"I'm not so worried about the Netflix player since now I have that via my Xbox 360. :-) But for the non-gaming world, I think adding Netflix to a Blu-ray player shouldn't be a reason to charge much more." - Bob Caswell

"Throughout the comments, Arrington seems to justify his post by referring back to the Wikipedia fiasco he faced earlier with said MS employee. I think that's where his point might have a chance of being valid. As for the current situation though (leaving aside the separate first situation), I'm still trying to see how the discussion ties back to Microsoft. I mean, there's no discussion of a Microsoft product or strategic move, etc. It may not be about quilting (to change Scoble's mind), but it may as well be for as little as it has to do with MS. It's just some guy's opinion on a blog's tone during these economic conditions." - Bob Caswell

So "position of neutrality" is the new reason for no sale? Funny, last I heard it was "not enough money." The cynic in me wants to point out my opinion that "position of neutrality" probably isn't as much of a concern to Jay Adelson and crew at a certain price point. - Bob Caswell via FriendFeed MT Plugin

"I hadn't thought of it in the context of job search... That could be interesting. As for spam, I actually don't think I got any. Every email I got was pretty specific and didn't seem to have any other purpose other than showing real interest in the bed I was selling. But after brief interaction, I thought of it as more an issue of Craigslist users just being flaky." - Bob Caswell

"It is indeed a time vs. money question. Also, I should mention that I don't think eBay is convenient at all. Not only does it cost more, but it still has a high probability of sucking my time away. I guess the main point is that I've realized the difference in savings between Amazon and whatever alternative to Amazon is rarely enough to justify the extra time wasted (for me)." - Bob Caswell

"But it wouldn't be a complete waste of money... The point is, if an HD DVD player is the same quality (if not better) and same price as compared to upconverting regulard DVD players, then why not spring for the HD and enjoy that extra bonus with the movies that are out in that format?" - Bob Caswell

No "may" about it - Brian Sullivan
"Zakaria worries that one day historians will write about how the United States globalized the world, but forgot to globalize itself." - Dave Winer
it could be a "may" if it were written a few years ago... otherwise.... - Jeremy Toeman
It's not such a terrible thing. It's a world economy. What we had going here couldn't last forever. Now we just have to stop doing things that disadvantage us, and we'll do okay. We need to get to work on our education system, health care, infrastructure, and stop borrowing all that money for things that don't create value -- like the war in Iraq. - Dave Winer
You know if McCain started talking like that he might win the election. The thing that's scary is that he doesn't seem to understand where we fit in. Our army isn't going to convince a lot of our adversaries and all of his bluster is going in the wrong direction. - Dave Winer
And still, people are overlooking South America. China and Russia are slowly building alliances with other countries, bypassing the United States... - Mona N.
BTW, I think it's very cool that the Chinese are opening plants in the US. I'd like to dig into that and find out why it was economic for them to do that. Maybe they just did it for PR purposes. It's hard to imagine that our labor costs less than theirs. - Dave Winer
Only a question of time... - Ryo
For those who follow the recent goings-on in the Anglican Communion, it's intersting to note that much of the debate is North-South centered, with some concluding that the North is moving toward a phase of Laodicean irrelevance. - Ontario Emperor
In *only* 30 yrs. China has been steadily moving from the centralized planning of socialism to free markets and capitalism....Meanwhile the U.S. has been moving in the opposite direction...U.S. citizens would be wise to go back to their roots, because the China horse has left the barn. - Chris Rossini
thank god .... but zakaria is way too pc for me, and consequently cannot get below the surface and become truly leading edge in his understanding. - Gregory Lent
There is obviously a lot for the US to be concerned about and I don't think it's necessary for the US to be the sole superpower. It's probably better for us if we're not bc obviously we aren't very good at it. That said, I have some real concerns about what we're seeing from China and what's really going on. If I had a lot of money, I would probably spent more investing in India than China. Not a slam against the people of China, of course. Just concerns about the government, the infrastructure and the tremendous challenge of scale they have before them. - Ray Grieselhuber
This makes the same amount of sense it did when Leo Laporte proposed this idea during the opening ceremony - that is none at all. - Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
Superpower. The modern day empire. China has a lot more experience at Imperialism. - Aaron Brazell
Technically ... until China floats it's currency, we're subsidizing them. Free trade at some point needs to be fair free trade. - Charlie Anzman

boy 'yall thinks this is a good thing? I'm just glad to be here and not there. if the rest of the world wants to bend over for tyranny, cheap labor and unrestricted industrialization... then let them destroy their land. ...and they can hate me all they want. ah yes the joys of socialism that is not sustainable, so now they have to be a bunch of predators. Agreed with Dave Winer. This doesn't mean some post-apocalyptic future for America; just less American dominance in various areas. - Brent Newhall
you can have your Chinese mob glut of human meat and I will take America and it's breadbasket of food, plentiful natural gas and running on Chevy Volts in a few years. Wind and Solar going faster then any other country. America is BACK! I just hope I can hold all of you to live outside of America's borders in a few years. Socialism and Dictatorships are flip sides of a coin. America might hit a few bumps down the road to energy independence, but I will take this road over any other. - ⓃⓄⒶⒽ ⒹⒶⓋⒾⒹ ⓈⒾⓂⓄⓃ

"Hi Brady, good to hear from you. You're canceling experiences sound much nicer than mine. Even when I was able to get straight to a person, it was rarely the right person (the "retention" department has to help, apparently). Anyway, about the AMEX Platinum card... haven't tried it, but I do have an AMEX Hilton card, which has no annual fee. I run my whole life through the thing and get a few free nights a year at whatever Hilton I want. For no annual fee I can't complain." - Bob Caswell
