Hutch Carpenter
Working on a kindergarten application essay. Yes, a kindergarten essay. Not something my parents had to worry about when I was a kid.
ZOMG - Yuvi
That's right Yuvi. Reminds me of my college applications. - Hutch Carpenter
Are you kidding me? Wow. I can't even imagine. - Anika
Only for the private schools. But it's something you have to be ready for in San Francisco. - Hutch Carpenter
aren't you a little old for kindergarten? ;) - felix
felix - LOL! The hardest part is the question, "where do you see yourself in 30 years?" :-p - Hutch Carpenter
Hutch, at my age the answer would be easy, "dead". :D - Jack&Cleo
Jack - LOL. I hear you on that. - Hutch Carpenter
Abby - too true, too true... - Hutch Carpenter
Include SWOT analysis. - Oldengrey (Jay)
Oh yes, Jay. Good call. Will complement my 50-slide PowerPoint that I'm attaching to the app... - Hutch Carpenter
What, no video application? - AJ Kohn
How long is the application? What could they possibly ask? *smh* - Derrick
AJ - true. Perhaps Harrison saying a few words for the Admissions Board. - Hutch Carpenter
Derrick - it varies by school. The one last night is just a single essay. They do limit you to 260 words. - Hutch Carpenter
Who do they think they are, Twitter? - Derrick
Abby - most of the privates require an essay or two. Plus a visit to see how your child interacts with others. It's really not all that bad. You get to write about your kid, which is fun. - Hutch Carpenter
They have to make it seem competitive to justify the value. I'm putting three kids thru private school in SF. The process is goofy. But everybody goes somewhere. The good news is college is easier, thousands of schools vs a handful. - Oldengrey (Jay)
Sounds strange to me - if the parents' writing isnt to the satisfaction of the school, either in content or style, that's it, your kid cant get into kindergarten??? I would have thought it would be the other way around, the parent getting essays from the teachers in the place on why we should entrust our kids to them, what they can contribute! - Iphigenie
Jay - didn't realize you're a veteran of the process. Any tips? - Hutch Carpenter
Joelle - that's an interesting point. One dynamic that affects that thought. Oversupply or overdemand of good schools? That situation changes the roles a bit. - Hutch Carpenter
Hutch: For tips we can move to DM twitter if you like. I am @oldengrey. - Oldengrey (Jay)
Thx Jay - will follow-up. We're heading out to get the Christmas tree right now. - Hutch Carpenter
I remember having to do the pre-kindergarten interviews. It was weird. - Eric Rice
Eric - all turned out well? - Hutch Carpenter
They got accepted, so yeah :) - Eric Rice
Awesome Eric! Not an easy thing to do in San Francisco. - Hutch Carpenter
"ANy club that would have me as a member..." - Stephen Pierzchala
Ha - true Stephen, true. - Hutch Carpenter
Hutch: Silicon Valley, not SF... I'm sure it's probably harder, I dunno - Eric Rice
