It's missing the box in the right margin that shows you the new stuff in reverse chronologic order. That's where my eye goes first. Suggests perhaps it should be the prime real estate and the ladder (which may not change much during the day) should be marginalized, or for me it could go away altogether, I almost never use it. These days I find the political TM interesting and the tech version really boring. Just FYI. - Dave Hussein Winer via Bookmarklet
Better yet, Google should create a TOOL whereby we can create our own TechMeme. Gabe has always said this is impossible but I do not believe it is. Then we could all iterate as much as we like till someone invents the 2.0 of this genre, which might lack some of the smarts of TM, which for me, isn't that smart (which is why it's so boring). - Dave Hussein Winer
There are three or four Mike Arringtons in the political space, people who just have to fart and their pieces go right to the top. Some of their stuff is so shallow and inane and petty (I still read it of course, otherwise how would I know). But the Algorith has lost all its mystique. - Dave Hussein Winer
Anyways -- tomorrow is a big day. Probably going to have more bank failures and the market will probably have another bad day and the House gets back in town but probably won't vote and then in the evening we Palin rears her head reminding us that a healty plurality of Americans thought she was the cats meow for about three weeks, thank god we had more than three weeks to make up our mind. And there's still a chance she pulls it out tomorrow and the last couple of weeks have been a masterful job of... - Dave Hussein Winer
...setting expectations lower than anyone ever has. There's reason to suspect that, having seen tapes of her Alaska debates, where she mopped the floor with her opposition. It's possible Biden might not see that coming? Nahhh, the Obama folk are super-smart and think of EVERYTHING. We hope. Goodnight everybody!! - Dave Hussein Winer
One more thing, FF should go all the way and turn this mofo into a blogging tool already. Geez. - Dave Hussein Winer

Main advantage of Google's solution is the fact that it features more than just tech news. - Dennis Laumen
any way of grabbing that data via one of the Google API's Dave? - Duncan Riley
I wish Google's solution had RSS feeds. I'm a big fan of the Techmeme firehose RSS feed. - Brian Sloane

Fu: Congrats! thanks for the info & I look forward to the new features. just a small but important point, you launched only in US English today :-) - Mel.Buckpitt
Brian, they seem to mention that RSS is not available yet so probably that means it will arrive at some point. But quite true - better sooner than later. - Svetlana Gladkova
dude. techmeme is not gonna get squashed by this change in blog search. It is a big improvement, but try using it. techmeme is much much better from a usability standpoint. google's advantage is in the sources it polls and potential traffic - Rodney Rumford
Considering I spend far too much time on Google Trends and blog search and next to 0 time on TM, this is already a done deal for me. It's more just icing on the cake. - Cyndy

McCain vs Obama Wordle Style
September 5 at 10:39 am - via Bookmarklet - Link
I took John MCain's acceptance speech from last night's Republican convention and compared it to Barack Obama's acceptance speech from the Democratic convention and made wordles of each. John McCain's wordle is on top, Barack Obama's is on bottom. Best viewed large here. - Thomas Hawk via Bookmarklet
Poli Sci 101 via Wordle. - Russellreno
What worries me is that the word 'freedom' isn't big enough to see in either one. - Jay Wiegmann
I thought the word I and me would show more prominently in McCain's wordle. Fight is clearly visible. - Russellreno
interesting to see a few prominent word differences. McCain: fight, government, world, make. Obama: promise, time, new. Also interesting, in keeping the Palin-Biden wordle comparisons, that the Democrats mention McCain a lot in their speeches by name but the Republican's rarely mention Obama by name at all. Both seem to mention country, America, and Americans alot. - Thomas Hawk
I could tell who's Wordle was who's as soon as I looked at it. - ☺ Cecily ☺
Obama is into McCain, but McCain is into Americans and the Country. hmm. Obama has America and American very large, but Americans is small? It just seems to me like Obama wants to tear us apart and McCain wants to fight for America. I know who Americans will vote for... not the guy who obviously hates them - AnotherⓃⓄⒶⒽ
I think it is interesting how prominent the word "promise" is in the Obama one. Is he doing a lot of criticizing of other's promises or is he making a lot of his own? - Kenton
@Kenton: Neither really. The usage was more in line with " indication of future excellence or achievement" - AJ Kohn
excellence in tearing the other guy apart because he wants to fight for America? no thanks Obama - AnotherⓃⓄⒶⒽ
looks like McCain doesn't make promises he can't keep - Zach Chisholm
Fight for *some* of America it seems. And not fight and win at all costs in Iraq and hey, step off Iran and Russia we got some for you too. No thanks. I'll fight to get our economy back (which is directly related to the war), and eduction, and health care and equal rights. Oh, I'll fight alright. - AJ Kohn
there's a 'war' inside Obama's 'promise' - Mister Groonk via twhirl

Leopard savaging a crocodile caught on camera - Telegraph

WOW! that's amazing...I've never heard of a big cat taking on a croc! - Susan Beebe
Whoa...kinda like the question we had as kids, "who would win in a fight, Superman or Batman?" Leopard got this one. - Hutch Carpenter
Quote from the article: "It just doesn't make sense. The meat you get out of a crocodile is just not worth the risk it takes a predator to acquire." LOL Ok, *you* tell that to the leopard. Clearly, this leopard has not been on the interwebs and keeping up-to-date on prey meat quality risk-to-reward ratios. I'll be rolling up the windows on the Range Rover. :-D - Karim
Two of my favorite animals. - James
poor hunting, Croc does not make a nice meal - Duncan Riley
Reminds me of a great quote from the early days of the Web, when the heat was between an upstart Netscape and a (then) predatory, monopolist Microsoft. The press quote, attributed to Marc Andreessen (but clearly originating from Jim Barksdale) was: "In a battle between the bear and the crocodile, victory is determined by on whose turf the fight is waged" or something like that. - John McCrea
Maybe it was not a hunt for the meal, but a precautionary kill. Leopard's morning strolls are 1 croc safer now. - Roland Hesz
john mccrea, works in afghanistan and iraq too - Gregory Lent
This looks like a revenge killing. Just as odd, if not more so, I know. Yet, that's what I see. Maybe it was a territorial thing. I would also expect, once you find yourself a leopard in a fight with a croc, you better go to the death because he will. - Michael W. May
Video or it didn't happen - Shey
Yeah MWM I agree. This is one of those things that if you (the leopard) start, you'd better finish, and fast. - Anthony Citrano
=O - Mona N. via fftogo
I think the croc is attacking the leopard with his back. - Barak B
You plan your day around, and mentally prepare for hippo activities AND THEN THIS HAPPENS! Sheesh. - Micah Wittman via twhirl
Barak: you reminded me of the Woody Allen line from Play It Again, Sam: "I snapped my chin onto a guy's fist, and then hit another guy in the knee with my nose." - Anthony Citrano
@Barak..LMFAO!!! That comment gave this pic a whole new meaning for me - RAHwsomeSHEENsauce™
