"Homemade croissants - the sort of treat I never would have envisioned making in my kitchen a few years ago but now I can say I've done it!! And oddly, now that I've made them, I find myself wondering why I didn't do it sooner. These croissants are perfection - buttery, flaky, just a bit crisp on the outside but yielding to a wonderfully soft interior."

I'm lazy, too. Plus the ones in the can are pretty good.

My aunt one year for Christmas sent me some from Williams Sonoma that were frozen. You took them out and let them proof overnight. They were awesome. And expensive. Oh well.

But when you talk with friends or family about this, the oft quoted response is “I’ve got nothing to hide” or “I’m not special.” Of course, you may not be special now, but who knows what might be considered “special” in the future? It doesn’t take much to accidentally stumble across something you shouldn’t on the web, as Appelbaum says “it’s very easy to know someone who knows someone who’s on some government’s list.” Around the web, log files are stored with ISPs and cloud services that don’t have an expiry date. It’s easy for governments to cherry pick information that’s been collated through no fault of your own, and construct a story that fits their interest. Annotations: Appelbaum warns, “every log file stored around the world will tell a story about you. It may not be the truth, but it will be made up of facts.” an astonishing 250,000 requests for metadata on individuals were filed by the Australian government last year Appelbaum displayed slides of torproject.org blocked in...

I'm loving this one so much more than the other two, and I really do like the other two.
- Katy S
I was kind of disappointed by the second. I'm liking this one as much as the first.
- LB shining
I liked the second one, but I think that's primarily because I liked how it riffed off of The Wendigo by Algernon Blackwood. But, if it weren't for that, I don't know if I would have liked it as well.
- Katy S
Oh, it's a classic! It's a great short story. I love Blackwood, though. He's considered a master of the "weird tale," but he's seriously underrated as a nature writer. I posted a line from one of his books here http://ff.im/Nfg7K

Though leader is no better than JS LeFanu, David C Cooper, pitlord, spencer, JDIF ... thought leader thinks way too much of himself ...
- Rene, Pro Button Pusher
Quite sad and pathetic. I am still friends with JS LeFanu -- even while I disagree with him. What I am finding with 'thought leader' is that he is the opposite extreme of JS, which is every bit as dangerous as he tried to assert JS' way of thinking is. *SMFH* Will be unfollowing as well.

It is interesting how calling one person an exceptionalist makes me an America hating bigot. Luckily, by resorting to ad-hominem and projecting his own hatred for non-Americans he only proves my point. Shame.
- Rene, Pro Button Pusher
If I am such an America hater why would I have be living and working here instead of moving my family to the old country? Why would be happy to pay taxes on my decent income without asking for a vote in return? Why would I be spending my income dollars on local businesses and why would I be supporting a grass roots movement to expose the oligarchy while at the some time donating time and supplies? Right ...

I have the option to go pretty much wherever I want and I chose to be in the USA, because I see the potential. Not necessarily for me, but for my kids. Unfortunately, even so-called progressives still harbor hate and resentment; envy is a nasty thing if it takes control of your ego. And some people's ego are incredibly inflated ... interesting.

- Prosey BUTTONS!
Thought leader completely lost plot and is unable to find the threads of his cohesion anymore. He needs to talk to someone about his serious ego issues. This is all play and BS on the internet, behavior like this in real life will be met with much harsher retaliations. Or it would be too late if he snaps ...

I'm glad someone's amused. The liberty he took with me in that last thread where you are concerned was the last straw...and because I had the "audacity" to tell him that commenting in a thread I posted is fine, but jeeeezus, keep the fucking commentary to the topic of the article, and put the hard-on about refuting Ron Paul's racism or lack thereof the fuck away. *SMH*

*laughing* I'm not ate the hell up over it. Block option is good for that. My curiosity admittedly does get the better of me, though. Nobody needs to "tell us" what he says, though. That much is easy enough to know...iff'n ya think about it. I could tell you his last statement in the thread that caused me to block him -- which I believe was his intention.

You guys do get some serious kudos from me, though. I used to do the same dance with Sean way back in the day and I have never, EVER seen him just lose the plot like he did in that particular thread. He used to chase us Jews around FriendFeed like a madman and he NEVER once lost composure. He was so good at his game that we used to think he might be a bot or a non-person made up of a bunch of people posting under the same account. Crazy.

We just got lucky to stumble upon his breaking point, because everyone has one. Ron Paul apparently is it.
- Rene, Pro Button Pusher
Ron Paul...and, evidently, Glenn Greenwald. *chuckling*
- Prosey BUTTONS!
I'm not really surprised, honestly. He's always been very, very anti-Israel and pro-Islamic-states. He's backing Ron Paul simply because Ron Paul opposes an U.S. intervention with Iran. He has directly claimed to me that his position is because he holds Israel to a higher standard than its neighbors but over the long term, that motive simply doesn't satisfy. But I know his brinkmanship...

- Akiva
I don't mind a disagreeable confrontation, if it's *fair*. When a point of hostility occurs, I simply go the block option. I don't like doing that either, but it's the better alternative for everyone involved. This is the first time I've seen anyone have such a tantrum over being blocked...to the point that he's behaving the way he is now, commenting to me directly in others' threads,...

And yeah, I stopped taking him seriously long ago when I realized that he wasn't listening and just shouting amongst the reeds. Plus the fact that he called me an intellectual lightweight. Former thought leader does seem to have lost the plot, yes, by hanging on tooth and nail to Ron Paul and Glenn Greenwald instead of just saying he was wrong and move on, which would have been the right thing to do. Instead he felt he had to resort to namecalling and doubling down on very questionnable viewpoints. Lost all the respect I had for him in a matter of minutes. A one track mind is a horrible thing if you want to be as awesome as you say you are.

Lenovo's ThinkPad T430u Ultrabook targets the business set with discrete graphics and 1TB in storage, arrives in Q3 for $849 -- Engadget - http://www.engadget.com/2012...
"While plenty of companies will spend CES showing off their first Ultrabooks, Lenovo is already going back for seconds. The outfit just announced the ThinkPad T430u, a more business-focused follow-up to the IdeaPad U300s we reviewed back in November. More than anything, though, what has us intrigued is that it packs optional NVIDIA graphics, making this the first so-called Ultrabook we've seen with a dedicated GPU. Add in a 14-inch (1366 x 768) display, up to 1TB of hard drive storage and a modest six hours of rated battery life, and it sounds more like a full-fledged laptop than an Ultrabook. Semantics aside, with a starting price of $849 this could be a tempting deal for businesses looking to outfit their employees with something portable, well-performing and inexpensive. Not to mention, it might just be a worthy competitor to the HP Folio, our favorite business-centric Ultrabook at the moment. Just make sure IT can wait patiently -- the T430u isn't slated to go on sale until Q3 of this year."

"A great grilled cheese sandwich is a seriously seductive creature. Warm, tangy and gooey, it should be absolutely irresistible. But here’s the problem: Even ordinary grilled cheese sandwiches, the kind made with white bread and Velveeta, are pretty appealing. Which means that too many people are willing to settle for good enough."

I make a mean grilled cheese! Definitely go with grated, not sliced, cheese. And butter the bread not the pan! I like the idea of adding allium; I usually put in sunflower seeds, and/or tomato slices

I should try grating some onion into the next one I make. I like adding some veggies: sweet bell peppers, spinach, alfalfa sprouts, etc. Basically whatever I happen to have on hand. And I always add mustard.

I've never added mustard. Huh. Need to try that now.

"In the wake of a bottom-feeder finish in the Iowa GOP caucuses, Michele Bachmann ended a presidential bid Wednesday that once held so much promise in this state. “Last night, the people of Iowa spoke with a very clear voice, and so I have decided to stand aside,” she said at a morning news conference. Bachmann called on Republicans to unify behind the ultimate nominee, but did not say whom she would support. It was only five months ago, in August, that Bachmann, an Iowa native, captured the Ames Straw Poll, a test of a candidate’s strength among influential conservatives in the state and a victory that appeared to establish her as a force to be reckoned with."
