"I love love classic French cigarette brand Gitanes‘ vintage ads. The modern (now considered retro-modern) designs and bright, bold colors are just lovely. And despite the eye-catching designs, the ads are very subtle – there are no cigarette health facts or hard-sell headlines. Just simple, beautiful designs featuring a gypsy lady. Here are some examples:"

"Some of the new features that have been added to Open Office 3.1 are antialiased drawings to smooth the edges of graphics, replying to notes, improved grammar checking, hyperlink management and sorting, control of slideshow media, macro support for Open Office Base, relative database paths, better internationalization for Hebrew and Arabic plus performance improvements (read our Speed up Open Office article for even more tips on how to improve the speed and performance)."

Nice, I use this at home a lot but do run into some problems porting it over to Word regarding footnotes, hope thats fixed in this version

I don't know about you guys, but I like Office 2007 UI. I find it to be very easy to navigate and use. OpenOffice feels like MS Office's ugly brother, but I am sure it will get better in time.

please tell me when am I getting the ribbon UI?
- Lakshman Prasad
I'm with Artem above. MSO2K7 FTW. MS is miles ahead of OO.o in terms of UI. It's worth paying for IMO.
- LANjackal
O2K7's ribbon UI is really, really confusing for people who've grown up with 2k3 and prior. I can understand that for many tasks it can be faster over time, but I see people all over my school and various offices who bumble through the menus every single time even after 2 years of use. That + .docx etc. in environments where you can't install the compatibility pack = angry users
- mjc
did they add the view/outline with complete features? Is the only reason I still use Word....I am ready to switch if they did
- bonuck (e gli associati?)
thanks for the hint. Time for another huge download, I assume
- Thorsten Matzner
Thorsten, I guess. I remember I had to download the whole thing last time they released any update. :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
I've sworn off menus thanks to the ribbon in MS Office 2007. It's so much easier to find and remember where functionality is than in 2K3, it's not even funny.
- Chieze Okoye
Cool! This means that the Mac port NeoOffice is going to get even better! It has worked well for me since last August, and has never crashed or caused anyone using MS Office to see any weird formatting from my end. UI-wise, iWork is just splendid though, and I'm going to ante up for the full paid version rather than the 1 month trial one of these days.
- Siddharth Deb
Love OO. Just want them to have a version of publisher.
- Jen (SquirrelGirl)
I love Open Office...Well open source-period. But those guys have allowed me to be a professional without having to rely upon MS. Thanks for letting us know about this, I plan to head over and download mine this week!

Official White House photos are now officially in the public domain, thanks to a licensing change made quietly over the weekend by the Obama administration and the photo-sharing site Flickr. The White House began posting striking photos of President Barack Obama from its official photographer Pete Souza to the Web 2.0 site in early May. FF2Disqus has re-emerged and is in private beta. Just leave a comment here if you'd like to participate. (*UPDATE:* please go to http://friendfeed.com/rooms... for more information)
It works, provided you have Disqus enabled on your Tumblr blog and that the link in FF points that back to your Tumblr entry. Look at Fred Wilson's Tumblr entries on FF as an example: http://friendfeed.com/e...
- Carter ♥ HTML5
I see you are only syncing one way at the moment so comments made on tumblr items in friendfeed should show up on the disqus comments on the tumblr blog? Still not doing that for me at the moment though.
- Boris Gordon
@cubanlinks I'd like an invite to FF2Disqus. Thanks ;-)
- Czar
Is the mulitple post item fixed? FF has been a mess because of this service.
- Anika
@Anika, the short answer is "I believe so". It was a caching issue outside of my control. The more important point is that comments are no longer pulled into FF. That "feature" just isn't worth the mess it makes, even without dupes.
- Carter ♥ HTML5
This is another welcome Disqus app, and I would like to try the private beta version. I already use Disqus to integrate Facebook Connect with my Blogspot blog (manofmanywords.blogspot.com) and this would be the perfect addition.
- Will Conley
@mersenne @Rutger @Thomas @Noah Invited!
- Carter ♥ HTML5
@Noah, check-out the FF room I invited you to. It'll have the link to the hosted application.
- Carter ♥ HTML5
Carter, does it mean that what I set previously needs to be re-set? Can I get an invite? Thanks
- Flavio
@flapic, yeah I wiped all users due to the glitches the app was having. plus, I no longer need your FF remote key, so that was nice to erase (I hate storing credentials). anyway, you're invited!
- Carter ♥ HTML5
wait, why is it private beta now again, since it was open some days ago? pls let me in again to sync my friendfeed/disqus commets. may i have an invite pls?
- natadd
@natadd there were a few kinks that caused some issues. I wanted to make sure that a) I knew who was using the service b) people knew it was a beta and c) people had a place to leave comments and feedback. You've been invited!
- Carter ♥ HTML5
thanks for the invite, but where/how should I get it? Email? twitter?
- natadd
I sent you an invite to a private FF room.
- Carter ♥ HTML5
okay, thanks, but I didn't get an invite yet. how should i receive it? twitter? email?
- natadd
You should get an email. There should also be a link in the upper-left of FF that indicates that you have requests waiting for you. I'll try and invite you again.
- Carter ♥ HTML5
I'd love to participate. Thanks for your work on this!
- Brent Evans
@Tobias. I don't see your information in my database. If you "turn-off" FF2D, it deletes your record, so maybe that's what happened? Anyway, feel free to sign-up again. @Noah, I just looked at your feed and it seems like comments are syncing fine. Any more information I can look at?
- Carter ♥ HTML5
I'd like to have a play with this, it's something that's I've wanted for a while.
- Daniel W. Crompton
Daniel/everyone: If you'd like to try FF2Disqus check-out our FF room: http://friendfeed.com/rooms.... If you have any questions or comments, please post or comment in that room. Thanks!
- Carter ♥ HTML5
I'm definitely interested in this integration. Please include.
- Kenley Neufeld
me too. like swurl does. collapsing feature (maybe even a one-click option for all above the page?) would be great!
- Gaby K. Slezák
It would be great to see the pictures and quotes ...
- Jean-Charles
yes, preview for tumblr! also for google reader share... or why not for everything? I mean each update is fetched completely right? So add a Preview button that let you see the full fetched content! :)
