Hmmm. tough question. I can't think really of any major peeves with specific plot devices. I think the most crucial aspect is their implementation. I mean you can take the most cliche amnesia device and use it to great effect.

Yeah, tough question. I guess for me, the most disliked is being forced to switch main characters regularly, say like Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits. I don't mind being able to choose when to switch focus to expound on the plot but being forced to kinda drains my enthusiasm to play the game. Like the above mentioned, I stopped playing it and haven't picked it up again yet.

Oh man I never even though of switching main characters that would seriously piss me off as a constant mechanic. Good call Arlan.

the "Long Lost Heir" - it seems like you can never just have a thief that turns into a hero, they have to have been related to royalty, the last in a line of magicians, etc. This is seconded only by the "Orphaned Princess" who is incapable of holding her throne against the evil viceroy/would be fiance/pet dog/stranger who comes along.

The 'traveling shop' that often seems to turn up even in the last dungeon. Even if it's deep underground. On the moon.
