I made it! Most influential British Twitter users revealed - Telegraph (UPDATE: wow - thanks so so much guys. Can't believe the love i have on here.) - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technol...
well done, Zee! Glad you're ahead of Peter Andre....:)
- WorldofHiglet
Hi, Zee ! je vais de ce pas jeter un coup d'oeil chez les Britons ;-)
- Desirade
zee - gifted followers = default list/suggested user list - when a media outlet reports on "x account has y followers" it's almost like there needs to be a notation that they were given the followers as a freebie.
- Allen Stern
Strange enough, the link to the PM's wife's Twitter page isn't direct; it's <http://go.telegraph.co.uk/...>...is this done to possibly track the number of clicks or something? All the other Twitter accounts listed are direct links
- Itachi
i thought that everyone has agreed to used "listed" as the new 'count that matters' -- there's more of a meaning to listing someone and there never was a suggested list... however... the more followers you have the more chances to be listed there are ( i guess )
- Chris Heath
Heh, nvm, seems it was a bug on my end. The link does take you to her Twitter page, but while I was mousing over the links I saw the go.telegraph.co.uk link and was a little perplexed why they had that there. It's gone now after a refresh
- Itachi
wow - thanks so so much guys. Can't believe the love i have on here.

Now don't let it go to your head and start thinking that services need to bend the way they function to your will and don't start ripping services when they can't perform to insane, unrealistic, and just plane silly standards. "WTF GReader's interface starts breaking down and failing when ever I try to display 1 million individual RSS feeds on 15 inch screen at one time, this is entirely unusable!"
- Matthew DeVries
He finally got on my nerves. Had to hide his latest Friendfeed bashing so I could get on with my life. I have this issue with sticking with arguments no matter what and Robert always seems to push a button of mine.
- Mathew™ one of a kind
certainly a very opinionated and knowledgable brother Alex .. must be some interesting discussions when the brothers meet ...
- johnpiercy
I have a funny feeling that you love arguing whether it's your brother or not
- Davis Freeberg
Alex certainly does, but at least his arguing is productive or fun.
- Mathew™ one of a kind
What is your brother wrong about *now*, Alex?
- cecily
I totally understand! I feel the same way when my sister and my brother are wrong. More so with my sister, because she's older and seems to think that fact makes her right more often. It doesn't.
- Katy S
So as soon as Twitter is down Robert returns to FriendFeed. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
He is always wrong Alex.. you are are always right ;o)
- Rob Sellen :o)
Definitely ... too bad I don't know anybody famous.
- Brian Sullivan
When you give examples or tell a story, do you try to weave in famous people that you've met?
- Cristo
Brian, you must not be trying very hard then.
- Cristo
No, hell no, and definitely not. I know a handful but go out of my way to ensure their privacy is not violated. A big step is not bragging about knowing them. Besides, I feel most are better off because THEY know ME! :)
- jcunwired
Do you trust someone more because they say that so-and-so famous person told them something? E.g. As I was sitting next to Rep. X on the plane they said that the FCC is going to make Twitter the official US micro-blogging service.
- Cristo
I think getting to meet and/or hang with rich/famous people gave me an opportunity to get a perspective on what really matters (to me), so, in that sense, I think I've gained something as the result.
- ɐ ɯıʞ sıɹɥɔ
I wouldn't personally know. But knowing people from FF has made me a better person.
- Morgan Haley
Rodfather, the person who knows famous people, or the particular famous person?
- Cristo
Not a goal to meet them, but I'm related to a semi-famous person so sometimes I talk about him, but definitely not a goal.
- Jimminy Fuller
Famous people, no. Interesting people, yes. Some of the interesting people I've met happen to be famous, but that's not what I have usually found interesting about them. I've taken things away from those meetings that have made me a better person.
- Jennifer Dittrich
It depends on the person. And how much you let someone influence you. But I'd have the same answer if you removed the word "famous."
- Lo
Do you like to read blogs where the blogger is constantly talking about all the famous people they've met, as if that makes him an authority on everything?
- Cristo
If it was an entertainment blog, maybe.
- Rodfather
What about a technical & social media blog?
- Cristo
If the famous person has access and knowledge of pre-released products, maybe. Angelina Jolie had one of the Palm Pre test devices. If the blogger got some inside scoop on that at the time, then I would probably read it.
- Rodfather
I think knowing exceptional people makes one a better person. Doesn't matter if they are famous.
- Alex Scoble
It certainly hasn't made me one. A lot of them are really quite normal to tell you the truth.
- Itachi
Famous people are famous because of all the non-famous people who know them, right? It's only human nature to brag. Or so my good friends Tom Hanks and Albert Einstein say.
- Stephen Mack

Only being a better person can make you a better person, and we each bear sole responsibility for our quality in humanity. Internet fame is better than "proper" fame because it ends when it's supposed to :-)
- Slappy Line
Somerimes Its good for me to talk to someboby rich or powerful or famous because I find out they have problems too, sometimes same as mine sometimes different but just enough so that money, fame and power didn't solve it all. This forces me to quit whining and man up. Of course visiting hospital has a very similar function ;)
- WarLord
The only reason I wish I knew someone rich and famous is to get into a suite at the football game Sunday and the bowl game on the 27th instead of sitting in the cold. Other than that, I don't really care.
- Alan Simpson
Alan, thanks. You reminded me there is football on tonight. :)
- Cristo
If you can learn something from "famous" then it will make you a better person but that can be said for any person. It all depends upon that famous person.
- ashish
I think Mona is the only one getting this. :)
- Cristo
Not a better person but more interesting at dinner. Especially if you slept with Tiger Woods. ;-)
- Robert Scoble
it can change your social status but it is ethically irrelevant
- barbarars
I AM famous. Y'all betta rekonize up in here. Holla at me in the VIP section.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
I run into Burning Buildings and have done CPR on more dead people than most of you have seen "LIVE" people ,, does that make me a HERO ,, of course not ...
- johnpiercy
Robert, did you sleep with Tiger Woods? It doesn't seem like that exclusive of a club lately. ;)
- Cristo
Cristo: I slept with a Tiger, but I don't think I slept with THAT Tiger! :-)
- Robert Scoble
Prolly not but it can give an interesting perspective on things. :-)

For someone who claims he wants to be around people who make him smarter, his posts often leave me feeling dumber.
- Akiva Moskovitz
believe it or not this wasn't specifically directed at Robert. But his post today did help trigger it.
- Joe Pierce
Oh, yeah, I hid his feed long ago. I obviously can't make him smarter, so it was for the best.
- Derrick
Around here I sometimes feel like I have to 'explain' the fact that I like Robert quite a bit like some families feel they have to 'explain' (often in a whisper) why little Timmy runs around with a bucket on his head.
- Akiva Moskovitz
He has a feed all to himself on my page and I forgot about it (ooops!) so I went to look and that whole thing about the conversations on here and the "smarter" post was the top one. It made me giggle
- Nurse Katie
I want to like Robert Scoble. I really do, we used to have some meaningful conversation here and he used to bring something to Friendfeed, but I just don't think he does anymore.
- Mathew™ one of a kind
Probably because he doesn't get anything out of it anymore. And I don't mean usefulness as a service but usefulness in the sense of him cheerleading for it. I think he gets more ROI out of what he can make noise about than the actual thing itself. It's part of his job. Him cheering on FriendFeed now for the people he wants to impress is like him cheering on the idea of a flat earth to a physicist.
- Akiva Moskovitz
I hid him a long time ago. That dude is in denial that he is a total troll.

"A photo turns up of you nakedly doing something that would shame you and your family for generations. Bestiality, perhaps. How many people in your life you would trust with that photo? If you're like the rest of us, you probably have at most two. Even more depressing, studies show that about one out of four people have no one they can confide in. The average number of close friends we say we have is dropping fast, down dramatically in just the last 20 years. Why?" (According to them: Segmented society.)

Well I've lost my good pay and benefits. But I will still have a part time job at Dottrend. Tomorrow is pretty much my last day full time. Then starting January 5th I will work 2 days a week. Giving me 16 hrs. As time goes by and hopefully things pick up and we gain back all the lost money I will get more hours until I can get back to full time....
Thanks. But I'll be ok. Not the first or second time this has happened to me. I'll figure something out, I always seem to.

Yes I did. I started about 6 months ago. Unfortunatley the economy has claimed a few of our clients. Including a really big one that filed for bankruptcy. So even though we have been getting a lot of new work we have lost too much money this quarter.

Well, the upside is that they didn't fully lay you off, so they're optimistic or being nice because it's the season. Can you still get unemployment benefits?
- Admiral Anika
No, we are optimistic that things will turn around. Luckily we aren't in the red. Just at the point of floating. I'm going to look at unemployment for the next couple weeks I'm out of work. But I can't once I start back. That is why I'm looking to really get the freelance thing going.

I'm sorry Mathew. But it sounds like you have a plan (re: freelance), so maybe this will turn out to be an opportunity rather than a loss. You seem to have a good attitude about it.
- Junebug (aka Sarah Jill)
Yeah. It does give me another chance to really go after freelance work (which I've already gained) and also I will be able to still be there part time and hopefully things pick up in the first couple months. I have other back up plans too. Now that I've gotten through the depression cycle I'm realizing that things aren't as bad as they seemed.

I was unlucky enough to visit Paris before I knew what these were! wah! :( I'll be happy to try some from Starbucks, though. I might order some online from Laduree, or maybe, if I'm fortunate, I'll get back to Paris again.

Kamilah - when I get back to my computer, I'll send you a list of my favorite macaron places in the US - Bouchon and Jean Georges not included (they're too sweet and get the filling to cookie ratio wrong!) So glad to see there are people who love them as much as me! :) #macaronloversUNITE

Ugh... they better not be anything like Moon Pies. All the things I've read say they're crisp on the outside, and Moon Pies are not. They're also smaller in size. It also sounds like they come in a variety of subtle flavors. I need to taste one so that I can answer authoritatively!

"If this trade-off carries the day, the opt out public option is gone. In its place will be many of the alternatives we've been hearing about, including a Medicare expansion and a triggered, federally-based public option. As has been widely reported, one of the trade-offs will be to extend a version of the Federal Employees Health Benefits Plan to consumers in the exchanges. Insurance companies will have the option of creating nationally-based non-profit insurance plans that would offered on the exchanges in every state. However if insurance companies don't step up to the plate to offer such plans, that will trigger a national public option."

"Beyond that, the group agreed--contingent upon CBO analysis--to a Medicare buy in. That buy-in option would be available to uninsured people aged 55-64 in 2011--before the exchanges open. For the period between 2011 and 2014, when the exchanges do open, the Medicare option will not be subsidized (and so will likely be quite expensive). However, after the exchanges launch, the Medicare...

This doesn't sound as bad as the initial reports, but it's still not very good.
- John (a.k.a. dendroica)
I had been afraid there would only be the extension to FEHBP run by private insurance companies, which seemed pretty useless. I doubt very much this particular trigger will be pulled, so don't care much about it one way or the other. But the Medicare buy-in for ages 55-64 has the potential to be very helpful, and if that stays in, I'll be happy.
- Ruchira S. Datta
I want to see what medicare at 55 looks like, so far my laid off friends 60 and run out their cobra then are utterly expensively stuck until 65 some with pre-existing conditions can't get insurance for any price - this could be a huge benefit bridging to 65 even if its expensive as typical cobra
- WarLord
What's the public option trigger look like? I mean, could insurance companies forestall it by offering nationwide, but _unaffordable_ plans?
- Andrew C
Why is there a delay of years at all? Set it to next month, or the public option kicks in.
- Andy Bakun
I don't think there should be a delay. I think the main reason for it is an accounting trick, to make the 10-year budget number smaller.
- John (a.k.a. dendroica)
Andrew: According to what I've read, the public option would be triggered if none of the insurance companies offered non-profit, nationwide plans through the exchange.
- John (a.k.a. dendroica)
Ruchira and WarLord: I think allowing people 55-64 to buy into Medicare (or a Medicare-like government plan) is the best aspect of the deal that I've seen so far, and one that should have been there from the beginning. It won't help me, but it's still an improvement for the country as a whole.
- John (a.k.a. dendroica)
He hopes that in two years he can convince her to not divorce him, which would cost $300M. Or two years would be long enough for him to divest his assets in such a way that divorce costs him less :)

If she divorced him _now_, it could seriously eat into his earnings via endorsement losses, even if that money doesn't go to her. So he has a serious financial incentive to get her to stick around. (though wow, she got him to agree to several-times-a-DAY marriage counselling.)
