I spend all weekend fussing over my computer - editing a podcast, installing and reinstalling operating systems, just trying to get everything working right - and what do I find when I wake up this morning? My computer crashed and my external HD - home to all of my movies, music, and important docs - on the verge of total failure.
Yeah, I'm really beginning to hate anything formatting in FAT. Number of crashes in EXT3 and EXT4 before I install XP? 0. MSDOS FAIL.

Thankfully, I was able to reboot the machine after a couple of tries, but the HD is locked in a read-only state, which, according to the Ubuntu Forums, means imminent crash. Only solution? Format the HD in something other than FAT32 - like the new EXT4 setup I have in Ubuntu.

Hope it works out.(formatting) , don't you have a back-up of the ext-HD data?
