Social Media Identity: Personal vs. Professional - http://bhc3.wordpress.com/2008...
"The smaller the company, the more closely your personal and professional identities are tied." However, I think this depends on the corporate culture at the companies where you work. A lot of corporate refugees I've worked with strive to create different types of companies, where more of your persona can be active. As someone once taught me, if you are only 90% satisfied with your job, you may leave. Most Fortune 500s have <50% retention rate, and retention is a big worry of Fortune 500 (& smaller) CEOs. - Mitchell Tsai
You're preaching to the choir here, Mitchell. Good point! - Hutch Carpenter
Hutch. There are different choirs though (1) Some people were always rebels or techies/geeks, and never really made it into the corporate structures of Proctor & Gamble (2) Some experienced corporates left, and went to the open source, freedom-loving side (3) Some corporates were forced to leave the A-type personalities due to "heart attack" or mid-life crisis. - All these groups might view on-line openness differently. - Mitchell Tsai
