@petefields Companies should follow all who follow them. I'd bet companies' tweet reading is more keyword & @reply based, not person based.
That sounds like it would be really hard to scale, Hutch. Do you want your CM spending 8 hours a day reading tweets by followers that might not be related to the company? I'm sure there is a good mix and I agree that keyword monitoring is insufficient, but I don't know where the right middle ground is. I imagine constant monitoring and revision of the workflow would help though. - Daniel J. Pritchett

Ha! I just don't see a company spending a lot of time focused on specific people. They've got too many customers to do that. Think of Scott Monty at Ford. This does say something about the nature of corporate twitter usage vs. personal. - Hutch Carpenter
As a company do you autofollow? If so, should a brand's following @loldrugsandguns be taken as a black mark against the company? I have autofollowed a few embarassing tweeters in the past. I have autofollow off now for that and a few other reasons. - Daniel J. Pritchett
