Re: I Asked 55 Startups About Their Digital Marketing… - http://www.profoundry.co/startup...
"As a startup marketing consultant, the results reflect the reality of what startups think about marketing. They tend to think it's an evil necessity or nice-to-have, rather than something that helps drive the growth and success of their business. I think a key part is a lack of knowledge about how marketing works - strategically and tactically. They're smart people, but marketing is not something they know a lot about. As a result, I don't believe it's highly valued. It explains why so many startups believe they can do marketing themselves, rather than hire a third-party to help them. Great initiative, by the way, to do the survey!" - Mark Evans

Re: Launch Your Startup in 22 Steps (Checklist + Resources) - https://www.wrike.com/blog...
"That's a good checklist. I would suggest crafting your startup's story is a key ingredient because it sets the stage for a lot of other activity: marketing, sales, financing and hiring. The ability to talk to different target audiences in a clear and well-articulated way is powerful and necessary. This is a topic covered in a book that I recently published, Storytelling for Startups (www.storytellingforstartups.ca)" - Mark Evans

Re: Why marketers need to tell better stories - http://strategyonline.ca/2015...
"IMHO, storytelling is poised to become the next "hot" marketing tool because it is how brands will connect with time-stapped, information over-loaded consumers. As humans, we're wired for storytelling and how it drives emotional responses - and we make many buying decisions based on emotions. I recently published a book, Storytelling for Startups, that provides entrepreneurs with strategic and tactical guidance to embrace the power of story-driven marketing - www.storytellingforstartups.ca" - Mark Evans

"Instead of Rapportive, which has been neutered since being acquired by LinkedIn, I'm not using Full Contact. A free and good alternative to Sidekick is Streak for Gmail, a CRM app that includes email tracking." - Mark Evans

Re: Focus Your Startup Marketing on the Mind, not the Product - http://startupmanagement.org/2015...
"This approach is so straightforward that you wonder why many startups are still fascinated with product. My take is entrepreneurs fall in love with their products and how they are developed. The downside is they become myopic and, as a result, lose sight of the person who actually uses it. It's a challenge but entrepreneurs need to put themselves in their customers' shoes." - Mark Evans

Re: If you commit to nothing, you’ll be distracted by everything - http://gotomarketguy.com/if-you-...
"Totally agree that focus so value. In working with startups, the big lesson that I discovered is that less is more. The less I do, the more success I have. It seems counter-intuitive for someone who likes to get stuff done, but it is easier to tactically execute when there is less for everyone to focus on." - Mark Evans
