"While it may seem incredible, even today this custom continues, in Dantesque, - in the Faroe Islands, ( Denmark ) . A country supposedly 'civilized' and an EU country at that. For many people this attack to life is unknown- a custom to 'show' enttering adulthood. It is absolutely atrocious. No one does anything to prevent this barbarism being committed against the Calderon, an intelligent dolphin that is placid and approaches humans out of friendliness. WHAT A SHAME, A SAD SCENE. THERE IS NO WORSE BEAST THAN MAN!"

This is and always will be horrific, barbaric and completely unnecessary. One may two men, hungry men who need food, clothing in a bout with spears or suchlike maybe but never ever this. I cannot believe that this is still happening.

oh com'on what the hell they are doing there :(

This is what one time a year ? What about all the cows ,pigs and chickens , fish that get killed just like this every day . Why do you not jump up and down about that ? If you eat meat you take a life and you are just as bad as the people who kill wales and dolphins . Step back and look at yourself as a killer .
- Lisa zahara Hopkins
@Demetrius I'm not going to even *try* to discuss that here. but it's exactly what Kevin said what I think.

I am a proud killer if you like, I have to eat meat and I am not a F,,,ing weirdo eating nuts.... and it is not the same....those guys killing just for fun it is not he same
- Demetrios the Traveller
This does not look like a slaughterhouse type of thing to me, or like fishing. People don't gang up on the animals this way in a slaughterhouse or while fishing. At least not to my knowledge.
- Kamilah Gill
If this is all true, I don't see what's wrong. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... It's a tradition, the whales aren't endangered, and the catch is split up evenly among the community to eat.
- Rodfather
so it's not just fun after all.. good, let's eat. @Kamilah you're right, at least these whales are Free.
- 'Like' robot (frɐnc)
Anyone who wants to compare this to other forms of animal slaughter, to a degree, in my opinion, have a point. But this is done for fun and is just reckless free for all slaughter, which is not regulated. While I would agree that any slaughter is nasty and perhaps we may be being squeamish but I cannot in all honest say that there is any reason while this barbaric practice should continue. It is sick just sick. Give it a name. Yes I do eat nuts but not exclusively!
- Kevin J Hatton
Who told you that Rodfather? There is nothing left it is hacked up meat and then everyone gets back in there Volvo's and goes home to see what's in the freezer.
- Kevin J Hatton
Disgusting! Shit like this makes me ashamed of humanity

http://www.nammco.no/webcron... - "In the Faroes, harvesting of pilot whales has been an important source of food for the inhabitants since the islands were colonised. Pilot whales are taken in an organised drive hunt, or grind. When whales are sighted, local fishing vessels co-operate to drive the whales into designated beaches. Once ashore, they are killed by severing the neck arteries and veins using a specialised knife. The catch is then evaluated by designated officials who measure and mark the whales. The catch is divided into shares following specified rules and distributed free of charge to hunt participants and all adult residents in the district (Bloch et al. 1990)."

WTF ? Where is PETA ? Why not anyone stopping this shit?
- Jacque
I was just going to add that this is not happening in Denmark proper, nor would the majority of Danes condone this, I'm fairly certain. As Lars just commented, the Faroe Islands are autonomously governed.
