how much time it takes to have jira running and setted up? - Sebastian Wain
Sebastian, I use the Jira Enterprise where I had to set it up in my own instance of Tomcat. It took several hours to install and configure it. So it varies on your skills and how you want to deploy Jira as it has many options. - imabonehead

"Better Place (formerly Project Better Place) has scored a coup in the California Bay Area. The electric vehicle startup has struck a deal with the region, including the cities of San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland, to set up a $1 billion charging network for electric cars, with car availability beginning in 2012." - imabonehead via Bookmarklet

Surprisingly, 38% of all TechCrunch RSS readers do so in Outlook, higher than any other feed reader. - Louis Gray
Outlook... *shivers* - Aram Zucker-Scharff
great statistics - but netvibes and bloglines are so bad in numbers. - Erhan Erdogan
That is because Outlook is soo easy - it brings all of your inbound comms into 1 place. - Angus Logan
@Angus, totally agree. While I don't use the native RSS functionality in Outlook I do use the Attensa Outlook Plugin so that everything is in one place (for business at least). At home I do the same thing with Thunderbird. Well, not exactly the same since Attensa doesn't have a Thunderbird plugin. - Kenton
Apparently a lot of people read feeds from work and while there, they are forced to use Outlook. May they become enlightened and discover Google Reader... - Glenn Batuyong

ISTM they should get out of the paper business--not the new business. - shelisrael1
@shelisrael1 Exactly. Why is it newspapers think they're in the "paper" business and not in the "news" business? Logic would say they had a 50/50 chance of choosing either word... but they all seem to believe they are in the business of selling "paper" and not "news." - Carlos Granier-Phelps

I was thinking of this a few days ago. Having a stake in these companies gives us say. No one likes government intervention in the marketplace but the circumstance demand it. They have shown no will to adapt in even the most dire situations. The CEOs of these companies need oversight if we bail them out. Fine let's talk about unions but lets also talk about the jets and the CEO salaries, lavish expenses, parties and the other things mentioned in this post. Everything's on the table, not just this selective just this selective union bashing. Man, I agree with this piece. - Rolf Schewe
404 - mojay
@ Rolf: I agree. Somehow the fact that we have been blaming unions since Ronald Reagan seems to have become a knee-jerk reaction. The UAW negotiated away all their pension rights and created a union fund to take over the obligations. This new contract gets overlooked a lot. My point being that the white collars still have their jets but the guy who actually does the work has to be the one who gives up years of promises. People forget that before unions ideas such as "the fourty-hour week" and "the weekend" were never heard of. We don't need to make ourselves more like a third-world country. This is a race to the bottom and the guys who make millions are loving it. - Phil Boiarski
Phil Boiarski: I say let's look at everything. Not just bash the unions or the CEOs. No one is totally innocent here. The system has to be revamped top to bottom. CEO and worker pay, union contracts, Congress has to take care of health care to take the burden of these companies and these car companies will have to trim a lot of fat and focus on the future. A lot of top management may have to go. That old stubborn corrupted mindset and irresponsible leadership must be purged to assure a new direction. - Rolf Schewe
Sorry about the 404 -- fixed. - Dave Winer
Rolf, No argument that everything needs a look. My point is that Union bashing has been going on for years as the "solution" to our competitive problem. Not design choices, stubborn refusal to raise mpg, enormous bonuses and perks, etc. The Unions gave and gave again. The CEO's fly private jets and point fingers at others. Use this as an opportunity to remake the way we think about cars. - Phil Boiarski
The sad fact is that you'll get nothing for your gov't money. If you can show me a single success of gov't intervention/ownership, I can show you 100 utter and complete failures (Fannie/Freddie/HUD/etc). What's worse, the gov't doesn't even have any money anyway. You're simply choosing to postpone pain today (which isn't close to as bad as you predict) with even more pain tomorrow (when all those IOU's come due and no country is crazy enough to continue lending to us). - Carter Rabasa
"US initiative to increase gas mileage" ... The initiative a)didn't go far enough and b)was given a loophole to drive SUVs through - a loophole created by Detroit's lobbyists. - Steven Vore
Latest news is the Dems are demanding a restructuring plan before giving another penny. Would have been interesting if anyone thought of that when they were handing out checks to AIG and the biggest banks. - Phil Boiarski
Okay, I freely admit I'm totally naive and coming out of left field here, but why can't Congress simply broker a loan between the oil companies (the only entity that actually *has* money right now) and the automakers? They could charge a reasonable brokerage fee and put some of that money back for once. Seems like everybody wins. - Ⓒⓗⓡⓘⓢ ᴷᴵᴹ ᴬ
The oil companies wouldn't want to do it -- that's the only problem. Most of them aren't even American companies. The only way the US govt could compel them to do it is to nationalize them. I hope that doesn't happen, but I suppose it could. If it happened the stock market would probably evaporate. The Dow would go down to $0. - Dave Winer
It might do that anyway. - Phil Boiarski
Well if the stock market goes to $0 all of a sudden anything's possible! Seesmic could buy Google! - Dave Winer
Come on, that's crazy talk. The Dow definitely won't go below 1600. - Chris White
