FTA has also donated thousands of tickets to charities, underprivileged children and theater students, as well as more than $1.5 million in scholarships to theater students in the State of Florida. Most recently FTA has invested in a community spaces downtown called The Abbey and The Mezz, donating its use to charities and local arts groups, resulting in these groups raising more than $2 million for their respective organizations. EIGHTY PERCENT OF ALL PROCEEDS GENERATED BY FTA STAYED WITHIN AND HELPED THE ORLANDO COMMUNITY.

many venues have filled up - Blue, Brown, Yellow, Pink, and Green are forcing two acts to the wait list.
“We just added three new venues, for next year’s Fringe,” he said. One will be at Theatre Downtown, at 2113 N. Orange Ave. That’s just a few blocks away from Loch Haven Park, since Theatre Downtown is at the corner of Orange Avenue and Princeton Avenue. Fringe will also be adding shows at The Venue. Located at 511 Virginia Drive., this is a new performing arts center in an 85-seat theater, founded by singer/comedian and performer Blue Starr, and the new home for her BabyBlueStar Productions. Blue had one of the sellout shows last May at Fringe, “Blue & Todd: Too Drunk To Fringe,” a musical/comedy revue done in collaboration with artist Todd Kimbro. Both of these new venues, Wallace said, are easy to walk to from Loch Haven Park. Fringe is also closing down its Red Venue, which is one of two outdoor venues, this one in the courtyard right behind the Lowndes Shakespeare Center. The other outdoor venue is the stage in the Beer Tent on the grounds of Loch Haven Park in-between Lowndes and

Earlier this week, 1.5 million people filled the streets of Berlin, Germany to watch a several-day performance by France's Royal de Luxe street theatre company titled "The Berlin Reunion". Part of the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Reunion show featured two massive marionettes, the Big Giant, a deep-sea diver, and his niece, the Little Giantess. The storyline of the performance has the two separated by a wall, thrown up by "land and sea monsters". The Big Giant has just returned from a long and difficult - but successful - expedition to destroy the wall, and now the two are walking the streets of Berlin, seeking each other after many years apart. I'll let the photos below tell the rest of the story.

and we have such a momentum going, it's time to grow the festival," said George Wallace, the Fringe's general manager. This year more than 29,000 tickets were distributed. The new venues are within walking distance of the Fringe's home base of Loch Haven Park. Theatre Downtown, at the corner of Princeton Street and Orange Avenue, is about a half-mile away; The Venue, a new hall at 511 Virginia Drive, is slightly less than a mile from the park. The additional theaters mean producer Michael Marinaccio can schedule 90 shows at next year's 13-day festival — up from 80 this year. The Fringe will move its headquarters to the Ivanhoe Village Main Street office, and that organization will sponsor the Theatre Downtown venue.

When seven Central Florida counties were factored in, the study showed that the arts contribute $264 million annually to the economies of Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake, Volusia, Brevard and Polk counties. Conducted by Americans for the Arts, aWashington, D.C.-based national advocacy group, the study did not measure ticket sales or entry fees, but tallied other spending created by cultural organizations — everything from the groups' rents and payrolls to patrons' expenditures on transportation and baby sitters.

Fringe with no beer tent. The @mnfringe volunteers agree its a bad state of affairs...
All of the large arts organizations in our area have summer camps. The Orlando Repertory Theatre alone has over 50 summer camp offering for students. The Orange County Regional History Center brings history alive with their artistic process. Students – ranging from 5 years of age through middle school – learn about ancient Egypt through maps, mummification and the painting of hieroglyphs. The Orlando Shakespeare Theater is teaching Shakespeare, make-up, history and costuming through an innovative “Zombie Shakespeare” camp. Crealdé, a local visual art center, has a finely tuned model. Each students enrolled moves through drawing, painting, sculpture and photography. I don’t know about you, but when I was a kid, I had none of these options!
