I reshare this to Ideas & Inspiration room :) These are so realistic!
- Kristian Salonen
I'm sorry but this is unbelievable:) I'll give credit to the artist upon more convincing proof! The photogenic look of the tiger and lion really helps the artist's case though:)
- Roney Smith
I'm with Roney... I find this hard to believe... or maybe I'm just jealous that I can't even get stick people right!
- Jasmin Smith
you cannot win on the interwebs. draw some crap it doesn't get noticed. draw something amazing in pencil and people say it's not real.
- Joe Breen
I'm really happy everyone liked these. They're my most liked entry to date, Thanks! There also seems to be some question about whether these are actually Pencil Drawings.I can assure you that they are. When I get home, I should have the links. I have more drawings, too.
- Michael Fidler

Thanks Enrique, I'll post some more soon. They are a little more obvious than these ones. As Luke points out; without being able to look closely it's impossible to tell. He's right; but up close it's more obvious. I'll upload the originals to Picasa later, and then you'll be able to zoom in with any photo viewer and see for yourselves. I can't believe how many people liked these. A few people have reposted them already. Thanks!
- Michael Fidler
Absolutely awesome, Michael. You are extremely talented. Everyone should repost these pix and help to make you famous. You should be doing this full time - you obviously have some passion for this. Bravo.
- Chris Loft
These are really beautiful, Michael. Do you sell them?
- Shannon Jiménez
Chris, I would love to say they're mine, but it's not true. I've had them for a while, but I'll find the artists names. It will just require a little backtracking. Besides, they deserve the credit; all I did was find them:-)
- Michael Fidler
Cut the bullshit! :) Photos are very good.
- Burçak Çubukçu
I draw alot in pencil, but they are amazing, the best for me is the girl, that is the most photo-like one. :o)
- Rob Sellen :o)
I agree Rob, the girl is amazing. My favorite by far! Wait until you see it close up! It's really had to tell, even up close!
- Michael Fidler
Burçak Çubukçu If these were photographs, they would be very good. As Pencil Drawings,(which they are), they're amazing.
- Michael Fidler
@Burçak Çubukçu I can't tell if your serious now or just kidding around. I hope your just having fun! If you are serious, I've never given you a reason to question my integrity, nor do I ever intend to. However, the second set is up now, so judge them for yourself, but don't judge me! http://ff.im/1BJh5 BTW, I messed up and reposted the shot of the women again. Oh well. Hope you like them:-)
- Michael Fidler
@Michael: try deviantART, not Picasa, to submit your artworks
- LouCypher
WOW "I can't believe it's in pencil"
- sofarsoShawn
LouCypher, I know it well, but I don't see why I would want to do that. I hope everyone knows by now that they're not mine? I'm sorry, but I can't say it any clearer than that.
- Michael Fidler
nah, i don't believe it is done in pencil. i am sure it is photoshopped :)
- hasin hayder
I'm finding this both interesting and humorous at the same time. There's a separate message board where this post is being discussed and it has another forty comments on it already. I think its great how this has created some lively discussion, considering that when I posted this I was doubtful if anyone would even like it. When I went to sleep last night there was only had 3 or 4 likes...

Very interesting. I would like to see them up close and in person...just to make sure. Bill said it's real and possible. Your 2nd set of picts look like pencil. Nice work in finding these!
- LaFern Cusack
Kol, I can't thank you enough! Kol found another post which helps to prove that these are done in pencil. I had my doubts about a few of them because I collected them from several different sites over time, but the site Kol found has done a great job pulling together an impressive collection of these drawings and more. Take a look - http://www.flickzzz.com/2009...
- Michael Fidler
Actually there are more than what this site shows. There's an entire set with the cats(little cats), which I have, and there's a new portrait set.
- Michael Fidler
Found your post here, Michael. :-) I tried my best to find the artists.
- Kol Tregaskes
Amazing and very very very good.... Very impressive ...
- Linda Zeek-Bobinski
Yeah we know, thanks though, James. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Excellent pictures - how long did it take you to scan the photographs into Photoshop and then edit them? The only pencil that has come into contact with these "drawings" is the Photoshop pencil. A tip - stop trying to fool people into thinking you are a "real" artist, because all you are doing is cheapening proper artist's works whom have spent hours creating real pictures as opposed to a few minutes on a graphics editing package.
- The Wimp
A bell does ring here. And I am remembering why I was so attracted to the tiger...and the lion for that matter. These are exact replicas of prints I had in our bedroom when I lived in Dallas. I had bought the prints (in color) at a department store,
- Melanie Reed
Actually, I have learned quite a bit about these drawing since I made this post. Not only have I discovered all of the artists, but I've learned more about how they are created. They are always copied from a photograph or painting, but usually a photograph. It is extremely time consuming and detail orientated work. There are many other artists besides the ones featured here who practice...

Most of them have portfolio's on deviantart.com and their work is truly amazing even if they are copies of other artists work. I suppose with this level of detail, they have to start with something. All you have to do is take some photos – which you never delete from your camera – so when someone finds your camera at the bottom of the gorilla pit they are able to locate you and return the lost property to its rightful owner. http://www.andrewmcdonald.net.au/a-picto...
I like how everything is clear and readable except the email address.
- Alex Scrivener
LOL That's funny, but yeah...what's with the email address being so small?
- Admiral Anika
At any rate, I had a video I made with all my info on it. I accidentally took it off my chip, but I'm positive I copied it to my camera. Unfortunately, I don't know how to access my camera's memory and the cord has been lost. One of these days, I'll RTFM. =)
- Admiral Anika
I like how the facial expressions match the whiteboard :-)
- Rene Wirtz
lol that was awesome as hell. I'm definitely planning to do it.
- Bora Mesut PALAS
I'd just leave only one pic with my email
- Itachi
The other pics build empathy, encouraging a border-line thief to return the camera. Otherwise you may as well stick a label on the case and be done with it.
- Alex Scrivener
Does anyone else want to make out with this guy for being SO DAMN AWESOME? Srsly, total panty-dropper this one was.
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
wow, this is very close to being the most popular thing I have ever posted to Friendfeed. Just goes to show, um, something. Always use pictures?
- Alex Scrivener
I'm the opposite. I tend to ignore posts with photos (unless the post itself is just a photo). Why? The image usually detracts from the text and people spend time talking about the picture and making it clear they didn't bother to read the text or link.
- Admiral Anika
=/ (not about the original post. I already expressed how much I love it)
- Kamilah Gill
Or you could just put an address sticker on the camera...
- Alix Whitmire
No, the pictures try to build an emotional connection with the finder. It helps convince a not-so-honest person to return the camera rather than just keep it. It won't stop a real thief, but it could tip the odds in his favor. A sticker can't do that.
- Alex Scrivener
There should be a place in your camera for email address, like cell phones have "Home" so when you lose it, someone can call you. Hmmmm.
- anna sauce
I wouldn't ever think to go through pics, but if I found a lost cam (or phone or whatever) with an address clearly visible on it, I'd pop it in the mail, or call/email someone, no problem. Same holds true for some lost and found places. They might call you if there's easy contact info, but I don't see them taking the time to flip through photos to figure out how. Maybe do both?
- Alix Whitmire
I was putting a README.txt file on my USB sticks with contact info if it got lost. This is way better! Now take this board with your contact info.... smile, no! put a sad face.... and you're done!
- Nenad Nikolic
This is now far and away the most popular thing I have ever posted. Even got a FFundercats Best of the Week!

I think the mistake that a lot of us here have made about Robert Scoble is that he doesn't cheer for the superior solution, he cheers for the solution with the most momentum. When Twitter and Facebook begin to falter in the face of a new competitor, you can bet he'll drop them like... well, like he did when FriendFeed had the momentum. #dhsb
I've known of Robert for ages now so his behavior doesn't bother me. I've always found it interesting that people seem to take his opinions so personally. Far as I know, being at the head of the curve is the man's job. Has been for years. The presentation may be a bit too abrupt for folks I suppose; that people continue to get agitated by it all is fascinating to me.
- pea
I wouldn't mind Robert if his opinions didn't come off with so much rancor and grit. I have opinions too, but I don't stomp around and wield my knowledge as if it's the end all and be all. Whatever. I bet if me and Robert were to hang out in person, we'd have some fun.
- Derrick
pea, all good points with which I happen to also agree. What I've seen is that people seem to get irritated at him because when he does start cheering for something, he does so with absolute authority and as if the Messiah has finally arrived to save us all. Then, six months later, when he starts cheering for something else, he HAS to take a huge dump on the previous cheer-object to make his cheers for the new one more effective.
- Akiva Moskovitz
D, I didn't get to hang out with Robert as much as I would have liked at Gnomedex but from the little I did, let me tell you, the man exudes a kind of childlike joy that's hard not to get swept up in. It's a rare quality to find so I can see why he has such a huge following.
- Akiva Moskovitz
I get that, Akiva. We've seen glimpses of non-tech Robert from time to time. I was actually surprised when at SXSW he called me out for not crossing paths in real life. I'd love to talk anything but tech with him sometime. I wonder if he likes tacos?
- Derrick
If he is a human being, he better love some tacos. Now that is something that no one can disagree with
- Shevonne
Robert's a cool guy, but I think that sometimes he is thinking something in his head, but doesn't express them into words properly, which causes people to get offended
- Shevonne
I've never been terribly interested in that aspect of the business so I can't say with any real knowledge if dumping on a previously regaled product is necessary. Robert's delivery isn't really my cup of tea and his area of focus doesn't jive with my interests so I'm able to avoid his posts. We've never run in the same circles. He has some really cute children though. I'd be happy to listen to cute stories of his kids all day long. :) I'd even put up with some tech talk in order to make that happen.
- pea
I prefer Robert when he's not talking about tech stuff, intelligent and insightful.
- Matthew DeVries
Most of the time it is not even Robert that aggravates people, it is the minions that work their nerves. Unfortunately it happens most often in Robert's threads.
- Amber, Random Time Lord
When it comes to tech though, he is good at figuring out where the end is, and if the universe is truely infinite, or just mathematically infinite. Like his critiques of GReader, I guess it's good to know that performance and service starts to break down when you start trying to similtaneiously open 500,000 RSS feeds. Will more than 3 people on the planet ever push something like that...

I really like Robert, from what I see online in other places than here post FB takeover. He seems like the nicest person in tech. I think Merlin is the nicest. I think him, and the entire LDS Cabal have to trump him on nice. But Robert's up there with them.
- Matthew DeVries
I contend that his band wagon-ing wouldn't be so annoying if he would just jump on his new band wagon and not bother to go on and on about the faults of the previous band wagon to people, where the only fault is that it isn't the band wagon du jour for Americans. Apple still makes computers that many, but not most people like, and has leveraged that into a formidable digital empire.
- RAPatton
Robert is good though for pointing out things that are building momentum - that is his special super power which he uses a lot and only for good.
- Dan Morrill AKA Techwag
Akiva, I don't think he just cheers for the service with the most momentum. I saw him cheering for FriendFeed for a long time, and Twitter has always had more momentum than FriendFeed.
- Bruce Lewis
Remember, when FriendFeed was rising was when Twitter was having their most problems just staying up. Every week there was a new Twitter-killer such as FriendFeed, Plurk, Identi.ca, whatever. Within the context of the time, FriendFeed definitely had the momentum and Twitter was in its pre-Oprah/Kutcher death throes.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Rasmus, Robert Scoble is definitely not the nicest person in tech. One thing geeks like about him is his candid feedback. When you're building something, you really need people not to think too much before they tell you their impressions. Sometimes he gets in trouble by not thinking before speaking, but he apologizes later.
- Bruce Lewis
Akiva, how I remember it is that FriendFeed was the back-burner boyfriend that people went to when Twitter was down. FriendFeed was always the underdog. FriendFeed surpassing twitter because of twitter downtime was always speculation, never reality.
- Bruce Lewis
I still think it's apples and oranges. I use both.
- Ian May
Ian, you're right. But apples in some ways compete with oranges.
- Bruce Lewis
Bruce, I didn't write that FriendFeed was surpassing Twitter although I do believe that if Twitter had collapsed, FriendFeed would have been the replacement and not Plurk, et al. However, that's all just speculation. You do make a solid point, however: Scoble cheered hard for FriendFeed long after FriendFeed had begun to lose its momentum; pretty much right up until Facebook's talent-grab. This tells me that FriendFeed had (and probably still has) a special place in Robert's heart.
- Akiva Moskovitz
It sure does. His relationship status with FriendFeed is, "It's complicated."
- Bruce Lewis
He works in the attention economy. Rackspace pays him because he has the attention of (English-speaking) geeks. He has to go where the geeks are, and where he can pick up interesting geeky things to talk about that help him keep geek attention.
- Bruce Lewis
Woah, Bruce. I suddenly want to buy you a stuffed bear with a heart embroidered on it for the phrase 'attention economy'.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Don't do it, I'm warning you! Or I'll send you a little dancing snowman that sings, "We wish you a Merry Christmas" :-) (EDIT: oops, I thought the words were going to be embroidered on it, misread. Go ahead, send me one.)
- Bruce Lewis
The idea of a nice, plush, stuffed animal with the words 'Attention Economy' written on it are killing me. 100% LOL over here.
- Akiva Moskovitz
There's something *seriously* wrong with people who don't like tacos.
- Christopher A Carr
I shall keep quiet about my dislike of tacos.
- Mark H
By the way, Akiva, you are demonstratably wrong about what I do. Best of breed social networks ARE NOT the ones with the best features or technology or even "momentum" (and, sorry, FriendFeed never had broad momentum).
- Robert Scoble
from iPhone
pfft. I doubt if they have real tacos in the U.K., Mark H!
- Laura Norvig
Oh. My brother-in-law is a Brit. He was taco-clueless prior to moving to the States. No, don't dump brown sauce on it!
- Christopher A Carr
Robert, that's fine; I wasn't trying to be right. I was just hypothesizing for the heck of it.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Best of breed social networks are the ones with the best breed. And thus breedest momentum.:)

Scrubs is very cheap because they owned the building that was Sacred Heart Hospital if i recall correctly

Same reason that Wonderfalls went away. Good things must die.

Andrew - but they're BETTER. :) And CW, Fox also owned Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but it played on WB and then UPN. Scrubs has switched networks at least once. It can happen.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Scrubs had a magnificent series finale last year. (I prefer to think of the current season as a spinoff show, which it basically is.)
- Andrew C
And don't get me started on Firefly, Jandy. I liked it, but I could never understand why it got so much geek love. TSCC, well, it ended both seasons very well but the start of each was too aimless and slow.
- Andrew C
Advertising dollars. Scrubs appeals to a much larger audience even though we smug people know better.
- MVB (Grinch of FF)
from fftogo
Plus, Scrubs never got cancelled for real, not all the way. (When NBC dropped it, they already knew ABC would pick it up, since it was an Disney studios show to begin with and made business sense for Disney as a whole.) With TSCC or Firefly, once the sets were struck and the actors released, it's so hard to get everyone back. With animated shows, I think it's a lot easier to get the cast back. They don't even need to record together.
- Andrew C
Jandy Just becasue of Buffy, is why Fox still deals with Joss.
- Santa CW™
What I don't know is why Joss still deals with Fox. And Andrew, I didn't know the station change was already set on Scrubs before NBC dropped it. It just doesn't seem possible for sci-fi shows (excluding BtVS/Angel, if you count them as sci-fi, and X-Files) to get more than two seasons on the major nets, and that frustrates the hell out of me. Stupid sitcoms get 8+ seasons all the time...

- Andrew C
from Android
I don't understand that, either, Andrew. How is Two and a Half Men still on the air when Arrested Development isn't? I'm particularly bothered with sci-fi, but the bigger issue is that smart TV gets cancelled, while dumb or no-longer-at-the-top-of-their-game shows continue. (Note, my issue is as much with "why don't people watch smart shows" as much as with "why do networks cancel smart shows," because I know the shows I want to stay on don't always get good ratings.)
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
[Speaking of Heroes - that's a great example. Heroes had one really good season, and it has been dismal since. Yet they keep bringing it back, retooling, bringing back showrunners, rebooting, all sorts of things. Why does it get so many chances and shows that are solid don't?]
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
I'm going to ignore that fact that all of you are dissing Scrubs. You can't pick another show?
- Eric @ CSTechcast.com
I'm sorry, Eric. I don't really dislike Scrubs. I just thought it was cancelled twice (once on NBC and once on ABC - I may have made up the second one), and then saw a commercial for it so it was fresh in my head. The initial post was less "bad shows like Scrubs get renewed and good shows get canceled" and more "Scrubs gets more than one chance and these shows don't." I didn't have enough characters on Twitter to word the end of the sentence better.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
The big talk about Scrubs when Season 5 started was that they would never get more viewers, just their core fans. They were going to cancel after season 5 when they saw an unexpected increase in viewership. Then season 7 was the strike season so that was going to be the big cancel and then ABC picked it up for season 8 where the viewership grew again. For a while Scrubs was like your...

Thanks for the info, Eric. So Scrubs was able to gain viewership while the other shows weren't. I haven't seen past the first couple of seasons of Scrubs - what did it do to gain those viewers? Was it something in the show itself, or was it in marketing or promotion? Is it something that other shows and/or networks can learn from?
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
My pet theory is that a good show needs to make it to syndication to really permeate into the national consciousness if it couldn't do so right out of the gate. So, Lost, 24: they hit big right away. But Seinfeld, the Simpsons... those definitely went to another level of popularity after the earlier seasons were syndicated daily.
- Andrew C
from Android
Hmmm, interesting thought, Andrew. And would explain why sitcoms might do better at picking up an audience later. Shows like Firefly or Sarah Connor or a lot of the others I like wouldn't really do well in syndication, because they don't work well if you watch them out of order, or if you come into the show in the middle. Even Arrested Development as a sitcom is much more arc-based than...

And Scrubs fits my theory, because I think the timing fits. I don't recall NBC doing anything particularly awesome with promotions in S6, but it would have gone into syndication around that time.
- Andrew C
Andrew is right, syndication helped Scrubs quite a bit with new viewers.
- Eric @ CSTechcast.com
My theory also explains why critics were calling the Simpsons the greatest comedy around years after it climbed down off the throne, threw the crown in the garbage, and then started rolling around in the dumpster bin: the critics were still watching the old episodes. =)
