Rotary Phone Interface for the iPhone
June 28 at 11:07 pm - via Reshare - Link
I used to be like a speed demon on rotary phones. I thought it was really cool to be able to dial super fast. *sob* I'm soooo old!!! - Tad - the Meme Maker
I can still remember them as standard :-) - Duncan Riley
Can you use the Captain Crunch whistle with this?....;-) - Ross Maguire
What was that Ross? (edit: Ahhh... wiki knows all) - Tad - the Meme Maker
I remember them too. Cool! - Marina Yu. Nikulina
Yes Tad, back in the good old days of phreaking - Ross Maguire
I remember these - I used to break these apart and look at the metal pieces inside them when I was "young" (I guess I was 8 then). I broke 3 of three of these phones and one big Radio thing. Good ol' days when I can break things and not get shouted at... - Yuvi
I can remember when this was all fields, far as the eye can see. Course, they don't make 'em like they used to. Kids today? Don't know they're born. OH MY GOD I'VE TURNED OLD!!! - Slippy Lane
The most demented thing I think I've seen yet. My parents actually still have two rotary phones at their house. The kids look at them and yell for help. - Cyndy
@Tad try being able to remember the old 1 long 2short ring crank phones :) when my parents first moved out of the city the small town we lived outside of still had its own local exchange and we had a party line phone - private line phones were horrendously expensive :) - Steven Hodson
RETRO FTW! childhood memories come flooding back... ahhhh! - Susan Beebe
Alright! Now I can get an iPhone! - Mike Lewis
That rocks... ill take 2 - Britney Mason
My parents did not switch out their phone for years. It was awful using those again. Now I get to frustrate my children. - Russellreno
I love this. - Clay Newton

PHP:Dreamweaver 8 - Travis Cooper
Java:Eclipse, Rational Software Developer (Eclipse Based) - Travis Cooper
Flex:Flex Builder 3(Eclipse Based) - Travis Cooper
For PHP, CSS, HTML, etc, I use Panic's Coda. For everything else, I usually find myself sshing into the server and using vim. Nearly all of my web development revolves around PHP, database administration, and server administration. - Mark Trapp
I use Eclipse for Java... I'd prefer IntelliJ, but then it's not free, so. For pretty much everything else I use Gedit (woo Linux) hacked up with some sake tasks to make development easier. - Tommy Morgan
Python:Emacs, Python:TextMate (on mac) - Adnan
KDevelop on Linux. Seriously. I use it for HTML, CSS, JS, PHP, and Python. - possible248
I'm working in ASP.NET currently, so it Visual Studio all the way - Glenn Slaven
NetBeans - scott anderson
mcedit - Grant Bierman
No IDE, just Textmate. - Ole Begemann
50% Textmate 50% Aptana/SVN - Andrew Wooldridge
Textmate & Firebug 99% of the time. Visual Studio when IE is being particularly naughty. - Jason Wehmhoener
I use Vim nearly all the time, although it's not an IDE. - Morton Fox
eclipse for java stuff. textmate for the real fun: ruby. :-) - Kevin Smith
Kate on Linux, for Ruby, Java, HTML/CSS, and plain-text. :) possible248: I thought KDevelop was a bit too heavyweight. - Benjamin Kudria
Benjamin: It is a bit heavy for simple coding, but I like it's the right fit for me. - possible248
Zend Studio for Eclipse. It's pretty good, but it crashes sometimes. - Hao Chen
vi - The six editor!! :) :) - Bwana McCall
komodo editor, vim, gedit - Syam Kumar R
DreamWeaver CS3 for html, And Visual Studio 2008 for code - FrenchW
Everything from DreamWeaver to Notepad to Vim to pico to pixels... - Daniel Schildt
PHP: Zend studio and vi, .NET: Visual Studio, python: pyDev, vi adn Visual Studio. - Sudar
I use vim/kate for all kind of coding. - k00pa
I stick w/ textmate as much as possible, but I have to develop in .net... so obviously visual studio, which, for me is way too heavy for a web platform ide - ben bloch
From time to time I have used Dreamweaver mostly because of it's autocomplete but use many different tools depending on where I work. - Daniel Schildt
My time is split between Textmate, Vi and Flex Builder. I enjoy using Textmate and Vi. If I could, I'd rather not use Flex Builder/Eclipse. - Paul Grav
Vim, although it's not really an IDE. - Morton Fox

“Does anyone plan to import feeds into their rooms? (new feature for room admins)”
June 16 at 9:08 pm - Link
This is where admins and moderators come into play. What constitutes a topical, "relevant feed"? - Anthony Farrior
We're talking about it in the Environment room. Will it add community or noise? Jury is still out. - Chris Baskind
this was my first thought, great idea, could become a noise machine without the right pruning. - Tsega Dinka
I'm not planning on it. The concept does not fit well with the few rooms I moderate. - Kevin D. White
For some reason I can't get a shared items feed from Google Reader to work. - David Owens
I did it for the Achewood room (http://friendfeed.com/rooms/ac...). Chris Onstad has feeds for each of the characters in the strip, and it lends itself really nicely to it. - Mark Trapp
Others are talking about doing a FF search on the public feed and adding that to the room (I have a Formula 1 room -http://friendfeed.com/rooms/fo... that I have added a search for "formula 1" rss to to see what happens) - Brian Sullivan
seems to be a problem when using a ff search in a room http://friendfeed.com/e/4d6d06... - Brian Sullivan
I've added several feeds to my two rooms. The twitter room has the twitter status blog, which just seems too perfect, and my mac room now has a few mac feeds for news and software. Seemed appropriate to me. - Brad McCrorey
Brad, those seem like appropriate uses for room feeds. I couldn't imagine that a feed would be beneficial to this room. - ben bloch
i think you have to carefully deliberate on what feeds to bring in. what would you bring in here? - Brian Breslin
we could add the feed from every other room and make a master friendfeed rooms room (just kidding) - ben bloch
Just added a feed to the Zune room I created. I'll have to see if I like that or not, as I usually Share posts into the room from the feed I added anyway. So it seems that if the feed has lots of posts Shared in the room, there's room for lots of duplication... - Craig Eddy
Consensus in the Environment room was "no." But i think the feed feature will be useful to a lot of people. - Chris Baskind
Interesting idea. Including the entire netvibes: WorldDemocracy into #democracy kinda. - MattisManzel
I think it's a good addition to the rooms, whether too much will lead to overkill remains to be seen! - Joe Dawson
For sure, Will be very useful if used properly, there is allready rooms centered around all users including their feed ex. http://friendfeed.com/rooms/sh... - Tony C.
I have a room (lastfmfeeds) that is entirely built around the feeds that go into it. Over a dozen of us have shared our last.fm "recently played tracks" RSS feeds, allowing commentary on the tracks that show up. One person is also feeding the usual last.fm "loved items" feed. Only administrators can add feeds, though (which is probably a good thing overall, but was a little time-consuming in the beginning). - Ontario Emperor

I see this feature just now~~really cool! - K.D.
nice - Caleb Elston
Excellent, a great way to get the content of a room going. Nice work. - AJ Kohn
Great Improvement Bret!!! wow, this could be Bloggers' Central in no time!! woo hoo! - Susan Beebe
Great addition. Also, how about a way to pipe in search results for one or more queries? I suppose until a more native solution is available, a room admin can simply add a feed for a particular search query and have the results added as entries - Aviv
Nice! Just what I was hoping for! - Jesse Stay via twhirl
Aviv - I imagine there will be plenty of summize feed based rooms popping up shortly - Bwana McCall
Nice! Added all RSSmeme tagged stories on my blog to http://friendfeed.com/rooms/rs... - Benjamin Golub
What's funny is I was looking for this feature when I created a room earlier and realized it didn't exist. Great minds!! - Shey
awesome. - Jason Kaneshiro
not bad but here's a simple question .. how the hell do I delete a Room. I created one that I thouhgt I would play around with but would like it gone however I don't see any obvious way to delete it - Steven Hodson
Yeah, I'd like to drop some rooms too. - possible248
Hey guys, next we need furniture in our rooms! =) Just think of all the fun we could have with that! Virtual tweetup on FF!! woo hoo! - Susan Beebe
What a cool feature! - Eric Hamilton
where are we supposed to add the site to the room? It must not be something obvious cuz I don't see it - JohnBfromMemphis via twhirl
JohnB: it is only available for room administrators. Click "Share something" and then "import" or "Edit/add" on the RHS of the page. - Bret Taylor
so it doesn't work for existing rooms? it should - JohnBfromMemphis via twhirl
sorry I see it where you were talking about now Bret . .had to logout and back in again ..Thanks!! - JohnBfromMemphis via twhirl
Great feature!! Love it when you guys work with the community. - Frankie Warren
I'd like the feeds to still keep the names/authors of the feed...if a room has multiple feeds from different authors it would help distinguish them. I'd also like to see room posts on the frontpage off-colored so they stand out: like a light yellow background or something. - Paul Arterburn
Awesome! Love it! - AJ Batac ♘
Good stuff! - Phil Glockner
My first idea was to allow all room members to stream their feeds to the room, but that would make most larger rooms extremely noisy, so this is perhaps the better solution. - Thomas Frütel
Very nice, thanks guys! - Aaron Myers
Excellent. I can't believe how good Friendfeed is (I can believe it, but they always surpass). - Alex Hammer

a friend lost mad followers after her account replayed her last tweet on loop over 30 times in less than 24 hours - Baratunde Thurston
There's some great subtext in all of this, that people are concerned with such a thing in the social space. I notice once in a while, but rarely care if I lose followers or not. - Eric Rice
I am embarrassed to admit I monitor my follower number constantly, even though I realize it's a foolish thing to be concerned about. I also lost fifteen last night for no obvious reason. - Nathan Rein

“I'm really not liking Plurk. I have a feeling that there going to lock users into the web interface as much as they can”
June 5 at 4:24 am - Link
If that is case then it won't be a good replacement for twitter. What about Plurk is making you suspicious? - Kevin D. White
Kevin: This article I read that suggested they "discourage the development of desktop apps" http://www.webware.com/8301-1_... - Gerard Barberi
Funny thing is I never saw it as a replacement for Twitter.. - Maki
Plurk's UI will be key to its success and unique experience setting it apart from the rest. Basic, boring, desktop apps will help turn it into yet another twitter clone pushing updates around. I don't necessarily agree with their approach (if it is indeed the case) - but I can see why it might serve them best in the long-run, as well as their users (or not). Will be interesting to see how the community reacts in the months to come. - Aviv
I'm still skeptical of Plurk - I see it as officially adding to my noise, rather than helping me keep in touch with people. - David Cohn
I like Plurk, but also like the directness of twitter. Not liking that they want to lock us into the UI - Steaprok
I have to completely disagree. I am in love with Plurk and I think it is the future of microblogged-conversations... but you already knew that :) - Muhammad Saleem
as long as there is RSS I can Plurk to Twitter to friendfeed. which means it is all good. you want to be the bottomfeeder... I can meet you on Plurk. sounds like a grandma fart by the way - AnotherⓃⓄⒶⒽ
Plurk is getting a little overwhelming. I think it will get time to get used to. I think a Twhirl-like application will enhance the experience. - Reem Abeidoh
It's great for when Twitter is down, and easier to follow. But I still prefer Pownce. But right now FF seems the only thing fully up. Plurk is down and Pownce and Twitter are both slow. I was almost afraid I'd have to resort to Facebook! - Heidi Cool
what really pisses me off is the karma fascist (twitter nazi horde people)... the so called elitists that don't ever speak out for what is right. they are so keen on all their pathetic eMom friends that they got by ass kissing at the expense of the dignity of anything good and true are just watering at the mouth at plurk. plurk is an inferior standard and it would be awesome if friendfeed kicked its ass in. - AnotherⓃⓄⒶⒽ
I think Plurk is a hoot. Mostly I've just been silly over there, but the interface makes it easier to follow threads than Twitter. You still can't get the full conversation that you can on Pownce, but they've made some good choices there. And the mktg has been brilliant. Seriously the karma thing makes people far more active than they might be otherwise. I don''t need to change my screen name, but I'm 2.5 pts away from 40 and I still want to get there as stupid as that may be. - Heidi Cool

Every other community I've been involved in has had a place for moderators to gather and discuss issues of moderation and community management. I couldn't find a room for this on FF already so I created this one. The room is currently semi-public with the only requirement being you must be a moderator to join. Just tell me the room you moderate when you request access. I'll try to invite new moderators as I seen them as well. - Kevin D. White

Excellent. Learning to moderate can be scary but also extremely rewarding. There are lots of questions and very few, if any, absolute right answers. Every moderator develops their own style. It is absolutely fascinating to watch it evolve. - Kevin D. White
