@BoWarburton they need the money for the gold plated executive washroom in the new building ;-)
@davidt_50 Paul Graham's How to Disagree sums it up very well http://www.paulgraham.com/disagre...
Brian wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving.
@davidt_50 I would add something about the merit of the idea being the only valid basis for evaluating the ideas.
@davidt_50 not exactly, if your boss says X, that carries weight with people, doesn't have to be FUD
@CherylMcKinnon excellent point, the "cults of personality" part of my post should be redacted
@davidt_50 people accept ideas for the same reason, cults of personality. I guess it goes both ways.
@jcdietrich we had success with xplanner, might be worth looking into.
@jcdietrich There is also Greenhopper, a plugin for Jira.
@BoWarburton basically you can't trust hosting companies in the long run, so, you need a strategy for migrating data when your needs diverge
@BoWarburton Dave Winer on why SaaS has different risks. http://www.scripting.com/stories...
@BoWarburton open source is orthagonal to the other 2 options, so, yes OSS will be a factor, probably OSS base with closed enhancements
@BoWarburton as collaboration with people outside the firewall becomes more important SaaS has a huge advantage
Thinks ECM SaaS will have to convice people that the data is portable and that retention regs can be satisfied. 7+ years is long time
@BoWarburton the premises vs SaaS may turn out to be cyclical. Just like mainframes to pc's to web apps.
@BoWarburton think expansion, not everyone has their own email or web server as they don't have the time/expertise/money to run them
@BoWarburton not 0 sum game, OSS, SaaS can bring (e)cm to more organizations/deeper into orgs
@BoWarburton others will find Saas compelling(a form of outsourcing) for good reasons. Some will insist on local installs. FLOSS in all 3.
@BoWarburton all of the above. Different orgs will have different reqs
@BoWarburton e.g. Gov Intel premises
watching The Spy Who Loved Me on a who is the best Bond? night. It is between Roger and Sean tonight.
@sroller the theory is that there was an outbreak of H1N1 a long time ago and the older people have some residual immunity
@CherylMcKinnon with a wakeup that early why bother going to bed?
@timgriesbach I use FF and Chrome on my Mac, both have a bm mgr that syncs with my pc, kind of a mini cloud computing thing.
@jcdietrich lots of people think that *small* team rooms work well though.
@jcdietrich noise is also called out in Peopleware
@noddson @jcdietrich, but, if you have one of those you can't cover your tank in big fuzzy cover ;-)
NFL RedZone is great when you don't want to watch the games they are showing on your local channels. I want it in HD now.
@clientkm I am intrigued, maybe someone can post a picture either here or on FB?
