The BackType widget is great solution for bringing important content into a blog-type site. If you can edit basic javascript/html you can hack it to use your own css instead of the static one provided by BackType via the widget code. (more comments to follow...)

Mike Montano mentioned that there had been some requests to include a comment excerpt in addition to the blog post title where the comment was made (as seen here: http://mm.urbantwelve.com). I'm very much in support of this as an option since the comment is more relevant to the widget owner than the blog post. Both are even better because the title provides context for the comment. One other note is that links in the widget pull users into the BackType site. I'd prefer the post title link to the original source. That way if I want to join the conversation, I can comment on the post (vs clicking through via the BackType site). (more in next comment...) - Bryan Landers
Perhaps it would be best to have a widget customization form on the BackType widget page where users can select which options they want and then customized, copy-and-paste-able code is created. You could have a checkbox for including blog favicons, comment excerpts, blog title, blog author, and default style. All this could be done via API, of course, but widgets are geared towards users who want to simply copy and paste without any hacking. - Bryan Landers
The customization should be easy enough -- we'll release it sometime soon :) - CG
We should come up with a name for this process...maybe transparent social product shaping? Or rapid social prototyping? Or conversation-based product development? :) - Bryan Landers
Let's just call it awesome. - Taylor Davidson
