Re: BSAG » Learning Python again - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"Interesting! Looks ideal for data-intensive applications." - bsag
Re: BSAG » Learning Python again - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"Looks interesting, I'll take a closer look. However, I must say that I have found a combination of using Homebrew for Python itself and then pip and virtualenv to install libraries really painless." - bsag
Re: The Way of the Megapode - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"Funnily enough, I'm exam marking at the moment, and in Procrastination City. My oven has never been so clean." - bsag

"'Waxing the cat'? I don't think I want to know what that's a euphemism for! If only my bicycle bell carried 5 miles, I'd be sorted..." - bsag
Re: The Way of the Megapode - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"I like your thinking! Unfortunately it wouldn't work in my case because I don't have a train season ticket. I don't use the train often (usually once or twice a week), and unfortunately the train operator in the Midlands does not provide facility to prepay for ad hoc trips as you can do with an Oyster card in London for example. I therefore just buy the odd ticket with cash, so there's no account I could poll. I can imagine megapodes being quite fierce. On a side note, I don't know if you ever watched the comedy series Spaced, but as a result I now address all miniature schnauzers as 'Colin' :-). If you've never seen Spaced, that won't make any sense..." - bsag
Re: TWSBI Diamond Mini and Ink Bottle - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"The Mini is great isn't it? I'm using it heavily for marking at the moment, and love it. The ink bottle is really clever too, and I find myself thinking, I'll just get *one* more..." - bsag
Re: BSAG » Regional terms of endearment to strangers - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"Quite a number of regional endearments seem to involve domestic birds for some reason..." - bsag
Re: BSAG » Regional terms of endearment to strangers - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"Ah, I had forgotten about that one: "Me duck" is lovely too." - bsag
Re: BSAG » NewsBlur - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"The dev version has different styling which is much cleaner and easier to use, and a slightly different UI. Think of it like a beta version which will become the main live version when it is ready." - bsag
Re: BSAG » NewsBlur - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"It's well worth checking out to see if it meets your needs. The free version allows you enough feeds (I can't quite remember how many off-hand and can't find the info) to evaluate it properly." - bsag
Re: TWSBI Diamond Mini and Ink Bottle - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"Oops! Sorry about that ;-)" - bsag
Re: TWSBI Diamond Mini and Ink Bottle - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"I don't know why, but I've never got on with converters. While I like using different inks, I have all my ink bottles at home and mostly use my pens at work. With converters, I would frequently find that when I came to use my pen, it was nearly empty, because I'd kept forgetting to fill it at home. With piston fillers, you have to fill much less often, so it doesn't happen as much." - bsag
Re: BSAG » Feed issues now sorted out - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"Hardly the best! I don't know quite what I'm doing with Atom, as I've amply demonstrated :-)" - bsag
Re: BSAG » Meeting hares by moonlight - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"You're quite right that it's easy to over-romanticise a place you don't live in: the grass is always greener, and all that. My Dad (a townie from South London) was evacuated to Norfolk during the war, and once told us that at harvest time, the evacuees were given guns and stationed around the last patch of crop to be cut, so that they could shoot the rabbits and hares that broke cover. They - being soft townies - deliberately missed the animals, but luckily the locals just thought that their aim was terrible." - bsag
Re: Caffè Interruptus - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"Because you already know that I don't have a life? ;-)" - bsag
Re: Caffè Interruptus - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"Oh yes, it's all about the coffee :-)" - bsag
"Ah yes, you're absolutely right, my mistake. It's jolly impressive 80gsm paper then!" - bsag
"I had an impression that the new dotGrid pads do use the 90 gsm paper, but I could be wrong. It certainly seems more than adequate for the ink/nib combinations I've tried it with." - bsag

"Very steampunk ;-)" - bsag
Re: Leaving Feedburner - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"Great. That's what I thought should happen, but I wanted to check. I actually seemed to gain some subscribers in the process, somehow. ;-)" - bsag
Re: Leaving Feedburner - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"What can I say, I'm so, so sorry :-)" - bsag
Re: Leaving Feedburner - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"One question I forgot to ask: I'm not really up to speed with .htaccess magic incantations, but if you set up the htaccess redirects as shown on your help page and you get Feedburner to permanently redirect, do you need to ask people to eventually switch the feed URL in their RSS readers, or should the reader see the redirect and switch it itself? The redirect is certainly working fine at the moment." - bsag
Re: Leaving Feedburner - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"Oh, yes, multiple backups are essential for anything digital. It feels ridiculous and redundant right up until the point when your computer gets stolen or you have a corrupted hard drive. Wait, we'll have stiffeners in our collars?" - bsag
Re: Leaving Feedburner - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"Thanks Maxime! Everything is working absolutely fine at the moment - great service!" - bsag
"I suspect that might be because they expect you to buy their stuff from distributors in lots of different countries. Cult Pens stock them. They're not the cheapest notepads/notebooks ever, but they are totally worth it in my opinion." - bsag
Re: Leaving Feedburner - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"Thank you! 1) This post was a kind of technological throat-clearing to update the feed and therefore test whether the feed had moved or not. As you say, it seems to have worked, though I'm not clear on whether the redirect will be permanent or not. Hey ho... 2) I'm very glad you enjoy traditional shaving. I'm still having fun with my DE razor. Mr. B and I got some Geo Trumper Rose shaving soap a little while back (in a rather nice wooden bowl), and we both love it. You'd think that the rose scent would be a bit girly, but it seems to work really well on both men and women. 3) Sorry about the 'So' thing. I can't unhear it now either, so I just seem to have spread the misery!" - bsag
Re: BSAG » App.net widget - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"You're welcome! By the way, I edited your email by altering one word, as I use my pseudonym here not my name. Hope that's OK!" - bsag
Re: Slate and Alfred 2 Workflows - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"Similar, but that uses Tagger to do the actually tagging instead of the OpenMeta command line utility. Either way, it works, just depends what you prefer." - bsag
"Fantastique! :-) It's the French narration that really makes it. My two occasionally have a rather embarrassing slappy fight like that, before it deteriorates into full-on wrestling with rabbit kicks to the head." - bsag
Re: The Return of the Ring - http://www.rousette.org.uk/blog...
"It was a real blow when he lost it. I'm so chuffed we've found it again." - bsag
