Can there be a universal standard for tags? Multi-word tags, comma separated. Odd combos (underscore, dot, combined) are messy, inconsistent

at one point I started work on a plan that would use a site like technorati to help standardize tags and build things like synonym lists, to try to reduce the chaos. I really ought to dust it off again. still needed.

I'm with you Andy! And Chuq - that work sounds interesting. Trick would be getting it out to all the apps where tagging occurs.

The worst one is where a space seperates tags . . . which renders multi word tags ineffective >.<

Commas would be great, I'd even accept | but space separated tags bite.

Space separators are bad. You think you've created "enterprise 2.0", then you see this odd "2.0" hanging out there in your tag cloud.
