That's priceless. Great job, guys. - John Craft
This is superb. I just showed it to my 5 year old son who enjoys Lego and has already taken some great photos, including one or two of his toys. So now he has the seed of the idea that, in time, he could take multiple stills and put them together to make moving pictures. Thank you very much for posting it and giving me and him that opportunity. Maybe, he might use FriendFeed one day too! - John W Lewis
Great project! - Anne Bouey
AWESOME! - Kevin Fox
I think they need to make a full stop-motion version of the Matrix in legos. Now THAT would be awesome. I wonder what bullet-time looks like in LEGO? - Bret Taylor

Improve FriendFeed for your friends by recommending subscriptions - FriendFeed Blog
"As a devoted FriendFeed user, I have tried to convince all of my friends and family to join the site, but a handful of them never quite got their accounts set up properly. With our new Recommend friends feature, I can fix their FriendFeed experience by recommending subscriptions to them." Try it out at - Bret Taylor from Bookmarklet
Excellent feature, gooood idea! - Susan Beebe
Very cool =) - FFing Enigma
Cool stuff. - Mike Bracco
Uh, it tells me that Scoble, among others, could use the recommendations. WTF? Perhaps I have too few subscriptions for this to work. - Fred Yankowski
more good stuff - Dobromir Hadzhiev
Finally a better recommendation - directeur
I'd still love an "e-mail this item" feature, similar to Google Reader. - Jesse Stay
great idea! - Edwin Khodabakchian
Cool! Beats the heck out of #followfriday!! - Larry Hawes
What am I supposed to get when I click the 'recommend friends' link on someone's pop-up? Currently, the popup just goes away and I don't get directed anywhere else. - FFing Enigma
Fred: yah, unfortunately, you can only recommend people who you are subscribed you and who are also subscribed back to you. - Bret Taylor
Mark, I didn't submit a bug report since what is supposed to happen wasn't actually spelled out on the blog post or here; this might be the intended functionality... I hope not, but it's possible. - FFing Enigma
Tina: it is supposed to pop up a dialog. Sorry for the trouble - we will look into it. - Bret Taylor
At first I did not understand this, but now that I am checking it out, it is brilliant and addresses much of what we have complained about. NOW what will we complain about? - Liza + = ?
Just to confirm Bret, the first image in the blog post is what the pop up is supposed to look like, right? Because that's nothing like what the page looks like.... - FFing Enigma
I notice that new subscriptions are automatically added to one's home feed. I consider that kind of a bug. - Meryn Stol
Tina: yes, that is correct. The page is just a list of people that we think could use some friend recommendations since they have few subscriptions. If you click on any of the "Recommend" links on that page, you will see the same, standard "Recommend friends" dialog. - Bret Taylor
User-driven...I like. - Josh Haley
Where would we find recommendations that others suggest to us? - Fred Yankowski
@Bret, who receive the recommandation see also who is the recommender? - Roberto
Fred: You will receive an email as well as a notification on the top of your feed. - Ross Miller
Roberto: yes, they see who recommended - Bret Taylor
Not getting the pop-over when I click 'recommend' on the page either... FFox 3.0.12 if it's relevant. - FFing Enigma
Bret, if I recommend friends to people who haven't signed in for a long time, will they get email? A lot of my bored friends are not active FF users I think. (quite logical) - Meryn Stol
and can I see who has accepted my recommendation? - Roberto
Roberto: You won't be notified if they accept/deny as the recommender. - Ross Miller
Ross: Ah, it just appeared on my feed. Cool. (And thanks Meryn) - Fred Yankowski
Meryn: yes, they will get an email with your recommendations - Bret Taylor from email
Bret, I accidently just received an email with previous recommendations. I had already viewed them through the web-interface. But indeed, it's there. Email looks good too, as I expected of course. :) - Meryn Stol
hey Robert Scoble....I have a trade send my name to all your friends...i send your name to all of my friends for the rest of my life.... - Bob DeMarco
I would like that deal, too, Scoble. I like this a lot. - Ben Hanten
Bob: I charge $1 per friend. :-) just kidding, but the UI makes it so hard to send you to more than a few people. - Robert Scoble from iPhone
Bret: You guys rock! This is so much better than FollowFriday, which I recommended just a while back. Now, I'm waiting for some recommendation emails! :) - Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
If there’s something about friends and family not having their account set up properly, I’d prefer a way to recommend them the streams they forgot to add. For example, I could tell them “You forgot to add your Digg stream and your fourth and eight blog. Here’s the link.” Then he could just click the recommendation and had it set up easily. - Natsuki Seika
Definitely better than #followfriday. - Bernie Goldbach
As I have lots of subscriptions the pop-up window is *really* slow and always has been since the new UI (same thing for amending friends lists). :-( I like the feature though, so I could make a new friends list of my most recommended users and use that each time for each user? - Kol Tregaskes

When I was working at Google, I wanted to build (essentially) Uber. I asked some friends and got shot down because "you'll be in regulatory hell forever, taxi companies have monopolies, cities won't let you get away with it". I was disillusioned and gave up.
They weren't necessarily wrong. I think the economic collapse has kind of smoothed over some of the bureaucratic protectionism when it comes to this kind of market disruption. - NOT THE CRICKET
I think Uber is working in CA because limousine service is state-licensed instead of city-licensed. But I wouldn't be surprised if they don't run into problems soon anyways. The taxi companies are fighting the bandit cabs: - Andrew C (✔)
Andrew, Uber is in most large metros, not just CA. Definitely a good place to have started though. - NOT THE CRICKET
Yes, I already knew Uber is in more than just CA; I meant that its ability to operate in CA is due to being state-licensed. - Andrew C (✔)
Sounds like a good idea to me. - Larry Hosken
Andrew's LA Weekly link is incredible. So on the one hand, he only had to serve 8 days in jail out of his 150 day sentence. But on the other hand, he got sentenced to 150 days in jail for having an incompletely filled out form! - Gabe

So I just went through airport security at SFO, and the security guy looked at my ID and said "Norris? Are you related to Jack Norris?" and I said "Yeah, that's my dad" because my dad works at UCSF so he meets a lot of people here. And the security guy said "Oh wow, really? You look like him. He has a house in Napa?" and I said "...yes, I live in...
"his house in Napa." And then the security guy leans REALLY close to me and asks "Are you Republican?" And I said "...actually I haven't voted recently, I've been out of the country," and the security guy said "Well you should thank your dad for being Republican. I read his stuff online every day and it really inspires me."" - Jessie
And right then I realized he actually said CHUCK Norris but I couldn't understand him because the airport is noisy and he had an accent. - Jessie

photo 4.JPG
Gorgeous! - Katy S
Are you trying to make it change (and changing the pH of the soil)? - Tudor Bosman
Yes Tudor. I use a product called True Blue, it adds Aluminum back into the soil. - Rachel Lea Fox
Ours are staying blue without us adding anything since we planted them last summer, which is somewhat surprising. - Tudor Bosman
Tudor, if you have decent soil to start with it will take 2 or 3 years before they start to change to pink. This bush is about 5 years old I believe. I'm rather proud of it, it came in the mail as basically a stick and I swore I would end up killing it before it actually grew anything green or flowered. I managed to keep it alive! - Rachel Lea Fox
I love, love, love hydrangeas. ♥ - Alix May
It looks great while it changes. I wonder how difficult it would be to maintain the proper pH to keep the hydrangea on the cusp of changing color. - Tudor Bosman
Alix, me too. this is one of 6 I have. I'm planning a photo shoot with one of my lace hydrangeas soon. Tudor, I'm not really sure, I've never been good at that. I intend to just keep adding the true blue at normal intervals as recommended. I prefer the white, blue or really deep pink colors. I like the light pink here when it is mixed with the purple and blue, but it isn't really my favorite on it's own. - Rachel Lea Fox

Folly: The Facebook Open Source Library -
Folly: The Facebook Open Source Library
"Facebook is built on open source from top to bottom, and could not exist without it. As engineers here, we use, contribute to, and release a lot of open source software, including pieces of our core infrastructure such as HipHop and Thrift.   But in our C++ services code, one clear bottleneck to releasing more work has been that any open sourced project needed to break dependencies on unreleased internal library code. To help solve that problem, today we open sourced an initial release of Folly, a collection of reusable C++ library artifacts developed and used at Facebook. This announcement was made at our C++ conference at Facebook in Menlo Park, CA." - Tudor Bosman from Bookmarklet

"Diablo 3 overrides all my misgivings because it’s just so damned much fun. We often decry the game industry’s stubborn unwillingness to evolve, dishing out the same old stuff over and over. The adult doesn't, but its caterpillars do eat, but they feed on trees (mainly maples and oaks) rather than wool. - John (bird whisperer)
You mean cabbage moths don't eat cabbage???!!!!! *mind blown* - Melly
I don't know about cabbage moths, but the adult rosy maple moth's only objective in life is to reproduce. No reason to eat, so no mouth. I find that kind of fascinating. Also, what John said. - Derrick
How long do they live? - Melly
If adult moths do have mouthparts (some do and some don't), they're for sipping nectar, like a butterfly's proboscis. Adults generally only live a few weeks unless they spend the winter in hibernation. Caterpillars (their larval stage) usually feed on plant material like leaves or seeds, although a few are predatory (mainly against other insects). There are a lot of moths and butterflies that feed on cabbage in their larval stage. - John (bird whisperer)
I love the way this thread became John layin' down the science and learning *smile* I had no idea there were mouthless moths. I also find it fascinating. - Michael W. May

"When I heard the rumors about a B&W-only digital M camera body a few months ago, I was a bit skeptical. Who would want such a thing when it is so easy to convert M9 images to B&W in a matter of seconds with LR, Silver Efex or (insert favorite image processing software here)? I chalked it up to just being one of those far-fetched rumors that never materializes into a real product. As May 10 approached, the rumors were still going strong for this B&W M9. Leica’s none-too-subtle hints tended to support it as well – the name of the event, Das Wesentliche (translation: The Essentials), the B&W image promoting the event, the avant-garde location of Berlin. But, I resisted drawing any conclusion until the actual announcement." - Tudor Bosman from Bookmarklet

#SaturdayFF and a gift for joey: When I was a little girl I would spend several summer afternoons playing at my Great Grandparents house. On those super hot (Rochester NY) summers we would often sit on the front porch and my grandparents would watch the world go by. My sister and I would get bored but it was too hot to move. So my Great...
...Grandmother would pinch off Fuchsia flowers and make little dolls. She would take a bud and a fully bloomed flower and use a part of a toothpick (taken from my Great Grandfather's stash for chewing and picking his teeth - always kept on the porch) and she would stick the bud on top of the flower. Sometimes they would come out looking like the bud was the head, sometimes it looked more like a hat or hair like it does here. They always looked like beautiful dancing dolls. She would make a few for my sister and me and we would lay on the fake grass carpet on the porch and dance our dolls around and sip sun tea lemonade (Grandma's special mix with lots of sugar). - Rachel Lea Fox
I haven't thought about those dolls in a long time. I loved them so much as a kid. joey recenlty posted a couple of beautiful photos of her fuchsia and it reminded me of all of this. joey knowing you recently lost your Grandmother and were having a rough day I wanted to make you a fuchsia doll. However they don't travel very well, so a photograph will have to do. I also bought a... more... - Rachel Lea Fox

Thanks Higlet and Holly. Starmama, that is awesome. When I made these I used fishing line instead of toothpicks. I like this method better because a. the fishing line is thiner and easier to put in. b. you have something else to hold it by rather than holding the flowers and c. you can make them dance by swinging the line. Now I want to tape the line to the washer or dryer and watch them dance! AWESOME!! - Rachel Lea Fox
