Palm should have built the app store for it sooner to make a better initial impact

So, who wants to bet that even though Calacanis pushed the Arrington issue before the show, he'll bring it up again during the show. Arrington's a prick, apology or no...
- James Britton
Mister IQ, last year they announced the new Touch in the summer, before it came out in September

My WinMo phone has an app to turn it into a wifi router
- Michael Benny
I have a T-Mobile MDA and haven't upgraded because EDGE data is costing me $5 but if I got a new phone, it would be $25!, thats over $200 more per year!
- Sean Flaherty
I'm sure we'll see webOS on different form factors withing 12 months... there's already a candybar in the works
- Ken Sheppardson
@Jay throw Android in at number three (maybe tied with 2) and shove blackberry down
- James Britton
Japan has HD video cell phones already!
- Scott Hubble
Matthew: Still it may not be released until September by my guess.
- Mister IQ
Google gave out free phones at I/O - think Apple will do the same at WWDC?

Apple will never release a netbook with ATOM processor.

Is there a way to keep the twit.tv popout window always on top?
- zephyrlily
zephyrlily: I use nvidia software to put any window on top
- Jay McCormack
Apple Might Make a netbook but they will redefine what netbooks are
- nanochrome
zephyrlily, you would probably have to have a separate app that does that for you
- Matthew
Jackson Pollock: I hope it would have a full version of OS X.
- Mister IQ
I think Apple might drop the price of AIR, the margins on
- Akshay Dodeja
Steve hates pens and gloves and everything like that. They would never do a tablet with a pen, and never do a tablet without a pen, but with OSX. It will be a huge iPhone
- Jackson Pollock
I tend to agree with Jeff Cannata about tablets, iPhone is a perfect size, just needs more power/storage/openness
- James Britton
Dear Jason, you know which platforms already have the turn-it-into-a-wifi-hotspot app you described? Windows Mobile and Symbian. For months.
- Vlad Bobleanta
Mister IQ. They would never do that. if an engineer gave Steve a touchscreen devise that you have to hit a tiny little red x in a corner to exit an app, he would throw it out the window. It has to have a touchscreen OS.
- Jackson Pollock
I'm so proud of them, they haven't mentioned twitter once!
- Curtis
They're not going to release a Netbook unless there is some sort of developer focus. Remember this is a dev conference.
- Jesse Stay
@Ken Thinking about it now, I've yet to see one in person.
- 321
Jason the digg blog that announced (http://blog.digg.com/?p=808) digg ads says "Conversely the more an ad is buried, the more the advertiser is charged, pricing it out of the system."
- russtbarnacle
@Jesse, popout the twit.tv and put it next to your FF window
- zephyrlily
zephyrlily I know how to do that - that's not what I was referring to. :-)
- Jesse Stay
Jason is full of it, people will watch good ads... Superbowl anyone?
- Roy Pledge
@jesse I'm sure when (if?) Wave comes out, Leo will do that.
- Vlad Bobleanta
Bing takes over Yahoo, wihtout much effort. all advertising

I don't think Bing is doing well regionally beyond the US. i can't get the map stuff to work in Australia.

- Holger Eilhard
Even if BING is great, what is the compelling reason to use anything other than Google which IS great and I am really comfortable with already?
- Joel Asaro
I'm very impressed with Bing. I haven't used Google since Bing come out.
- Joseph Ferris
Joel: Agreed... there's just not enough to move accross to it
- Jay McCormack
That's the problem it good but there is nothing about Bing that makes people want to use it over Google
- Kim Landwehr
The video preview is a thumbnail, how can Denise expect you to watch a video in a search result in total
- Jay McCormack
Bing; how about not showing previews of short videos. problem solved
- Roberto Bonini
This is the same issue over and over again. It's not the technology's responsibility to not watch inappropriate content (porn or violence or whatever). It's the parent's responsibility to instill the right values in the child.
- Jay McCormack
See! Leo has done a good job educating his kids to look at the right stuff
- Jay McCormack
Where is everyone going for WWDC coverage?
- Mister IQ
is WWDC going to be streamed, or will it only be for download after the fact
- Matthew
@Chris That's true, but I would personally rather just see user-generated content without the advertising. At least Digg is doing it much better, as long as they clearly disclose what is advertisement, than banner ads and popups.
- 321
Bing video search does show youtube videos
- Kim Landwehr
Hard work... it's taken PayPal years to get it right
- Jay McCormack
Exactly when did PayPal get it right?
- Roy Pledge
LOL @ clinton and cigar. Did anyone get that?
- Lise
Would be nice if they bring back their old features they took away because their infrastructure couldn't handle them before they try to add new ones.
- Ken Sheppardson
Of the many payment options, it's easy, it works, it's international, it might be expensive, but it does work.
- Jay McCormack
he didnt make any intention to even use or expand no the account, he just wanted it down
- Chris Miller
yeah ken, but you and i know that's not a technical problem
- Chris Heath
@Lise: I laughed, but then felt guilty because no one seemed to find it funny :P
- Cory Roush
Have you ever tried to contact Twitter support?
- Jesse Stay
@Ken I agree. I'm still upset about this whole @ reply feature
- Lise
You have to have TechCrunch to write about it for them to listen that you are being impersonated.
- Jesse Stay
Tony La Russo's 501c3: It's NOT about adoptions; it's about DONATIONS. Donations might be affected by something like a Twitter account, especially in the future.

I guess this means Tony's not getting on the Featured users list
- Jesse Stay
@JasonC you look cute as Maverick! I say keep the look. You don't need the cigar, though.

Lise: he needs a cap or something to finish the look

Bill Gates did talk about this at D5 tho, people forget

Natal can recognize 48 points of motion compared to the PS3's 2, plus you know Natal will work with Windows 7
- Matthew
Natal combined with the new controller Sony showed would be pretty slick.
- Ken Sheppardson
Felicia Day looks good with anything! :-P
- Hipp

watch the Bill Gates and Steve Jobs interview from D5. Bill talked about it and was laughed out because people thought he meant the Wii interface
- Jackson Pollock
Shane Kim said that releasing Natal in the spring would be "aggressive". So they still have a year or more to work on it.
- Matthew
The press has completely missed the navigation piece of Natal...did you see the minority report style menu conteol and the voice control of teh video playback?
- Rob
Wii's just integrating acceleration to get position. The Sony controller actually measures the position of the controller, doesn't it?
- Ken Sheppardson
I want 3D games with those controllers
- Jesse Stay
MS will put Natal on Windows as well, so Minority Report type interface is possible when this comes out
- Matthew
Lindsay: All chats on FriendFeed are real time.
- Nicholas James
what if they added skype to xbox using natal
- Michael Mooney
You know what drives me mad! "Fall 09" as a release date. Just watched the scribblenauts video, says available Fall 09. 1: Fall = Autumn for me, 2: When is Autumn? Each hemisphere has autumn at different times of the year! Argghhhhh!
- Jay McCormack
Leo, the newest dashboard for the Xbox (NXE) lets you install your games to the hard drive, and it barely makes a sound. The fans don't make that much noise, it's the DVD drive that makes all the sound due to wanting short load times
- Matthew
The streaming HD on the TiVo Netflix interface is beautiful!
- Aaron T. Harvey
I think that ringtone should have Keyboard Cat as a backing track instead.
- Ken Sheppardson
I don't think Michael was the only person who was supposed to get a review unit Friday and didn't. I suspect there were logistical issues.

"The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 2009 will kick off with a keynote address on Monday, June 8 at 10:00 a.m. A team of Apple executives, led by Phillip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, will deliver the keynote address" -- http://developer.apple.com/wwdc...
- Ken Sheppardson
anyone watching twit live? is this a green screen shot or are they at WWDC?
- David Lloyd
That pretty much means tablet as far as I'm concerned. In terms of touch, the trackpad on a macbook is the same hardware as the iphone/possible mac tablet
- Jackson Pollock
Well, Quicktime has been the same for the last 3-4 versions more or less
- Jackson Pollock
You know, you guys were nagging Apple like this last year. You wanted 3G, you wanted GPS bla bla. Now you're poo-pooing GPS and saying that there is zero coverage of 3G in the US. The beauty of the iPhone is the lack of a continual need for hardware updates. The functionality is not tied to the phone. Every version of the phone has the same functionality, only with different specs
- Jackson Pollock
I saw a few people I follow do #followfriday. I clicked on some of the folks they suggested. They seemed interesting. I did the same. So I posted #followfriday with the names of folks I had interesting convos with or saw cool content. That simple.
- Patrick Moorhead
maybe he is just listening to the wrong people.
- Rob Diana
I told him that he's missing what's really going on in FriendFeed and is only paying attention to noisy Twitterers.
- Robert Scoble
I think the guy whoever he is needs to explore more than techmeme. not saying FF is the best, but there's more on the net than techmeme. geeze :P
- Terry O'Fee
I call BS on that!! I subscribe to LOTs of bloggers here and they're great...
- Susan Beebe
I take it he was a info-snob...If it doesn't look like a table of pure news it's not valuable... Anyway, Techmeme may give you data, but FriendFeed gives you context :)
- Johnny Worthington
Agree on the Twitter comment. I removed my twitter feed from my FF a while back - I think it makes my FF much more useful and readable. Now I post *to* Twitter from FF, which I feel allows the conversation to flow more smoothly.
- Carlos Granier-Phelps
FriendFeed is just like Twitter. It's all about WHO you follow / read. I do like Techmeme too tho.
- Bruce Wagner
Can ONE source (techmeme) overpower THOUSANDS of sources deployed worldwide? NOT. The new media, including CNN, Fox, Yahoo etc. have already created special mailbox addresses for "tidbits from the masses" because they all figured out the best info comes from the ground and not from editorial rooms.
- Nir Ben Yona
from twhirl
Pico: his point was that the stuff he reads on FriendFeed is pablum and not authoritative where a much higher percentage of stuff he sees on TechMeme is much better sourced and reported and all that. Can't say I don't disagree, if you look at it that way. FriendFeed is interesting because it's flatter and smaller voices are not locked out.
- Robert Scoble
On FriendFeed, you pick your sources; on TechMeme, sources pick you! </Yakov Smirnoff>
- Doug Haslam
from twhirl
Carlos: I wish people didn't do that. The reader can remove Twitter from the view. The writer should aggregate all their stuff in here.
- Robert Scoble
Robert: I see your point, but I find myself using FF a lot more nowadays and didn't see the real value of "littering" my FF stream with some of my more informal conversations on Twitter.
- Carlos Granier-Phelps
Why does it have to be either/or? I use them both, and sometimes neither. But friends provide the real discovery for me. I follow thinkers
- Francine Hardaway
I agree... KEEP your TWITTER feed on FF, we can filter out noise with FF perfectly fine
- Susan Beebe
Carlos: the informal conversations are often the most important. Don't remove them.
- Robert Scoble
Friend Feed is much more than just Tech things, MUCH MORE!! It is like comparing E! News with Facebook...
- Diego Planas Rego
that's how you learn what works, as opposed to what's really happening. From informal convos'
- Francine Hardaway
from IM
FF is just community linking. techmeme thinks they're more professional. egos versus the many. is FF anymore important than the other? probably not, but its good to discover other websites...
- Terry O'Fee
I completely disagree #1 Source for news is socialmedian, hands down #2 friendfeed, #3 twitter. No Rank Techmeme is slow like AllTops and I rarely go there unless I see something in their rss feed that I missed elsewhere. I didn't mention Google Reader, because it's a given. I use it all day, and it's an indispensably tool!
- Michael Fidler
Susan, Robert: Ok... I'll give that another try and see how it goes. Don't say I didn't warn you, though - ;-)
- Carlos Granier-Phelps
I think if this guy wants to keep things simple, TM could work out better for him. FF does have both startup and maintenance costs related strictly to "news getting."
- David Wynn
But what about the busy news reader who only wants the news, and not the noise? I can see where TechMeme would have its place by ranking the best bloggers' news and removing any Twitter or FriendFeed participant noise, right? Weird that no one is sticking up for TechMeme. I guess I'll have to write a post about it to get the TechMemers to come here and support that site.
- Robert Scoble
How do you add twitter BACK to FF? hahah
- Terry O'Fee
I get more news from here than there but I don't follow the miniscule end of the tech news scope anyway. Nothing facebook does or any xyz start up really has anything to do with where i work in the biz, though, so i could just have different needs.
- Patricia
in Italy T and FF are used as very personal, emotional tools - like super-sms for friends, say. so a news, in that contest, is a disturb. very rare good sources from there. TM has the old, good role of selection: no "goin dinner with..." stories, thnx. so I use TM for information and T + FF (italian networks) mostly for fun or confrontation. different in intl: people I follow from abroad mix more info and fun - if content is made by people, tools are contexts, so it depends :)
- Alberto D'Ottavi
If you are a blogger, would you rather be on FriendFeed or TechMeme? Me? I'd rather be on FriendFeed and that shocked this gentleman. He thought I'd rather be on TechMeme since that's where he thought all authoritative and credible bloggers would want to be.
- Robert Scoble
FF is better personally. Techmeme often shows up here and I get other sources from people who might not be as slanted as some of those on techmeme.
- InPerpetualMotion(Gina k)
someone told me that too... (probably the same someone)
- Orli Yakuel
Interesting to use Compete to compare TechMeme to FriendFeed to TechCrunch. All three are down in past month, but FriendFeed is up this year while TechMeme is flat. http://siteanalytics.compete.com/friendf...
- Robert Scoble
always seemed to me that techmeme was a walled garden that aggregates a subset of sources which occurs via an editorial process followed by light weight automation - thus limited and elitist vs friendfeed which is presence aggregation via automation followed by a broad community of contributors who create context and extend the original concepts - thus unlimited, open to all and highly preferred :)
- mike "glemak" dunn
Two completely different products. Gabe's recent introduction of 'human' intervention rather than total automation should improve TechMeMe somewhat. It's a good quick take. Friendfeed can literally be almost anything you want it to with the growing set of included tools, making it appeal to a much wider audience.
- Charlie Anzman
Techmeme vs. Friendfeed? A curious dichotomy. I use Google Reader to track the following feeds collectively for tech news: Alt Search Engines, CNET News, Engadget, KurzweilAI.net, Lifehacker, New York Times: Science, New York Times: Technology, O'Reilly Radar, ScienceDaily Headlines, Silicon Valley Insider, Slashdot, Techmeme, Technology Review, TeleRead, Wired News, Yahoo! News: Technology News. To be honest, this GR folder provides me with significantly higher grade information than Friendfeed.
- Sean McBride
Per se it does, but you only get 2 aspects, the writers and yours. With FriendFeed you get X persons view on each piece of news.
- Linus
The thing is, one has to prioritize. At any given time there are a few dozen people on the planet whose minds are on fire and who really understand what is going on with the most strategic trends in technology (and all other fields). One mustn't be distracted by noise. Gadget groupies are followers, not leaders.
- Sean McBride
I haven't been to Techmeme in months... or TechCrunch for that matter.. between FriendFeed, Twitter, Socialmedian and my RSS feeds, I usually get the news I want when I want. Let him continue to use Techmeme, I'm sure the world will continue to spin
- Bwana ☠
Discuss this without using profanity? can't be done.
- Chris Baskind
Ouch… haven't really read Techmeme almost at all but have to say that they certainly should update their layout to this century. Having features or huge amount of content don't mean much if it's painful for eyes to read.
- Daniel Schildt
I like both services. For a pure couple times a day snapshot of all Tech News I think Techmeme is better. For breaking news first I think FF is better. FF is much more than Tech news though and I like that.
- Thomas Hawk
TechMeme is nice, but their life span is being reduced. We are using FF as a transport service and doing some text mining ourselves.
- Sebastian Wain
