NoSQL "movement" roadblocks HTML5 WebDB - http://samj.net/2009...
Getting this right will be critical. And with the W3C already saying they don't want to continue pushing localStorage that means something needs to take it's place so that offline apps will work. - Brett Cannon

FiveThirtyEight: Politics Done Right: The Odds of Airborne Terror - http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2009...
Bloody terrorists! They continue to be incompetent (meaning I don't worry) and yet they still continue to inconvenience me. God I wish someone would take over the TSA who had the balls to clean it up and make it reasonable. - Brett Cannon

Android's Success a Threat To Free Software? - http://linux.slashdot.org/story...
Obviously a GPL-leaning commenter as BSD folks don't worry about this kind of thing. As for a solution to their worry, more web apps help (as long as there is not a significant server portion to the app). Otherwise just the usual preference of techies choosing open source or getting the app stores to flag open source apps as a security thing or something (but that will never happen). - Brett Cannon

Firefox 3.5 Now the Most Popular Browser Worldwide - http://tech.slashdot.org/story...
If those 5% - 7% numbers for IE6 are accurate, it would seem to suggest that for English-only sites it is not worth dealing with that horrible browser. Regardless, I am glad that I don't do any commercial work where I have to care. HTML5 or bust for me! - Brett Cannon

The ACM is pissing in the well - http://tartley.com/?p=940
Rather unfortunate the ACM is not supporting the open releasing of government-funded papers in a central location. Unfortunately for me the ACM controls almost all major CS conferences so I can't even contemplate not submitting as a form of protest. But I definitely won't become a member when I graduate. - Brett Cannon

Mobile Phone Cancellation Fees Help the Poor, Verizon Tells Feds - http://www.wired.com/epicent...
$120 in fees for advertising and such? That's a load of crap. And why only smartphones? Are you telling me Verizon doesn't advertise any other way except for smartphone users, meaning all other user types are accidental? - Brett Cannon
