and googling to find out more about the poet Frank O'Hara and his book Meditations in an Emergency. The title of the book began as a very sophisticated literary joke, an allusion to John Donne's "Meditations on Emergent Occasions." But as sometimes happened in O'Hara's poetry, the joke turned out to have a surplus of meaning. His poems are meditations -- but not the kind that comes after hours of quiet thought; they proceed from the heart of noise; they are written on the run, in a hurry, on a lunch break, in a perennial emergency. O'Hara's poems perfectly capture the pace of a New York day in 1962. He is a master of the art of gentle self-laceration: "Now I am quietly waiting for / the catastrophe of my personality / to seem beautiful again, / and interesting, and modern." - ben barren

appssavvy reports that it has worked with 100 developers on the Facebook platform who account for 500 applications, as well as developers working on OpenSocial, Bebo, and a number of other social networks. Because there are so many developers and applications available across these social networks, it can be hard for advertisers to find an appropriate match for their brands. appssavvy acts as a middleman between these developers and major corporations like Fox and Adidas, giving developers ad revenue and offering brands targeted advertising. - ben barren

"But wait, that wasn't enough strangeness for Betty… because when she came home -- following a sexual encounter with Don that she then made clear didn't signal anything more in terms of reconciliation – she found Glen hiding in her backyard. Yes, Glen, the odd little boy from Season 1 who Betty behaved rather inappropriately with, giving him some of her hair when he asked. The scenes between the two that followed were creepy, as Betty gave him Don's shirt to wear, made him food and sat watching TV and holding hands with him, in a warped vision of domestic life. It was hard not to feel tense and uneasy watching this, because it seemed way too possible that something might actually happen between this very young boy and this grown woman. The amazing thing about that is that if it did, even though it would certainly not be condonable, you can actually see emotionally why Betty might do something of the sort, in the wake of what's happened with Don and her father and the painful whirlwind it has put her throu" - ben barren via Bookmarklet

Dior Homme jeans are sometimes also sold in stores such as Saks, Barneys, Harrods, and other fashion department stores. Generally only a few high-selling locations will get the line, so it is best to call and make sure they do, in fact, carry Dior Homme before actually going. The main attraction of Dior Homme denim is the cut. The three main cuts available from Dior Homme are: the 21cm cut, the 17.5cm cut, and the popular 19cm cut. Each refers to the hem measurements. Hedi based these cuts off of two A.P.C. cuts. The 21cm is similar to the New Standard, and the 19cm is similar to the New Cure. Additionally, online stores and proxies offer a large selection of current Dior Homme items. Some online sites selling Dior Homme are: www.eluxury.com www.luisaviaroma.com Be warned, however, that the customs fee from ordering a single pair of jeans from LVR will be about 60 dollars. www.brownsfashion.com www.yoox.com www.diabro.net and others. It's much better, in my opinion, to go with the freemium model, give a version of the service away for free to all comers, get a lot of users, get good market feedback, then develop a premium version of the product/service for sale to enterprise customers. If your free version is popular with a lot of users, your customer base is the target for the upsell and you might be able to live without an expensive sales force initially. And, of course, keep your costs really low until you start to get revenues. In summary, freemium is far from dead, in fact it may be the business model de rigueur. - ben barren

We know Joan's potential is being squandered after seeing her in the television department a few weeks back, but her brief screentime here was a nice reminder of what a good secretary she is. She anticipates Don's needs, immediately understands and executes his requests and doesn't ask unnecessary questions. Meanwhile, you could cut the tension between Don, Joan and Roger with a knife. She could barely stand to look at him, and Don was only slightly more cordial. And without realizing it, Don gave Joan an outlet for her frustration by telling her to tell Paul about the California trip. She couldn't get back at Roger for hooking up with the hated Jane, but she could at least hurt her other disliked office ex by humiliating Paul in front of the others by giving the bad news in person rather than drafting a memo. You do not mess with Joan Holloway. - ben barren via Bookmarklet

J.Crew - Contrast-Collar Shirts - The Upgrader on Men.Style.Com

$65US : "Unlike the well-starched versions favored by Gordon Gekko and his off-screen acolytes, the current take on the white-collar is all about rumpled style—it's a casual staple all dressed up, and not vice versa. Here's a perfect example. With its tailored fit, softer "peached" cotton fabric, and details like contrast side-seam gussets, J. Crew's Favorite shirt may well end up living up to its name." - ben barren via Bookmarklet

Band of Outsiders - America: Conquerer of the Global Menswear Market - TIME
September 30 at 8:05 pm - via Bookmarklet - Link
"He favors the nattily elegant look of Brooks Brothers classics—khakis, trench coats, double-breasted jackets—seen through ironic eyes. "I knew I wanted to be part of the cultural dialogue somehow," says Sternberg, 33, a former CAA agent and self-described clotheshorse and geek. "Like a cinephile knows about film, I know about clothes." With no fashion training other than his shopping habit, he opened his company almost five years ago, hoping to make the kind of classic but twisted clothes he favors. "I don't relate to a slick European sensibility, and I don't wear a lot of black," Sternberg says. Instead, Band of Outsiders' signatures tend toward shrunken prep-school blazers and Jacquard ties." - ben barren via Bookmarklet
