Our favorite DJ is back! This mix is for all of you that have lost hope in House Music & for my MIAMI Family, especially those of you that remember the legendary Warsaw Ballroom. Thank You David Padilla & George Nuñez for the love and inspiration, for all those years of carrying the torch, we owe you. Without you and the Warsaw we would not be who we are today. You inspired a great many of us and I don't know if you will ever know how much we thank you for that. There are times in which I forget where I came from, where I am going and most importantly why I am doing this. Every time I end up in this place my memories of the Warsaw Sound bring me back to reality. This mix is a reminder of that, a blend of the old and the new, all with a feeling and flavor of what I took home from this magnificent venue and legendary DJ. Mixed after another day of frustration and struggle. Javier Drada - For Those of You That Have Lost Hope in House Music - 12/10/09

In the beleaguered music industry’s latest bid to generate more money from its content, two top music labels will introduce Vevo, a Web site for music videos, on Tuesday. Vevo is co-owned by the Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and the Abu Dhabi Media Company. Vevo said Monday that it had signed up a third major music label, EMI Music, as a video provider, leaving only one holdout among the big four labels, Warner Music. Vevo said conversations with Warner were continuing.

At a glance, the far corner of the main floor of J&R Music looks familiar to anybody old enough to have scratched a record by accident. There are cardboard boxes filled with albums by the likes of Miles Davis and the Beach Boys that could be stacked in any musty attic in America. But this is no music morgue; it is more like a life-support unit for an entertainment medium that has managed to avoid extinction, despite numerous predictions to the contrary. The bins above the boxes hold new records — freshly pressed albums of classic rock as well as vinyl versions of the latest releases from hip-hop icons like 50 Cent and Diddy and new pop stars like Norah Jones and Lady Gaga.

Carlin Nicholson is itching to get his hands on the test pressing, or vinyl prototype, of his band's debut album. It's currently being mastered in Los Angeles and should arrive next week, he said. In a few months, the 12-track LP by Zeus, Nicholson's Toronto-based rock band, will be released in North America, Japan and Europe through indie music label Arts & Crafts. In keeping with the band's preferred medium, the vinyl LP will hit store shelves two weeks ahead of the compact disc. And the downloadable version of the album will be recorded from vinyl master, making the tracks sound more like a good old fashioned record. "Really, we've been looking forward to vinyl the whole time," Nicholson said by phone from a recording studio in the city's east end. "If it's about listening to music, then it's got to be about music that sounds as good as it can." Thanks to devoted fans of vinyl LPs in the indie music scene, and to DJs who have been spinning electronic music or hip hop on their...

The State Liquor Authority is finally shutting down a trendy but troubled Chelsea nightclub following allegations that an ex-con bouncer raped a drunken woman in one of its bathroom stalls. A three-member panel yesterday voted to close Club Duvet, a k a Club Climax, following charges that Hunter Dupree, 33, attacked a 23-year-old patron there on Oct. 25. The club should never have hired Dupree, who, having served more than three years in prison on a weapons charge, was not legally permitted to work as a bouncer, sources said. The club, at 45 W. 21st St., had been hit with numerous SLA violations but stayed open through a quirk in state law -- even after its liquor license was not renewed in November 2004.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Annex in SoHo will die before it gets old. After barely a year of operation, the Gotham outpost of the Cleveland-based Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced that it will fa-fa-fade away on Jan. 3. "The business just hasn't succeeded the way they initially hoped that it would," said one worker yesterday. "We did get a lot of people when the John Lennon exhibit opened in the summer, but since then, it's been very slow."

SAN FRANCISCO — In the most recent sign that Apple is looking at alternative ways for people to store and play their digital music, the company has agreed to buy Lala, a four-year-old start-up based in Palo Alto, Calif., a person with knowledge of the deal said Friday. Lala, unlike Apple’s iTunes, lets users play the music they own from the Web — or in tech industry parlance, from the cloud. If Apple introduces its own cloud-based streaming music service, it would let people skip having to download music they buy or synchronize their music collection between their computers and mobile devices. A person’s music library would always be available on the Web and accessible on a PC, smartphone or other Web-connected mobile device.

“There’s a large number of clubs,” Mr. Broughton says, “and lots of music as part of the fabric of everyday life.” Indeed, the musicians and singers of Dakar serve up a remarkably diverse sonic smorgasbord with a rhythm for any mood or occasion. Seeking something mellow? Try Pape et Cheikh, whose Senegalese-folk has won fans like Tracy Chapman, or the group Touré Kunda, whose song “Guerilla Africa” was reworked by Carlos Santana into “Africa Bamba” on his multimillion-selling “Supernatural” album. In an Afrofunk mood? Xalam will show why the Rolling Stones hired them to play on their “Undercover” album. Distinctive takes on hip-hop, salsa, reggae and jazz are also key parts of Dakar’s extensive repertory — to say nothing of the almighty mbalax, whose popularity carries on through young stars like Titi and Pape Diouf.

MOSCOW — A fire, apparently caused by an indoor pyrotechnical display, roared through a crowded nightclub in a central Russian city on Friday night, killing at least 100 people and wounding scores of others, the state news agency, RIA Novosti, reported. The authorities in the city, Perm, which is 700 miles northeast of Moscow, said many of the people died from smoke inhalation and a stampede that occurred after the display was detonated at 11:15 p.m., according to RIA Novosti.
