"Blovel Spot is a resource for writing and reading blog novels. While the quality of the novels is very variable, there are some gems in there."

Persistence is far more important than talent or native ability. Showing up, day after day, even though there might be rejections or bad reviews or really crappy writing (I know what I should do, but I can’t seem to actually accomplish it), keeping focus on whatever the next task at hand is, shutting everything else out. Trying again, and again, and again.

Has anybody on OS ever tried to write a "novel" in blog form? If so I would really love to hear what you have to say about it. Did you write several sections ahead and then post them one at a time or did you write the whole story post by post?

First drafts sometimes just don't make for great reading to anyone but the writer. If you write really fast, the first draft is itself a sort of edited version; maybe certain areas (or in my case, all areas) need embellishment. I don't waste a lot of time on analagy and description on a first draft unless it's so clear that the words pour. So my first drafts end up seeming a little... drafty. Full of holes. Emotionless. It's nearly always raw dialogue and action, just 'cause I want to know what's going to happen next.

A powerful image that came to my mind when I was trying to think about the process that we, as bloggers, go through when starting a blog. People are just surfing the web, reading headlines on an RSS reader and here you are, trying to catch their attention. Your promise to them is that you will become their leader or mentor in an area where they have no experience or are not able to learn by themselves. But they all want something for sure: a person to guide them.
