The timing assembly is a one-off too, along with the bell housing and clutch assembly, which runs Aermacchi clutch plates. The transmission housing is an old BMW 3-speeder, which Dave managed to fill with a BMW R75 four-speed gear set; the shaft drive is adapted from a Yamaha Virago. New LED tattoos from the University of Pennsylvania could make the Illustrated Man real (minus the creepy stories, of course). Researchers there are developing silicon-and-silk implantable devices which sit under the skin like a tattoo. "Are members from the documentary branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences being paid to short list some films over others? That's what it sounds like director James Toback was alluding to when he spoke to the New York Times recently about how his buzzed-about documentary, Tyson, was left off the Academy's short list along with several other notable documentaries from the past year. Toback told the Times that at some point during the selection process he experienced something he puts "fully in the category of extortion", adding that he did not go along with it. Speaking on behalf of the documentary branch -- which Toback refers to as "some tiny, dirty covert weirdly protective group" -- chairman (and filmmaker) Rob Epstein said, "I have no idea. Located in the Seattle area, this arched timber roof house by architecture firm Schuchart/Dow is characterized by its close connection to the outdoors and an indoor openness that enhances the already-spacious 3,000-sq.-ft. design. Dubbed the Party Shack, this glass, concrete and wood house has an eclectic feel that combines nature and modern architecture into a wonderful, unusual home. A large two-storey space houses the kitchen and main living areas which open onto a vast covered patio outside. The facade is clad in metal, with the vast arched roof above. Inside, this striking double-height ceiling becomes an archway of heavy timber which extends outside to shelter the outdoor deck area, creating a sense of continuity between inside and out. A wooden ramp takes you upstairs to the second-storey loft overlooking the living space below.
