My analysis of what's wrong with the analysis of what's wrong with charitable giving - and how to fix it: http://www.fastcompany.com/blog...
Just read through the America's Next Great Pundit entries - http://views.washingtonpost.com/pundits... - not sure anyone really jumped out. More of the same.
I want the Next Great American Pundit to talk about the issues that aren't being covered, discussed, and picked apart. Teach me. Inform me.
Teacher to class visiting from out of town: "Some of you feel comfortable in the city. That's great. But it means you are not thinking."
A pharmacist just told me to tell Henry that if he ever gets lost he should go to a Pharmacist for help. Is that true?
A pedestrian got hit by a car near our building. Scary. Henry and I will refrain from any jay-walking from here forward.
Is there a Target store on the island of Manhattan? My searching online suggests no. Have I stumbled on the ONE THING New York doesn't have?
At bedtime tonight, I told Henry the story of the Seahawks triumphant victory over the Detroit Lions. He'll have sweet dreams for sure.
Back in NYC. A friends' 2-yo bday party awaits. Good thing I read today's NYTimes article about Sesame Street. The toddlers and I can talk.
I am going to read the whole flight back to NYC - all hard copy stuff. The question: how long can I stay away (and does medium impact that)?
Good article about realities of online participation (Note: I am quoted, but that's not the only reason why its good) - http://techpresident.com/blog-en...
CNN Airport network pre-empted regular CNN's live coverage of POTUS press conference - first for commercials, and now Cardinals/Bears game.
Believable Change: A Reality Check on Online Participation (TechPresident) - http://techpresident.com/blog-en...
I'm quoted in this (really good) article about the challenges for online activism in today's political culture: The Obama campaign showed how digital tools can fuse the personal touch of local organizing with the powerful message of a national candidate and create a large, mobilized, virtual community, but online strategist Brian Reich is still looking for signs that Barack Obama the president can make the political personal as deftly as Obama the candidate made the personal political. "Obama did that extraordinarily well during the campaign because it was decentralized," says Reich, who is also a former staffer to Vice President Al Gore, "but the White House is the ultimate top-down communications vehicle." The traditional polarity of governance is not the only challenge to grassroots engagement by the White House." - Brian Reich
How Social Networking Will Transform Learning (Tom Vander Ark) - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tom-van...
There are plenty of theories about how to improve education. Most focus on what appear to be big levers--a point of entry and system intervention that appears to provide some improvement leverage. These theories usually involve 'if-then' statements: 'if we improve this, then other good stuff will happen.' Leading theories focus on people, schools, policy and community. Nonprofit ecosystems develop around theories, they ebb and flow with foundation interest. Although seldom discussed, leading levers differ substantially in terms of risk and return. - Brian Reich
Want Obama To Be Bolder? Take To The Streets! (Dan Froomkin) - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009...
This is supposed to be a participatory democracy, but we've all gotten used to non-participation. And the cost is enormous. - Brian Reich
RT @PoliticsNation: Carville on CNN: "The city of Seattle is about as liberal a place as I've run across." Yup, that's about right. #seattle
Just wrapped up the master class at AAMC with @lancephill (he's a smart guy, one of those who 'gets it' by the way). Heading home to NYC.
I want to know what organizations (of all kinds) think they offer to their 'community.' What is their value-add? #AAMC
@gwynnek agreed. Some smart people in the room, and the building. Learning from good questions. Ideas are flowing.
@gwynnek I wasn't going to make any assumptions, so thanks for intel. Any important points you want me to indoctrinate them with?
Good point from @lancephill at AAMC - shift the word 'audience' to 'participant' when talking about community. I could do that more.
Social networks allow you to connect with people like youso do bars, schools, carpools. The same? None of those are online of course. #AAMC
Good list of passive (ignoring, curious, chatting) vs active (publishing, responding, cultivating) behaviors online by @LancePHill at #AAMC
@gwynnek that is true regardless of the group, right (smile)? If people really 'get it' wouldn't we be seeing more and better results?
Looking at really interesting quad-graph of social networking and professional community providers for healthcare by @LancePHill at AAMC.
Co-teaching a Master Class with @LancePHill at AAMC. I set tone w/ info about audience changing. L showing specific options for community.
Final prep before my talk to the #AAMC in Boston - we're planning to blow the doors off what this crowd knows about the Internet.
For the record, even I know how to get to LGA (and I am terrible at directions). I told the first cab driver the route, he couldn't find it.
Security at LGA then dumped the stack of papers (I had just neatly organized on Friday) in my bag on the floor, stuffed them back in.
Wheels up to Boston. NYTimes (which I got for free this AM) in hand. If the bad karma continues and I end up in Rochester, I am prepared.
