"Carry over 450 comics in your pocket with the Comics iPhone App (free). The app comes with 70 free comics and uses the new, in-app purchasing system so you can browse and buy hundreds of comics from nearly two dozen publishers, including Marvel, for $2 each. Once you’ve selected a comic to read, the panel views flow naturally, simulating how your eye would move across the page. You can also zoom in on any image, or rotate to landscape mode automatically to get the best fit for each panel. Download it free from iTunes, or check out this Macworld article for more info."

After discussion with Graphic Designer at work, we have decided there needs to be a path that includes Photoshop and Illustrator but not InDesign, with the end result being web designers.

Interesting. Before the advent of huge radio networks and big record labels, there were much more regional sounds in the US, regional stars, and regional hits. I'm talking in the '30s and such.

"EyeTV DTT Deluxe is almost impossibly tiny. Barely larger than a USB connector, it is the very smallest full-featured DVB-T stick available anywhere. EyeTV DTT Deluxe delivers powerful digital TV (DTT or Freeview) reception, cutting-edge technology, clean design, and extreme portability in one diminutive device."

"The riot of color that erupts in forests every autumn looks different depending on which side of the ocean you're on. While the fall foliage in North America and East Asia takes on a fiery red hue, perplexingly, autumn leaves in Europe are mostly yellow in color. A team of researchers has a new idea as to why the autumnal colors differ between the continents, one that involved taking a step back 35 million years in time."

Gorgeous shot. The colors could also stem from the acidity of the soil. If you take the train from London to Edinburgh, it is startling to see how intensely lime-green the foliage is. I recall thinking, "so green and lifelike" as it had this surreal aspect to it.
- Fossil Huntress
One of the reasons that plant life in Scotland is so green is the amount of rain. The soil is almost always wet. I noticed the difference in leaf colors when I moved from Edinburgh to the States, but I'd just assumed it came down to different varieties of trees.

"So it turns out that the problem is not with the installer but rather with how the OS X 10.6 installer resets the permissions on /usr/local such that the git installer completes as though the installation was successful (because it was) even though the user account may not be able to access it."

@micahwittman what are you on about permissions change re: git

All I know is post-SL installation on my Macbook, typing git in Terminal resulted in an Unknown Command response. I reinstalled with the latest git-osx installer which changed nothing. The chmod tip did the trick I believe (mini-tip: you have to restart the Terminal.app session).
- Micah Wittman
@micahwittman I compiled git from source... no installer for me.

Hehe. I thought it felt more like "acquiring" than "buying" to me, because it will be such an important part of my life. I expect it to be with me much longer than most of my other possessions. My last bike has served me for over 13 years. Unfortunately, the gearing hub broke down recently. Since I don't think I can get back the exact same gearing hub, I decided it was time to retire it. I think this will be a worthy successor. Same brand, similar model actually. Just all "2009".

"Following its annual trend in partnerships with Fashion Designers through 2010, Evian has linked up with one of the most creative designers, known for his sense of fun and optimistic attitude – Paul Smith. The annual Evian designer bottle tradition began in 2008 with a limited edition bottle designed by Christian Lacroix, followed in 2009 with Jean Paul Gaultier. The new exclusive Evian bottle is designed with a festive theme in vibrant colors - with a nod to the famous Paul Smith stripes - which elegantly underlines the purity of the natural spring water from the French Alps. Miles away from the traditional holiday themes, Evian offers an experience of youth in a multi-colored bottle with five different caps to collect. The new Evian Paul Smith Limited Edition collection will be available pre-sale on www.ShopEvian.com beginning September 22, 2009, and available at fine dining establishments and gourmet retailers beginning in November 2009."

Actually, as far as I can tell, Like in FB does do something: it's basically an empty comment, so you get notified of new comments that occur after you Like it.
- Glen Campbell, B.A.
@Glen: it's true but what bothers me most is that unlike friendfeed, fb delivers a separate mail for every person that comments on that post. #lame

I would just like to go on record here and clearly state that, were I able to do what this lion is doing, I WOULD NOT! NO! NEVER! EVER! Thank you.

Yau'll are some sick _ucks. Let the King have a private moment for God's sake. Shame on you people. Can't yau'll see he's welcomed in the jungle. He went down south :)

And now I present you with Full of Win #2: Ffundercats - or alternately titled "How to shamelessly gather likes and comments by involving FriendFeed in your new webcomic" - Full Version - http://www.dailyhaggis.com/wp-cont...
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
HA! The superhero outfits are perfecto. I need to actually catch up on Ffundercats. I think the last one I heard was the one with Tina, actually. Which was fab, of course.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
OH YEAH! AWESOME! I look good in baby blue!
- Mark Wilson
Haggis, this is awesome :), but it's terribly difficult to read the font if your display is more than 100dpi: I had to blow it up to 400% in order to read it.
- mjc
Yikes! Might have been the .GIF compression as well.. Is everyone else having trouble reading? It definitely looks best at 100%/
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Hehe. That is a good chuckle. Keep it up. Though, having to click three times so I could get it large enough to read was annoying. Still, worth reading. :)
- Robert Miller
I know, I know.. I posted that way to make sure the original item had my copyright on it. The Full of Win room has links to the direct images. I'm seriously toying with the idea of getting a dedicated site for these tho.
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Thx Pete. I noticed I didn't put the symbol in on the last frame! (I also put #3 instead of #2.) Serves me right for doing all this on an empty stomach. :D
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Thank you for 'being kind' to my waistline as well... :P
- Johnny Worthington
Hahaha.. I based the hair partly on the "Carls Jr" pic you uploaded in Vegas, and combining that with Lion-O's hair. Hey, I could have made you Cheetara :D

"Midnight's Children is an epic book of magical realism about India's transition from British colonialism to independence. It was written by Salman Rushdie in 1981 and is considered an example of postcolonial literature. The story is expressed through various characters and is contexted by actual historical events as with historical fiction."

I'm going through two autobiographies of Julia Child. And a couple of cookbooks. Once I'm done with those I need comics. What else you reading?
- Melissa
This is the only one of his books I've read that I've really liked.
- Jennifer Dittrich
I'm getting back into fiction again, Mel. Research for the new project and something of a catalyst for the new story I'm about to start writing. Still in note taking/gathering stage. So, Ondaatje because of his mash up of poetry and prose, and Rushdie (and possible Marquez and Morrison) for their use of magical realism. I haven't been this excited to write in a long time. And because of the magazine it's been non-fiction for the last four years, so...there you go. :)
- Derrick
Interesting. I should step up my reading of (great) fiction too.
- Thomas Bøhm
I'm SO excited that you're writing again. Lots of creative work coming out you, sugar. LOVE IT :)
- Melissa
Oh, Derrick, you are actually *writing* fiction ? How cool. I would really like to get into the beta program on that one:) I´m not much help on language and writing per se, but I much admire those that have a handle on that, and am very interested in the process..
- Thomas Bøhm
Thomas, I studied writing in college before I went on to study art and film. It remains my first love.

I didn't know any universities offered classes in SLASH, Derrick.

In this tutorial we'll build a real life Cappuccino application, complete with models, views and controllers, key-value-observing, delegates, JSON, a Ruby on Rails backend and even (gasp!) Google Maps. The purpose of this application will be to add locations to a list, add geo-coordinates to that location and ultimately draw the route on a Google Map. I assume you've set up your development environment, and I also assume that you've either played around with Cappuccino or Cocoa before and I won't explain every little detail. Also, you'll need some images that you'll have to copy to your project's Resources folder.
