Dexy's Midnight Run - 5k from Bearwood to Birmingham - http://dexysmidnightrun.co.uk/
A run, at midnight (Sat night/Sunday morn). Starting from Bearwood, the location of Dexy's fave cafe, to Birmingham city centre — where hopefully we can get a Dexy's tribute band to play. We'll dress like Dexy's MK 1 — donkey jackets ans woolly hats. And we'll have a look for the young soul rebels on the way. - Jon Bounds

New library may cost three times more than expected - Mail - http://www.birminghammail.net/news...
It's disingenuous to add the cost of running the library for 60 years (£180 million) into the huge figure, but huge it certainly is. - Jon Bounds

Digbeth Consultation Questionnaire - http://digbeth.org/digbeth...
Digbeth is Good put an offline consultation online: "Atkins are conducting a Digbeth Consultation Questionnaire for Birmingham City Council and Advantage West Midlands, which they would like as many people as possible to respond to. Unfortunately it is not available online, so I’ve created a Google Form so you can complete it online if you like. I’ll forward the summary spreadsheet to Atkins, who are aware of what I’m doing (I spoke to representatives at the Digbeth Corridor Study Stakeholder Consultation Meeting). " - Jon Bounds

A scam carpark - Birmingham Shopper: - http://brumshopper.blogspot.com/2009...

Bolt-on fix for New Street 'eyesore' - http://www.birminghammail.net/news...
"BIRMINGHAM’S New Street Station will not be demolished when work on a £600 million makeover gets under way, it has emerged. In order to save money and keep disruption to passengers at a minimum, it has been decided to bolt on a stainless steel and glass façade to hide the existing 1960s grim concrete walls." Proof of what we've all suspected, it's cosmetic. - Jon Bounds

Hodge refuses to list Birmingham Central Library | News | Architects Journal - http://www.architectsjournal.co.uk/news...
A Twentieth Century Society added: ‘Minister Margaret Hodge has made no secret of her personal dislike for post-war buildings and has here failed to understand the basic premise of heritage protection in England. [We are] tremendously disappointed by the Minister’s decision not to follow the advice of her advisers and list Birmingham Central Library. EH advice on listing is not often overturned and this is a key case in that regard.’ - Jon Bounds

Birmingham Central Library “granted immunity from listing” | Birmingham Conservation Trust - http://www.birminghamconservat...
In offering the Government our expert advice, we examined all aspects of its architectural interest including: whether it fulfilled its brief; whether it was a particularly good example of a public library; how well it survives; how it compares to other listed buildings of a similar type; and how influential the building has been. In our view, these tests were met. - Jon Bounds

Culture Minister to go against English Heritage advice - http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol...
"Hodge is expected to turn down Birmingham’s library for listed status within the next few days. Resembling an inverted ziggurat temple, the building was designed by John Madin in the 1970s and is one of the city’s key modernist structures." Looks like it's time to start planning the sit-in. - Jon Bounds
