Dieses Kerlchen besuchte wie ich vor kurzem den herbstlichen Botanischen Garten in Krefeld. Der ist zwar klein und wenig spektakulär, aber hübsch angelegt und kostet keinen Eintritt. Wo gibt es das denn noch? Vor mir hatte der Igel ein wenig Angst, erholte sich aber blitzschnell wieder und fand die auf den Boden gestellte Kamera super interessant. Hoffentlich kann er sich noch genug Speck anfressen und findet ein kuscheliges Plätzchen für seine Überwinterung. Mach's gut, kleiner Freund! This little guy visited lately, as I did, the autumn botanical garden in Krefeld. That one is quite small and not that spectacular, but created nicely and is admission free. Where else do you have something like this nowadays? The little hedgehog was a bit frightened of me, but recovered quickly and had a great interest in the camera I put on the ground. "A reexamination of specimens of Entosthodon balansae Besch. from Chile reveals that they represent either Entosthodon obtusifolius Hook.f., Funaria chilensis (Thér.) Thér. or Physcomitrium sp. ABSTRACT Mosses are an understudied group of plants that can potentially confirm or expand principles of plant function described for tracheophytes, from which they diverge strongly in structure. We quantified 35 physiological and morphological traits from cell-, leaf- and canopy-level, for 10 ground-, trunk- and branch-dwelling Hawaiian species. We hypothesized that trait values would reflect the distinctive growth form and slow growth of mosses, but also that trait correlations would be analogous to those of tracheophytes. The moss species had low leaf mass per area and low gas exchange rate. Unlike for tracheophytes, light-saturated photosynthetic rate per mass (Amass) did not correlate with habitat irradiance. Other photosynthetic parameters and structural traits were aligned with microhabitat irradiance, driving an inter-correlation of traits including leaf area, cell size, cell wall thickness, and canopy density.
