@JorduSpeaks If insurance/care is truly universal, then the terms should be synonymous. However, since insurance doesn't cover everything...
@kevinsparakeet I'm not sure I actually grasp the difference. How can healthcare be universal is not everyone has some coverage?
@JorduSpeaks Insurance sometimes hinders access to healthcare, and sometimes allows for it. But how do you have one without t'other?
@JorduSpeaks Also, how does lack of healthcare not violate human liberty by preventing people from "doing stuff" and also from living?
@JorduSpeaks Many poor countries want nukes for that very reason. Technically, not having nukes does put them at a distinct disadvantage.
@kevinsparakeet I certainly don't think it is as important as food, education, etc. Probably there should be a second-tier term...
@JorduSpeaks So would you consider healthcare a fundamental human right? Its absence causes millions of dead every year at home and abroad
@kevinsparakeet If it exists I haven't heard it. Weird, because such a term would be useful. People get hung up by "basic human rights."
@kevinsparakeet The basic necessities of life change over time, and as we become more dependent on tech. Broadband will be more important.
@kevinsparakeet These days it ehn't enough to just survive. Human rights now also include things you need for equality of opportunity
@kevinsparakeet ...for things needed for equality of opportunity in addition to just survival. "Secondary human rights" if you will.
@kevinsparakeet I think their def. of a human right is anything required for true equality between all countries and people.
@JDspeeder1 Fair enough. Still, there's something cathartic in sucking at something as hard as I suck at MMA.
@kevinsparakeet Like, will there ever be equality of opportunities while I can access Wikipedia and some Somali kid can't?
Skipped MMA class today to hurry home and install Snow Leopard. I think my doing that means I am no longer qualified to participate in MMA.
Student essay on why drunk driving is bad because, like, he totally got his license suspended for driving drunk and that was such a drag.
@kevinsparakeet I'm here for the whole "Get thee (Mary) to a nunnery" thing.
In Mobile. Huzzah. I don't have anyone's phone number anymore, but you might have mine.
Grading an essay about the vaccination "controversy." Hooray.
@kevinsparakeet Did you get the vaccine through the school you teach at, or what?
@rodanoS I download their paper as a text file, then write comments on the paper and e-mail it back to them. I don't speak to them directly.
Tutored a Japanese student today. She was from Osaka, so we discussed that city and UNIQLO and okonomiyaki. Good times.
LSAT scores are in, and I got a pretty good one, so that's something.
@JorduSpeaks Pretty sure it does. To my credit, I did raise some objections to his point, but only to make his point more developed.
Just responded to an online tutoring essay titled "I STAND FIRM ON THE USE OF CELL PHONES IN THEATER" [sic]. I really hate this job.
Just responded to an online tutoring essay in favor of cell phone use in theaters. And I had to help him make his essay more convincing.
@JorduSpeaks I didn,t even know veins could collapse. So did they just not take your blood?
Donated blood. Blood lady didn't put the needle in far enough so blood spurted everywhere. My second favorite pair of pants were a casualty.
Reading a paper feat. woman's graphic descriptions of being beaten by her husband would be hard enough, but essay is also totally unreadable
@nosh276 Happy belated birthday then. What'd you guys do?
