"Today we are launching version 2 of the FriendFeed API for beta testing. We focused on making the API simpler to use, and we added number of compelling new features." Documentation: http://friendfeed.com/api...

nice, good to see OAuth support, this will enable a larger 3rd party ecosphere around FriendFeed, I hope
- Jeroen De Miranda
After going through the documentation and playing around with some feeds, I love the fact that you can now see the subscriber lists of people who have their feeds set to private as long as you are subscribed to them and authenticate (mimicking the main site functionality). One thing that's absent is a discussion of Direct Messages. Do they show up in feeds if you authenticate? How do we find just direct messages?
- Mark Trapp
Mark: direct messages are accessed using the feed ID "filter/direct". Read more about feed IDs at http://friendfeed.com/api.... Also direct messages appear in the "home" feed.
- Benjamin Golub
Benjamin: ahhh, I see it now. I missed it when skimming that list over. Thanks!
- Mark Trapp
Can you post the wget version of the command line?
- Gabe
Gabe: wget --user=bgolub --password=passwd --post-file=MyPhoto.jpg http://friendfeed-api.com/v2... should work. In theory. Edit: nope. I'm not sure it's possible to do with wget.
- Mark Trapp
Gabe: wget doesn't support multipart forms as a design decision. If you post a file, FriendFeed returns a 404, and if you post data, the query is too long for wget to handle.
- Mark Trapp
Woowoo, bgolub's password is “passwd” ;-)
- Amit Patel
Amit: I wonder how many people tested that :)
- Benjamin Golub
Thanks to bgolub posting his password, I now have all of FriendFeed's secret documents about notorious users, useless metrics, Justin Timberlake's promoting FF on Oprah's show, hiring Colbert as a spokesperson, Ev Williams being just a “distraction”. TechCrunch is going to love this! ;)
- Amit Patel
Yes big big thanks to the whole team for all their hard work!!

"I believe that we will look back at this decade as the beginning of an economic revolution as important as the scientific revolution in 16th century and the industrial revolution in 18th century. We’re standing at the beginning of the entrepreneurial revolution." - http://steveblank.com/2010...
"The barriers to entrepreneurship are not just being removed. In each case they’re being replaced by innovations that are speeding up each step, some by a factor of ten. For example, Internet commerce startups the time needed to get the first product to market has been cut by a factor of ten, the dollars needed to get the first product to market cut by a factor of ten, the number of sources of initial capital for entrepreneurs has increased by a factor of ten, etc."
- Paul Buchheit
I certainly see in the web app world things move really fast. There are also some physical products like t-shirts, EyeFi, Square, FitBit where the web made it easy to customize/market/sell the product. However I don't have a good sense of how much change there's been for entrepreneurs working in other markets — beer, automobiles, plywood, packaged food, air conditioners, etc.
- Amit Patel
It is definitely a pleasant dream in which the country and the whole world suddenly behaves like Bay Area does. I have my doubts though. Happy Thanksgiving!

Beer has all kinds of new viral marketing strategies now. Automobiles: look at Local Motors for manufacturing, zipcar for auto transportation. The Information Age can affect existing industries as radically as the Industrial Age affected agriculture.

"Hacker culture often seems kind of irresponsible. That's why people proposing to destroy it use phrases like "adult supervision." That was the phrase they used at Yahoo. But there are worse things than seeming irresponsible. Losing, for example."

What I don't understand is why a profitable company is considered such a loser? I don't expect yahoo to disappear anytime soon. I question their past acquisitions more than anything.
- Dario Gomez
Good points made in the essay, but any description of an organization is by necessity an oversimplification. Would love to hear Glen C's take on this.
- Bruce Lewis
Ben. What ever happened to the goofy Yahoooooo commercials? ( at least they were better than the Ask.com commercials) barely.
- Ricardo Vidallon
Ironically, Yahoo! seems to be the *ONLY* company (compared to the likes of Google, Microsoft, Amazon) to host *public* (open) HackDays for developers in India!
- Space Cowboy
Can we come to this conclusion that a successful software company needs a talented hacker as its founder as in Google, Microsoft etc.? I think we cannot, I am lazy enough to think why.
- İnanç Gümüş
Good point Stephen. Though if you compare a lot of companies to google you will see the same if not worse trend. I'm not saying yahoo is great and secure in the space, but they are not dead yet.

It's kind of funny that I get friend requests from people who claim to be female and also claim to have gone to my high school considering I went to an all-boys Catholic school. - http://www.facebook.com/profile...
A team that 'performs poorly' has more oversight imposed on it, which causes distraction and makes it more likely to fail, which causes yet more oversight.. (Found on readwarp.com)

I have a friend who wants to leave videogame companies behind because she's only worked for crappy studios so far. I mean, her analysis of the odds isn't wrong, but even so it makes me sad.

Ahh, you have a friend going through the "maybe it's me" moment. Do you have some sort of good alternative you can set her up with? In these cases, showing a path forward can be more powerful than trying to convince her on principle.
- Clare Dibble
Come to think of it, Niniane, if your friend has only ever worked for startups, maybe she should try working for a bigger company.

Clare, a prestigious hedge fund manager saw my Buzz and contacted me about interviewing this female engineer. I passed it on, and she hasn't responded. I think she's behaving like a fool for passing this up.
- niniane
I'm sorry, Niniane. Most of the women who I have known who have gotten out of chemical engineering because it sucked seem somewhat happier teaching, being moms, etc, but not as much happier as they expected. There is no magic bullet.
- Clare Dibble
"she's only worked for crappy startups" ~ create your own startup
- Peter Renshaw
Maybe they're not fit for startups? There are really great mega corporations that they may enjoy, such as IBM, HP, and gOOgle. Yes even gOOgle is converging to the same league, just give it time.
- Kevin "X"
I made a wee bit of salsa. Recipe: http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes... Last time I made this, my brother-in-law couldn't find the salsa on the table (it was right next to the huge bowl of chips) because he had never had fresh salsa before.
I didn't make it as hot as I normally would b/c my dad wouldn't eat it and this is suppose to be for part of his birthday dinner/bbq. It's still tasty, though.
- Katy S
Also, this time I managed to make it without a repeat of last year's "burnt by jalapenos" incident. That was bad.

"If you're like a lot of programmers you may have considered one day joining a startup. But the prospect probably seems a bit mystifying. Most people know what the deal is with working for a big company. What's the deal with working for a startup? Work at a Startup is a special evening event designed to explain that. How can you tell whether a startup would be good to work for? How much salary and equity should you expect from startups at different stages? What's the work like at different types of startups? Are there any danger signs you should watch for? We'll answer all those questions. We'll begin with a presentation that explains in general what you need to know about working for a startup. Then we'll have series of rapid-fire presentations by YC-funded companies currently looking to hire programmers, explaining what it would be like to work for them specifically. Then we'll conclude with a reception at which you can talk one on one with the founders of any company that interested you."

I can tell you what that's like: God awful. I can't wait to get back to a large, publicly traded organization
- LANjackal
LANjackal: I'm sorry your current experience is so bad. We spend enough time at work that a bad experience can be pretty pervasive in quality of life. But I have to ask: what was so great about working for a large, publicly traded organization? Dsclaimer: I've worked for a big company, a small company, and currently work at a national lab. As far as I can tell, they all have their trade offs.
- Clare Dibble
"i get your point. but the entire board is there face to face right then and there. reconvening is hard between scheduled meetings. this is where its best to be pragmatic"
- Fred Wilson
Jealous! I have lovely trees but they aren't all mossy and fallen. I need to find a place that looks nearly identical to that for a photoshoot and Olympic National Park was all I could think of.
- joey
Joey... twin falls park just north of North Bend... very groomed easy hike with that and a river that is breath taking... oh and some gorgeous waterfalls.
- SAM
Are there areas where you can get off the trail and take some photos in really lush, mossy areas with fallen trees like the above?
- joey
reminds me of the ending of Harry and the Hendersons
- just ZONED
Joey, yes. In the summer, if you drive up the Mt. Loop Highway, it looks like that most of the way on the right side of the road.
- Rochelle
I've no idea what or where or who "Endor" is but this looks great - dense vegetation dripping with water, no people ... intense green
- Simon
Looks like this was a self-fulfilling prophecy. :)

For those at Google that is, not FB ~ lol Space Cowboy, I'm glad I can inspire people through my amazing bio
- The Real sofarsoShawn
@sofarsoShawn - on an unrelated note, my screen name (on FriendFeed) is based on my favourite cartoon character in that awesome movie - "Happy Feet". Now only if Friendfeed wouldn't bump this very irrelevant comment to the very top of all of Joshua's subscribers. :)
- Space Cowboy
WoW I even inspired the creators of Happy Feet, I"m just unstoppable!!! :)

Maybe the hardest part of leadership—be it leading a company, a family, a relationship or simply your own life—is that often times you don’t know and you still have to act. - http://fredwilson.vc/post...
