Why is everyone reacting so violently? You have no idea how it'll play out.
- Gus
Because, thanks to FriendFeed's inability to give a single clue as to what's up, the only thing we can do at this point is freak the eff out.
- Brad Williamson
Yeah, a lot of things are being kept quiet, and I don't think that the original FriendFeed will stay the same. Chances are that it will either be changed to the point where we don't like it, or just removed completely--but with FriendFeed's real-time and search features implemented into Facebook. It's a big win if you want Facebook to become more like FriendFeed, but bad if you like FriendFeed itself.
- Rishabh Mishra (p248)
FB took the people behind FF and plenty of users are not terribly confident that FF will continue to be developed or maintained as it has been in the past.
- Joe Silence is Dr. Teeth!
If you want to know how the FB acquisition of FF will turn out, look at Google's acquisition of Feedburner. Feedburner is still a very useful service, but it innovation stopped once it was bought, and you can no longer get questions answered.
- ComicList
Comic: All they will commit to is not shutting down FF in the "near-future," or "near-term," or however it was phrased. FF is going to go away, so I don't think that analogy will hold -- this situation is even worse than that.
- Christopher A Carr
ComicList: the question is - how many services have facebook acquired? google aquired alot and learnt through trial and error what the best practice is - facebook hasnt had that expirience yet!
- Chris Clayton
THIS IS EXCITING!! the only reason i joined FF in the first place!!
- Ann Okafor
@Ann - it may be exciting for you who have invested no time in FF to see it consumed but for those of us who've actually participated and cultivated friendships and relationships here, it is quite disappointing.
- Lindsay is in 20-ten
so, so sad. I like(d) Friendfeed much more than facebook
- Francisco Kemeny
home run for FF.. Facebook will be able to give developers a treasure trove of data one thing that Twitter is dominating on right now. Twitter has a huge developer community but isn't managing that. Here FB is poised to be huge
- John Furrier
So classic that Robert has the first interview about this...Where's Louis? :)

here was a comment on SiliconANGLE blog .. very funny .. "Hey, since we've copied almost every innovation you've had, guess you might as well play on the company softball team!"
- John Furrier
Nice strategic move - Interesting to see how this will integrate and looks in 12 months
- Alex Vermeule (@alexve)
to be honnest I was predicting google offer, then facebook preceed google on this, they are doing well, now rarding FF this is great, the sucess is to know when to pass to something else, the future will make the abtle wave, facebook rude for all geek it is time to code.
- abdellah
You rascal Robert, bet you had wind about FriendFeed and FaceBook merger before today? Yes? Have not used either SM apps. much UNTIL Twitter locked my account. May have been a fortunate mishap as it turns out. Getting to know the beauties of both apps. =)
- SashaKane
do you have a small amount of FriendFeed shares Robert?
- Torsten Eckert
NOOOOOOO. Damnit! I am praying that Facebook doesn't wall up Friendfeed. I was starting to build a site around Friendfeed :(
- beersage
beersage: as Facebook is trying to break their users into a more public world, I doubt that you really have anything to worry about there.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Starting to listen to this now. Hoping you are right, Rob.
- beersage
I hope so to. But regardless, I think that it was in reality necessary for FriendFeed to sell to really put the technology in front of a sufficient number of eyeballs. Facebook is probably the best acquirer that FriendFeed could have. (I would have not felt the same had FF been acquired by Google)
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
The thing with Friendfeed though is how I can share things outside of a 'wall.' I prominently feature the FF widget on my site. I'm just concerned of losing that capability as I was tinkering with delivering a new site w/ content primarily running through my Friendfeed account. I am to this day unable to do much outside of the wall. I am unable to subscribe to Fan Page updates in Google reader for instance. That is what concerns me about FB acquiring FF given my goals.
- beersage
Robert sounded quite breathless in that interview. Thanks Robert.
- Roberto Bonini
Wow! I'm in shock. I can't wait to hear this interview.
- Micah Wittman
from iPhone
This deal was about getting Paul and the team and nothing else
- Stephen Pickering
@stephan, are you serious? FB is buying a concept, a technoloie, a structure, a content and a user list
- abdellah
Unconvincing Paul Buchheit, the team is more exited of being part of bigger story - logical for them to move on
- patrickdh
now how could a team that left google resist under a unique perception system, where the leader vision is upon any thing
- abdellah
They want a way to turn their white pages into a yellow pages and the only guy on Earth who knows how to do it, is Paul
- Stephen Pickering
It was only about the technology and the people. Most people are on also FB anyway.
- James Myatt
My guess is that Paul got a tooooooooon of options and will soon be the No.2 guy at Facebook
- Stephen Pickering
Glossing over of that "short term" question by the FF boys. It just seems more about the individuals at FF than it does the users of FF. "Their (Facebook) long term goals" Nice interview, Robert!
- Melanie Reed
Well, it looks as if pass-through of FriendFeed Likes, Comments, etc. to Twitter is down. Will it be for good? Did Twitter do this in response to the acquisition? Or is it just a regular (though curiously timed) hiccup?
- Alex Schleber
this is why your own personal website is always more important than friendfeed, Twitter and all the rest. that's never going anywhere
- Terry O'Fee
from BuddyFeed
"After acquiring On2's video compression codecs in a deal valued at approximately $106.5 million in stock, will Google simply turn around and open source them? It certainly looks that way. In both the press release and the blog post announcing the acquisition of On2, Google makes a point of saying that it believes "high-quality video compression technology should be a part of the web platform" - and that On2 is a means of achieving that goal. As is typical of Googlespeak, this tells us close to nothing. But if you also consider the company's so far fruitless efforts to push through a video tag for HTML 5 - the still gestating update to the web's hypertext markup language - the On2 acquisition looks an awful lot like an effort to solve this browser-maker impasse."
- Paul Buchheit
from Bookmarklet
Reporters are always asking me if I think that Google is still "good". My answer is always yes, and this is an example of why.
- Paul Buchheit
That was my first thought, too. The HTML5 group has been having conflict over using H.264 (licensing) vs Ogg (no penetration, worrisome quality and CPU usage). This could solve the whole thing.
- Don MacAskill
"Do you worry about having a big butt or those unsightly “thunder thighs”? Researchers state that having a little extra weight in the butt and hips may protect you against type 2 diabetes. Researchers at Harvard Medical School found that subcutaneous fat, which is fat found just beneath the skin, actually aided in improving sensitivity to the hormone insulin, which regulates blood sugar." - original post: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health...

As mentioned, Facebook has made it easier to set a user’s status. Get ready for streaming Facebook status tools galore. Just over one month ago I suggested that opening up that status API would be the first step toward Facebook killing Twitter. Now we will see if this really has as large of an effect as I claimed it would.
- Leo Laporte
Interesting. Do people really think that Twitter is going to die? It has been fairly resilient so far...
- John T Brady
I personally don't fell that setting my Facebook status and posting stuff on Twitter are even in the same class. That's just my opinion.
- Jason Dean
Nope, it's not going anywhere. As long as it does one thing and makes it easy, it's going to grow. But interesting. Plus as Jason says, the two are very different
- Deepak Singh
i'd still use twitter. Facebook is for friends. Twitter is for friends and strangers. I don't want just anyone seeing my facebook info.
- Sidney
Don't forget that Facebook status messages have a person's name prepended to them, which, combined with the potential for tools and such, will likely lead to even more garbage in the FB ecosystem. I'll stick to Twitter, thanks.
- Chris, Taskerrific Guy
I hate Facebook and the only reason I use it is for conversation, but yeah I prefer Twitter. Less noisy.
- MarkCarras
Twitter won't die. Does this mean that we'll be seeing support for Facebook Status updates in Twhirl and similar, soon?
- Tyson Key
Twitter has more mature users than Facebook, too, ones who won't complain if you unfollow them, generally.
- Chris, Taskerrific Guy
Just a linkbait blog there. They are too different to even think they are competitors. I'm not a fan of Facebook, too insecure. Twitter FTW.
- No FB
FB's API is a mess. Every time they update, something breaks. The apps speak for themselves: http://adonomics.com/about... - don't get me wrong, I am happy (hate FB applications!) but FB is known to be developer unfriendly. I don't see FB killing Twitter any time soon.
- Mona Nomura
this will have not impact on Twitter I think.
- Davide D'Incau
"I should note that Mashable’s traffic is up recently, according to Compete, which is also troubling for TechCrunch. I don’t get that, though. Mashable lately hasn’t been as interesting as ReadWriteWeb, in my view. I think there’s a blog post in there about that. http://siteanalytics.compete.com/centern..."
- Robert Scoble
Robert, just curious how you define interesting in this context? I suppose that's probably pending information coming in the blog post you mention.
- Jennifer Van Grove
I'm not sure how much trouble they are in. TechCrunch still has enough brand power to last at least several years of drought. Ad rev will take the biggest hit, so I expect Arrington to look for other ways to generate cash, more things like the TC50.
- Alex Wilhelm (FF BLOWS)
But seriously, this will be the year of consolidation. And we need it. Services need to combine into complex websites, instead of just linking together...this includes tech news sources.
- Bob Blunk
Easy answer Robert: Mashable's content has a wider appeal. It's not narrow niche, it mixes the startup reviews with practical how to's and guides etc....
- Duncan Riley
Duncan: which is why you're going for the celebrity news, right? I get that's where most of the audience is. I am just going to follow my heart and talking about Britney Spears just isn't me.
- Robert Scoble
I believe if Mashable is increasing in traffic, it's due to their policy of writers frequently doing lists, with a goal of gaming Digg. They've gone lists crazy.
- Louis Gray
I commented on the post itself but it's in moderation. Mashable has been disappointing to me for awhile now. They're one of those I dropped from the feed reader.
- Karoli
Agree with Karoli. Also the sheer volume of mashable posts on a daily basis caused me to unsub it in my Greader.
- Atul Arora
I've been disappointed there, but for different reasons :-p. I can't really speak to all of that publicly, unfortunately, since it's a very interesting conversation. Broadly, though, I can say that if you look back at the Mashable/TC/RWW compete graph several months back, you can see that we all rose and fell in almost perfect parity. I think there's an editorial on Mashable somewhere from March '08 where I talk about the need for early adopters and big brand blogs to think about the mainstream if they ..
- Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
"What TechCrunch, GigaOm, et al have going for them is strong brands that should give them the wherewithal to weather the storm." I agree they have a strong brand, but users are looking for quality content. I find breaking news via TC, better writers via GigaOm and better 'how to' with ReadWriteWeb. But all I need is a link from Twitter or FF. The network with best SEO & understands Google Chrome is the one that will be around to celebrate 2010. I would not bet against Arrington.
- Julio F ~ @SocialJulio
So often I have found that the worst content gets the most traffic, but since those sites do not go for quality it is short lived and they end up going under a few months later.
- MarkCarras
Robert, but having said that we're also mindful you might not want the celeb stuff (from the record it's 11% of traffic) which is why we offer category specific pages and feeds. But sure, in the broader gist, our going wide was inspired given the market now. If we were stuck in a niche we'd be dead by now.
- Duncan Riley
rachael: how do you know mashable is male? But it is pretty hot!
- Robert Scoble
Jason: I'm # 24, but I'm not worried. I have a Google tent and can sleep on the beach.
- Robert Scoble
Agree with Duncan. You cant be focussed on niche content. Techcrunch has tried to diversify but they are basically in tech related field only (crunchgear, mobilecrunch, enterprise) whereas inquisitr has someting to offer to everyone. They also dont force you to read all the news by having different feeds
- Sidharth Dassani
I suspect there are many people who actively dislike TechCrunch - you can generally get the same news and analysis from elsewhere without the attitude.
- Andy Davies
every reporter throws in their two cents when reporting, unfortunately TechCrunch frequently throws in a shiny quarter.
- Bob Blunk
I'd be surprised if we even have elections this year. Bush will probably declare Martial Law before Nov
- Bwana ☠
Politics aside, I think it's a good idea for our all of our Senators to be doing their jobs in DC at the moment. Am I really alone in that?
- Mike Lewis
Holy shimones. Would that leave Biden and Palin to duke it out? Might be more entertaining.
- Wilson Craig
the obama campaign is claiming that obama initiated this early this morning asking to release a JOINT statement. mccain agreed, but then went at it on his own taking the spotlight making it look like he was the one who came up with this idea.
- Cee Bee
Interestinger and interestinger. I'm guessing that while McCain is busy helping the other senators, Palin, who's a LOT more popular will continue the campaign. Great idea there John. If they're going to call a complete and total truce it will be really interesting.
- Tad
Via Twitter: McCain is suspending his campaign. I hope Obama will do the same. As right now, figuring out what to do about the economy is #1 priority.
- Mathew™ one of a kind
@cee - I wouldn't be surprised if that were true - do you have a source for that?
- Frederic
Matthew - so you think McCain taking a few days off is going to help fix our economy? reality is right front of you. reach out, sqeeze hard, and get a firm grip
- cjmart
yeah, they just mentioned this on cnn claiming it came from one of the top staffers of the obama campaign
- Cee Bee
A shrewd move...a win-win ploy...if Obama says "no" and forces McCain to debate, then he can tell everyone, "see, I wanted to work on the economy for you and he wants to campaign..." If Obama agrees to it, then it was McCain's idea and not Obama's...despite Obama's protest, the news is reporting it as McCain's idea...someone in Obama's camp dropped the ball...he can't complain too much about it or he'll be seen as being petty...what a crazy election season...
- Live4Emma (L4S)
I agree, the Senators must get to DC and do their job. There's plenty of time for campaigning and debates.
- David Ward
If McCain is really claiming this as his idea, and if Obama really came up with it first, I'm going to fisticuffs with that ol' codger and any of the trolls who are in his camp. It's amazing how these threads make my blood boil. I think I actually turn to them IN ORDER to get my blood boiling!
- Marko Bon
I guess it's a smart political move by McCain, but it just doesn't feel right... Live4Soccer is right - this election seasons is crazy... and absurd...
- Frederic
I agree with Live4Soccer. Obama almost can't win here.
- Michelle Martinez
how is this not seen as a transparent campaign ploy?
- cjmart
Is McCain gonna send Palin back to Alaska too?
- Tad
Well that's an interesting way to get out of the debate Friday night.
- Trish R
I'm actually not opposed to this, unless McCain plans on keeping other elements of the campaign going full steam.
- Tad
I didn't see McCain working on the economy today during the photo ops at the UN with Palin.
- Trish R
wtf - mccain to the rescue? he's no lone ranger. and palin is definitely no tonto!
- cjmart
" McCain also requested that Friday's presidential debate be postponed" Crap. I was looking forward to it.
- Rochelle
It's cheesy...it's a ploy...McCain's campaign handlers are just shrewder, it seems...it's like Obama's crew are reacting instead of setting the agenda..."I'll see your stadium acceptance speech and raise you a Sarah Palin"...and now this. Fascinating. I never thought in a million years thought McCain could distance himself from his party's unpopular incumbent president to really have a shot at this thing...
- Live4Emma (L4S)
Sure, let's add two more people to the mix, that won't slow things down. "Hey everyone!! Hurry up and wait for us!!" It's like my management meetings. 12 managers sitting around nodding and repeating eachothers thoughts. That's efficient.
- Steve Sebestyen
from twhirl
Obama reached out to McCain to discuss the economy issues but it was McCain's idea to postpone the campaign. McCain has no reason to want out of the debate so stop going there. If they have it fine, if not they will reschedule.
- David Ward
"Just heard an announcement on MSNBC that McCain has requested that Friday's debate be postponed so he can focus on the economic plan in front of Congress."
- newsjunk.com
i don't know what to think. is this just one more rung in the ladder leading to the worst campaign in history? this can't really the true reason, could it?
- cjmart
Isn't the economy one of the main focuses of the debate?
- James Ferguson
I got an idea. Maybe he can have Palin sit in for him during the debate.
- PC Easy
from twhirl
If it gets delayed then I would assume that *every* minute will be dedicated to the economy and *none* to any stump speeches, ad strategy, or other sundry political tasks. I mean, essentially he's saying he's a single-threaded entity - only one thing at a time, right?
- AJ Kohn
Now's the time where we see if the Democrats have the balls to stand up to McCain and Palin.
- Tad
"It is not possible to calculate the cost of any bailout, but the huge potential liabilities of the companies could cost taxpayers tens of billions of dollars and make any rescue among the largest in the nation's history, the paper said."

Yikes - thanks for tweeting this. Not good...

Actually, I think this will make the market go up. The markets go down when things are uncertain. The government bailing out Fannie and Freddie will inject a bit of certainty into the financial markets. Something they need right now.

I don't mean to be the conspiracy theorist, but clearly the Treasury department knew something was up to pre-emptively get approval to bail them out. Hope the down turn on Monday isn't as bad as I fear. @AlexScoble lets hope you're right, but I can't imagine the market won't react. This is going to have a huge impact on the govt. and perhaps the value of the dollar.
- Jim Goldstein
Bummer. The gov't has to bail out other people's poor decision making yet again.
- Jason Shultz
from twhirl
The markets most likely have already reacted to this and priced things accordingly. We all knew it was coming. Now that it has, I think that everyone will shrug and go about their business. The financial sector can't get much lower.
- Alex Scoble
+1 Alex - interesting thought but isn't "priced in" news impossible to game, unless your knee deep in the industry? having said that, sure hope your right. i'm too young to stress about the ups and downs, but most of my dad's money is in the market and he has to sell positions on a monthly basis to live on. these ups and downs are damn near killing him.
- cjmart
Yeah, I hope the market stabilizes. The last 10 years have done nothing for my retirement account.
- Alex Scoble
Alex makes a good point...do you have a sense that the markets thought it was this bad? I'd heard news reports about the two companies, was it expected to come to this?
- Hutch Carpenter
Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac have *already* fallen about 90% from their 52-week highs. Combined, it's "only" about $10 billion in suddenly worthless shares at this point :-D almost all held by institutional investors. So yeah everyone saw something bad coming. Still, Monday will be interesting :-D
- Karim
FRE shares are down 90% compared to one year ago. Yes, the market has already priced in a disaster.
- DGentry
So far today the market is up a little (except for NASDAQ which is down). In the morning, the markets reacted favorably to the move by the government, but the markets trended downwards from there.
- Alex Scoble
@AlexScoble while listening to the news this morning I was cringing. I am no market seer LOL We'll see how things play out the rest of the week. From my perspective and what I was hearing on the radio this is just lipstick on a pig. It's not addressing any of the fundamental problems. Time will tell
- Jim Goldstein
Yeah, well it did dip again but ended up for the day. Not such a big surprise...Markets go up on good news and down on bad. Government propping up Fannie and Freddie is good news to the market. Large institutions like that going belly up would be very very bad news to the market. Which is exactly why the government did what it did. Our government is here to, among other things, provide for a stable environment...people often forget this when they make their "let them die" comments.
- Alex Scoble
Looks like you were a day late on your prediction, Jim...but I'm not sure that it took a dive because of Fannie and Freddie...Just more bad news for the economy.
- Alex Scoble
Some day you Californians are going to get a quake that separates you from the U.S. and destroys all your Internet and phone access. THEN WHO WILL BE ON TOP?!

It's not such a terrible thing. It's a world economy. What we had going here couldn't last forever. Now we just have to stop doing things that disadvantage us, and we'll do okay. We need to get to work on our education system, health care, infrastructure, and stop borrowing all that money for things that don't create value -- like the war in Iraq.

You know if McCain started talking like that he might win the election. The thing that's scary is that he doesn't seem to understand where we fit in. Our army isn't going to convince a lot of our adversaries and all of his bluster is going in the wrong direction.

Desperate times! I noticed it a while ago though. Like when I first started blogging. As things like social media and blogging get more and more popular, you are bound to see more and more people bending/breaking the rules to get ahead. In most cases it works against them though.

I love how some guy commented on my "Best Internet Marketing Posts of 2007" post with a YouTube video he created and wrote about in 2008. Not only that, but the guy even added fake "testimonials" for his barely-viewed video! Definitely desperate times. It's sad. It's not hard to sign up for social networks like FriendFeed, use them effectively, and become known. But commenting out of the blue about oneself is not genuine. (And this isn't the most recent case either...)
- Tamar Weinberg
well i would say that a large number of social media blogs are fairly self-promoting, so that's probably in your radar... really depends on what you read...
- Jeremy Toeman
I think it's about time that a blog post be written to address this... in the radar, I guess. What else peeves you about blog comments?
- Tamar Weinberg
i get annoyed by the lack of follow-up in a comment thread. people let the conversation just 'die' too much
- Jeremy Toeman
Strangely yesterday I received a sincere apology from a guy who was promoting his service in comments that were almost off-topic (and he definitely did not seem to read the post itself). And that's my point: I hate it when people submit comments with their thoughts without actually reading my thoughts in the post. The irony is that I may have already described the same ideas right in the post itself.
- Svetlana Gladkova
@Svetlana, I totally agree -- people like to hear themselves but may not actually want to hear you -- and they're using YOUR blog comments as a sound board. Ironic indeed.
- Tamar Weinberg
@Tamar: Ironic indeed but very natural. After all, people have been taught for a while now that blog comments can be used as an efficient marketing and promotional tool and so we see the results now.
- Svetlana Gladkova

The best way to network is to help other people. Also, that's the *only* way to promote yourself on other people's blogs -- leave an interesting comment, and put your URL in the space provided for that.

You should see what he does with the chickens.

I havethis urge to gently push only 1 egg to see what happens .. :)-

oh btw, there are all hardball eggs.. I just made that up ...lol
- Peter Dawson
LOL@Chris, I've been meaning to tell you this but you're one of the wittiest people on FF. I crack up ALL the time at your comments haha

"What a great way to enter the world" ? don't you think it will be similar to how Neo comes of "being" in the Matrix ? IMHO, That would be a horrifying way to be born ! <Edit> No just think of it ..all your unborn brothers and sisters stacked up all around you when u r born ?? What would e your first thoughts ?? Holy Crap, lets get the ef'ing hell out of this scray zone. ok ok.. I digress from this convo. My imagination runs pretty wild at times !!

+1 @Louis -- but in all honesty as @kathleen brought up, what in the world does this message (or the millions of others like it) intend to accomplish?
- Nicholas Kreidberg
Don't you see?!?!? XY is crap cause it only has DNS! XX has both DNS and nutirent, therefore making your homosexual woman be child! It's so simple :)
- Johnny Worthington
Wow, and I was worried Miss Teen South Carolina wasn't going to find work, and such!
- ɐ ɯıʞ sıɹɥɔ
@Nicholas, my guess, and I'm not an expert here, is that it's essentially a test to see if an e-mail is received successfully, and the random text is actually to avoid filters which would be marking it as spam. Once past the filter and delivered successfully, a "real" business-oriented spam message can be sent from any other account. Tamar's account has now been given the "All Clear" message for spammers.
- Louis Gray
@Louis Sounds like a perfectly logical explanation, thank you.
- Nicholas Kreidberg
Louis - good theory. I've received odd e-mails like this and always wondered what the point was.
- Anthony Citrano
Sometimes the emails which make no sense are designed not merely to evade the filters, but actually de-tune the Baysian algorithms which power much of the spam filtering technology out there. By slipping these messages through right at the hairy edge of what is considered spam, they train the algorithms that particular phrases are not strongly associated with spam. A future spam mailing will then take advantage of these phrases to slip through the filters until they tighten up again.

Interesting post, Corvida, as I've felt the same boredom in recent weeks. I do think August ennui has set in and once fall approaches, with all its myriad tech conferences (ahem), new excitement will spring up.
- Carla Thompson
LOL Carla. We've always known it as the "pre-DEMO doldrums" when NOTHING new launches and everyone just churns the same content.
- Cyndy
Why didn't you send me a memo about that Cyndy. DEMO needs to hurry up and get here.
- Corvida
Corvida, we haven't had a good bitchmeme in weeks either.
- Rob Diana
@Rob lol very true. What's there to bitch about that we haven't already bitched about?

early stages of blogger burnout. i've seen it happen to hundreds before. if it were me -- and i've blogged since '99 -- i'd step away from the computer -- and the mobile device -- and do other things for a while. however long it takes. and put the de rigeur 'on hiatus' page on my blog. lol
- .LAG liked that
Unfortunately it hits harder if you are blogging on your own. I agree with what Aaron said in the comments. Guest posting. You could find a friend of yours that does not want to start their own blog and just ask them if they want to contribute to yours every now and again. Its likely they would give you great ideas on where to take things.
- Amber, Random Time Lord
I wondered where you went. :) Don't worry, it's just a little case of burnout. You'll be excited again soon.
- Sarah Perez
There are tons of stories, even in Silicon Valley. I just visited Meebo and learned a ton. They have 10x the users of Twitter. But why is Twitter on Techmeme every week and Meebo isn't?
- Robert Scoble
Sometimes you gotta hit the pause button.
- Bill Sodeman
I just watched Roberts Qik Video on Meebo and installed a chat room on a web site..Interesting for sure
- Ian May
Robert, Meebo mostly just rides the backs of other instant messaging services. Do you want to read about AIM, Yahoo Messenger, Microsoft Messenger -- things that haven't really changed much in years? Isn't some of the reason folks are so enamored w/Twitter because it is a big change vs. those services?
- Robert Seidman
@LAG @Sarah Perez - I don't consider this blogger's burnout. Sarah, we had a talk about my stage of blogger's burnout lol. I still have my desire to blog. I'm just having a hard time finding something of value to blog about.
- Corvida
i think it's just temporary burnout - i get it for a week or so here or there - feels like i've been blogging about the same subject forever (more than 1100 posts on the same subject anyway) but then i get back in to it from a spark. it usually starts by me getting out of my comfort area and checking out new blogs and personalities - there's something about fresh powder that stirs the old desire to write.
- Morgan
@Corvida: the desire to add value to your posts is why people enjoy reading and following you. more power to you.

Corvida - A little confused here. Are you still doing RWW and Mashable, or did you switch? Just curious (I'm sure I'm not the only one ?!)
- Charlie Anzman
Charlie I've only worked for RWW and Guidewire Group, not Mashable.
- Corvida
I've been feeling the same way the last couple weeks

"It would appear that the US President has been briefed by Phoenix scientists about the discovery of something more "provocative" than the discovery of water existing on the Martian surface. "..... Holy. Fucking. SHIT.
- dave mcclure
from Bookmarklet
Wow! That would be something else! For real! Mars Phoenix FTW!!! However, later in the article, they make the following statement: "Scientists are keen to point out however, that this secretive news will in no way indicate the existence of life (past or present) on Mars; Phoenix simply is not equipped make this discovery." Still AMAZING science!
- Brian Daniel Eisenberg
would our president even know what they're talking about? And why would "the president" need to be "briefed" about this? Because if Martians have oil we'll need to bring them democracy first?
- Adam Turetzky
If Phoenix has detected a carbon signature in the soil samples, it's huge. Provocative, indeed: we'd have to go and look for ourselves, most likely. But if we found life so close to Earth, and under such hostile conditions, it would speak strongly to life being more common than previously imagined.
- Chris Baskind
Wow, this is MASSIVE. :) Very cool to see this story unfold.
- sergiooo
I'd be afraid W might launch a massive attack against mars...
- Tad
Turns out the ice they previously found was in a glass, with scotch. And there's a seriously pissed off martian who wants his/her/its drink back :D. Seriously, the "wet chemistry" sensors won't detect organic compounds or "life building blocks" like sugars or aminoacids, but there's lots of unexpected things up there, apparently. It seems that Mars is way more Earth-like than previously thought. Time to pick up "Pale Blue Dot" again, folks.

This time around Bush will tell the public that he was given fals information .......
- John Blanton
from twhirl
Reading a newspaper article this morning - pictures suggested new sediment deposit since last imaging of the same area. Am I right in thinking that means liquid water has moved across part of the surface of Mars in the seven years between missions? That's pretty freaking amazing if you ask me. Dunno about life, but it seems almost inevitable we'll find some kind of organic compounds there sooner or later, even if it IS stuff we've deposited ourselves!
- Slappy Line
Bush will never believe there is life in Phoenix; he is a Texan, after all. He won't hear anything after that.
- ɐ ɯıʞ sıɹɥɔ
So there is intelligent life in the Universe, then we could stop pretending we're it :)
