Good looking CMS. Based on a monthly subscription. In my opinion, no CMS should use a monthly subscription model. I would buy it in a heartbeat if it were a one time fee kinda thing.

Chris Wetherell (the chap who kicked off Google Reader in his apartment) has posted about Pegs a pattern for having one scrollbar but independent scrolling areas. It is more than display: fixed in that it can be smart. If you visit the demo you will see it in action. After the first time, click around on the other items such as flipping between sizes of areas. You will see that different areas scroll depending on the config. This is definitely something that people will be skeptical about. It feels weird. It isn’t what we are used too. The demo app also is jumpy and acts a little strange, but it is interesting to play with these ideas. This implementation uses jQuery, and you can enjoy some minified source.

TinyEditor is a simple JavaScript WYSIWYG editor that is both lightweight (8KB) and standalone. It can easily be customized to integrate with any website through CSS and the multitude of parameters. It handles most of the basic formatting needs and has some functionality built in to help keep the rendered markup as clean as possible. The icons are courtesy of famfamfam and have been combined into a sprite so there are only a few HTTP requests for the editor. I plan on adding some updates in the future to support font color, a full-screen mode, and a paste from Word option.

A common interface on modern-day websites is that of a title, summary and a “read more”-style link. Normally only the title and “read more” text is linked, however, the entire content would benefit from this behaviour.

CSS3 is coming. Although the browser support of CSS 3 is still very limited, many designers across the globe experiment with new powerful features of the language, using graceful degradation for users with older browsers and using the new possibilites of CSS3 for users with modern browsers. That’s a reasonable solution — after all it doesn’t make sense to avoid learning CSS3 (that will be heavily used in the future) only because these features are not supported yet. The point of this article is to give you a glimpse of what will be possible soon and what you will be using soon and provide you with an opportunity to learn about new CSS3 techniques and features.

Good project management allows you to focus on the most logical direction you need to steer your project towards. This is why a helpful set of project management tools is becoming less of an option and more of a need. Whatever time is wasted on out-of-date management tools is time you'll never get back.

Running a “one-man (or woman) design show” can become quite daunting, especially if you are the only one responsible for responding to emails, marketing, designing, phone conversations, invoicing, proposals, tracking expenses, collaborating with others involved with the project, tracking time… rinse, repeat.
