This is interesting but is it private or for all the world to see? I'd be interested in using this in conjunction with my blog site, but I'd probably want to limit respondents to those who are within my specific sphere. - Justin Long
Ah but you can't post answers to questions. I was thinking it would be something where people could post questions, could vote the answers up, and someone (e.g. a moderator) could post answers. - Justin Long

Fully agree. Google Reader combined with Gmail and my hacks are how I wrangle information. - Steve Rubel
I would love to know not just what some people are sharing, but what they actually subscribe to. That would be pretty interesting. - Shawn Farner
Completely agree. I would never know all of the information I know today if I had never used Google Reader. - Brian Sloane
So: what about combining the best features of Google Reader and Friendfeed into a single online app? With vastly amped up features for recommending personalized news, of course. - Sean McBride
not a fan of all-in-one apps for some reason. I like my feeds separated from my microstreams. it's probably why I'm not in love w FF and am merely in a platonic relationship. - Victor Ganata
Shawn, you can find that out on Toluu.com. Otherwise, I'm signed up to 300 science, health and cancer journals/blogs but doubt many others would be interested. - Sally Church
FriendFeed+Google Reader is perfect for me - Steve
I wish there was a middle ground between Star and Read items. I "read" everything, can't stand having unread email or posts (149 feeds, 4700+ items in last 30 days), and only Star the stuff I absolutely want to find in 10 seconds or less. I'd like a way to Like other things. - Chris Stevenson
Robert, I absolutely agree, shared items are a great way to learn. I have actually taken my subscriptions and made them a page on my blog (http://regulargeek.com/blog-ro...). - Rob Diana

I need to reconsider how I'm using Google Reader. I have been neglecting RSS for a while now because I've been spending so much time here. - Mark Wilson

Are there any feedly users who can comment on if that replaces their google reader use? - Sonya Smith
As a Google Reader newbie, what is it that makes Google Reader so much better than a regular RSS reader? I like NewFox, but if there are some "killer app" features of GR I'd switch. - Kenton
Kenton, GR is no more special than many other RSS readers, its just what you are familiar with. I use it (and Feedly) extensively, and echo Robert's endorsement of the concept making one smarter. That said, its the one I am most familiar with, its easy to use, and easy to share from a social perspective. The important thing is absorption of knowledge, and there are several tools that can help. Give it a try, you may be hooked too. - JodyUnwired
The key features of Reader that I don't believe any other feed reader has: (1) sharing, with notes (2) suggestions for feeds I might be interested (3) trend charting. - Victor Ganata
Same here. Google Reader has become my primary research tool for the industries I follow. - Glenn Batuyong
via twhirl
Robert, totally. I know some people were startign to think of FriendFeed as a replacement but it can never be. They are complimentary and GReader adds more to my knowledge than FF anyday. FF fulfills my need to know *now* but GReader fulfills my need for depth. - /(bb|[^b]{2})/ (Kamath)
have you tried Feedly? It's a FF extension which makes Greader even better... I highly recommend it - luca Filigheddu
Really, I think that if someday you could query google with your mind, I think that would probably be the best situation. Although, your friends may get tired of you spouting adwords when you answer their questions. - Trevor Lee
Google Reader makes me smarter too. But it also makes me [more] addicted to 'the internet' (rather than games). - TiTi
I use bith Feedly only after reading all important stuff in Google reader. - sirish

I took John MCain's acceptance speech from last night's Republican convention and compared it to Barack Obama's acceptance speech from the Democratic convention and made wordles of each. John McCain's wordle is on top, Barack Obama's is on bottom.

What worries me is that the word 'freedom' isn't big enough to see in either one. - Jay Wiegmann
I thought the word I and me would show more prominently in McCain's wordle. Fight is clearly visible. - Russellreno
interesting to see a few prominent word differences. McCain: fight, government, world, make. Obama: promise, time, new. Also interesting, in keeping the Palin-Biden wordle comparisons, that the Democrats mention McCain a lot in their speeches by name but the Republican's rarely mention Obama by name at all. Both seem to mention country, America, and Americans alot. - Thomas Hawk
I could tell who's Wordle was who's as soon as I looked at it. - ☺ Cecily ☺
Obama is into McCain, but McCain is into Americans and the Country. hmm. Obama has America and American very large, but Americans is small? It just seems to me like Obama wants to tear us apart and McCain wants to fight for America. I know who Americans will vote for... not the guy who obviously hates them - AnotherⓃⓄⒶⒽ
I think it is interesting how prominent the word "promise" is in the Obama one. Is he doing a lot of criticizing of other's promises or is he making a lot of his own? - Kenton
@Kenton: Neither really. The usage was more in line with " indication of future excellence or achievement" - AJ Kohn
excellence in tearing the other guy apart because he wants to fight for America? no thanks Obama - AnotherⓃⓄⒶⒽ
looks like McCain doesn't make promises he can't keep - Zach Chisholm
Fight for *some* of America it seems. And not fight and win at all costs in Iraq and hey, step off Iran and Russia we got some for you too. No thanks. I'll fight to get our economy back (which is directly related to the war), and eduction, and health care and equal rights. Oh, I'll fight alright. - AJ Kohn
Wait - didn't Obama win it last night? - George Smith
I agree - McCain has seized this election and destroyed Obama's ability to be the man of change or a Bush clone. Genius. - Ben Parr
McCain has certainly seized the media's attention. - karen2
All kidding aside - good pick by McCain. We'll have to see how she holds up to media scrutiny, in debates, and overall on the campaign trail. It takes a bit of bite out of Biden (he can't be too tough on her) and expectations are low - that being said, a lot of the women swing voters will be turned on by this. Can that manifest itself in votes - not only in numbers, but in the right states..... - George Smith
She doesn't hold up after 10 minutes of scrutiny. She's been in elected office for less than 3 years (far less than even Obama), and she allegedly used her power as governor to attempt to fire her brother-in-law, who was locked in a child custody dispute with her sister. When the public safety commissioner refused, she fired him: http://beta.friendfeed.com/e/e... - Mark Trapp
disagree. i think they just tossed one of their major platform pitches. the experience argument is now a wash. - Morgan
And what is this, 1930? Because she's a woman you can't be tough on her? Do you hear what that sounds like? - Mark Trapp
I just heard the opposite from down the hall at my office. Go figure. A good counterpoint to Biden, perhaps (outsider vs. insider, just like the top of the ticket) but I don't think it will swing women toward the Republicans, and might keep some folks away from the polls altogether. - steplow is Steve
I think this was a brilliant move by the GOP. Suddenly the Republican ticket is much more attractive to disenfranchised Hillary supporters who dream of a woman in the White House. - Andy Roth
Her 80% approvel rating says it all. McCain picked the only republican that is seen as more of a Mavrick than he is. He just turned this into a real horse race, Obama's lost his deathgrip on the Youth Vote. - Aram Zucker-Scharff

I wouldn't go that far just yet but he certainly guaranteed a good fight - Live4Soccer
"More of the same" I'm glad the republicans are coming out of the wood work on friendfeed now I know who I need to take off my subscription list - orionstarr
He seems to have just lost his readiness argument, selecting a 44 year old political novice as his #2. - Jason Goldberg
Mark, you don't know if she holds up yet. Wait for her to make her case today and at the convention before we say she can or can't do the job. - Ben Parr
I'll tell you who won with this morning's GOP news: Tina Fey - Stagekid
+1 jason - i agree completely. it also makes months of politicking seem completely insincere and hypocritical. - Morgan
Is that an 80% approval in Alaska--Alaska?!, where Ted "series of tubes" Stevens got re-elected, and probably would again despite the corruption? There's no way McCain can say Obama's not ready, and I doubt if any women who believe in equal rights, equal pay, and choice, will vote for McCain just to hope he'll die in office and a (conservative) woman will be president. - steplow is Steve
good to see a woman make the ticket. I like the fact that she's an outsider. I can't imagine that Hollywood has focused on buying her off in quite the same way that they have Biden. Don't know much about her yet but given that the VP choice is largely to shore up undecideds, seems like a smart move politically. - Thomas Hawk
Ha, I'm one of those moderate female swing voters and that's a horrible choice. If McCain did win and suddenly passed away, we're left with a first term Senator with less experience than Obama? He can't throw the inexperience tag anymore. - Sally Church
Because running Alaska is SOOOOO difficult - (that)Kenny
The election of blunders maybe. I mean, does anyone want Palin a heart beat away from the Presidency? Can you imagine her as Commander In Chief? I can with Romney, but Palin? No experience, ties to big oil and abuse of power. I don't get it. Tell me why this is a good choice. - AJ Kohn
Aram an 80% approval rating in a state that has how many people? stats can say waht you want them to say with a little help. - Ruth Ferguson
Running Alaska is a little more challenging than organizing a community in So. Chicago. - eggsy
which election is that? can I get an oil industry check to go with the drilling along my coast too? - Scott Moskowitz
What? McCain just took "experience" off the table as a campaign issue. He chose a nationally untested and unknown figure, from the most famously corrupt state in the union. The pandering for Clinton's supporters is transparent and obnoxious. She's probably a good pick given the choices - but to say he just won the election? Heck no. - Eric
Cause she is a woman? If that is your sole reason, that implies that she was chosen for her gender, not her skill. Her gender then becomes a novelty, a bumper sticker, a 'hey look what we can do' move. It implies anyone could do it, as long as they were female. I would find that a tad insulting. - John Worthington
@eggsy: I'm confused. Is this black guy running for president? http://www.dcpincorp.org/ Cause I thought the Democrats nominated Barack Obama. - (that)Kenny

It sounds great for power users. I was also imagining a sidebar type app that would be suggesting things to do with stuff. Select an address and it would pop up a map and give you the option to email it. This way no need for new users to know text commands or have to think what might be the word to use. - John Cooper
Sidebar is a great idea...also "chaining" commands. What if i want to tinyurl something (or two) and insert into a twit (or email..). Also if you don't use gmail (gasp), launching the OS native URL handlers like mailto:. - Richard Goodwin

Reminds me of a great quote from the early days of the Web, when the heat was between an upstart Netscape and a (then) predatory, monopolist Microsoft. The press quote, attributed to Marc Andreessen (but clearly originating from Jim Barksdale) was: "In a battle between the bear and the crocodile, victory is determined by on whose turf the fight is waged" or something like that. - John McCrea
Maybe it was not a hunt for the meal, but a precautionary kill. Leopard's morning strolls are 1 croc safer now. - Roland Hesz

This looks like a revenge killing. Just as odd, if not more so, I know. Yet, that's what I see. Maybe it was a territorial thing. I would also expect, once you find yourself a leopard in a fight with a croc, you better go to the death because he will. - Michael W. May
