This is important. I for one tend to forget the tireless IT department of the BBC. is the iPhone next? - Roberto Bonini
It already works with the iPhone .... just browse to bbc.co.uk/mobile/iplayer - Peter Cattell
You sure, peter? I just tried with my iTouch. - Roberto Bonini
It will only work in the UK I think but it should work with the iPhone - John Cooper
@Roberto... absolutely..I have my iPhone here, and tried it again to be sure. I dont know where you are but maybe it will only work in the UK??? - Peter Cattell
The first mobile device that iPlayer supported was the iPhone/iPod Touch back in March - and if you search back then there was a good deal of debate about them having chosen them to support first. Limitations are that it will only allow you to watch TV content over a wi-fi connection, not over 3G, they also don't convert all the programmes over to the iPhone/iPod Touch format. For those outside the UK, TV content on the iPlayer is limited to the UK - most radio can be accessed abroad though. - Richard Peat
I am in the Uk- Scotand. Anyone have any sucess with the iPod Touch? - Roberto Bonini
yeah, when you can get the program - it works wonderfully - Zee from WeDoCreative
that's on the iphone btw - Zee from WeDoCreative
Ahh Right. Got it working now. Went to bbc.co.uk/iplayer and it redirected me. thanks for all your help guys. - Roberto Bonini
Works wonderfully. Watching Have I Got News For You. Funny. - Roberto Bonini
It blew my collegues at work away when I showed them an episode of Top Gear in the office ... the quality is exceptional - Peter Cattell
Yeah, I was really impressed with the iPod Touch/iPhone version when it first came out. I took a couple of pictures of the quality when I blogged about it back then. http://tinyurl.com/5gqbof Incidentally, a side effect of the way it is implemented with quicktime rather than running in the browser also means that if you have a video cable the iPod Touch/iPhone can show the picture on a normal TV. - Richard Peat
The quality is unbelivable. Pity we cant buy/rent/save the shows. - Roberto Bonini
Put iPlayer Downloader into Google... - Richard Peat
Thanks Richard. - Roberto Bonini

“My son turns one in 8 days, so why does it seem he is already in the terrible two's?”
August 8 at 1:22 am - via Ping.fm - Link
Man, its passes.. comes and goes... My little girl is 2 years and 3 months and she is going through them. She gives us headaces sometimes but it's the little moments inbetween that keep you powering through. Her new thing is taking me by the hand and dragging me off into far flung coners of the house for no other reason than she wants to walk with me,,, it's a cliche I know but Cherish... - John Worthington
My son is a month behind you. Some days he's a little angel that brings us great joy. Other days he's teething. Enough said. :-) - Robert Scoble
Wait to you get to growth spurts... :) - John Worthington
2^3 = 8 - weblivz via twhirl
Oops, wrong coment!! My daughter is 1 also - she is the same. Kids are aging quickly these days :) - weblivz via twhirl
My first son turns 2 (years) in November... and my second one turns 2 (months) in August! It's not easy, in particular for mom, but you get many fantastic moments. - luca Filigheddu
Having 3 kids, I can tell you 2 things about the terrible twos: 1) they last from around 18 months to 42 months and 2) each successive child is worse. And pregnancy, when all is said and done is actually 10 months. - Sergio Cruz
Everyone will tell you they grow out o it, and "oh well, you are passed the worst" ... don't believe them... the terrible twos are replaced by the horrible 3s and then the dreadful fours..... it carries on into teenage... as long as you know the problems don't disappear, they just change, you will be fine :) - Peter Cattell
My son just turned three, and he seems to have forgotten to leave the terrible two's behind. :) - Sean Brady
OH, I know exactly what you mean!!! Hang in there. - Brad Nickel
It's the terrible three's you'll have to worry about - Shey
What Shey said. Two is NOTHING compared to three. - Cyndy
We raised 8 ... yup, eight and while they were / are definitely challenges, it was absolutely the most meaningful and worthwhile thing we've done in our lives. If you want to build a legacy, build it by shaping the little ones entrusted to your care into who they're meant to be ... check out somebody like Ray Guarendi (drray.com) for some useful ideas. - Bob Lozano
Yeah, threes are worse. But they're also a LOT more interesting. It's sometimes, but not not always true that each successive child is worse -- I think that depends on temperament and circumstance just as much as birth order. Just remember that your kid is doing what kids do. He HAS to. Childhood is tough. Your job is to try not to make his life any tougher than necessary. That's my philosophy anyhow. - Nathan Rein
AW! YAY!! ...can i come over for some cake? kthxbai - Mona N.
it's not so much the two's you have to worry about, it's the early three's. my oldest son is 4 and he's a ton of fun now. he still has his moments but that's life. enjoy it while it lasts though, it goes very quickly! - acedanger
I just keep thinking, "Man, he is quick, he is smart, he can destroy the whole house in minutes...what's going to happen when he's walking?" - Rah™
What Shey & Cyndy said. Threes are actually the age that should be called terrible. They have opinions! And they can voice them! Ack. ;-) - Lisa L. Seifert
Aw, nathan. :-) - Lisa L. Seifert
Walking is nothing. Wait till he figures out how to climb. - saeba
@saeba I'm afraid he will start doing both simultaneously. He watches his brother carefully and already tries to climb onto furniture. The boy has no fear. - Rah™
my son turns 20 in a few weeks ....sems not v diff from terrible 2's ....it just evolves every five years I guess !! - viki saigal

Jake we got in the first group. I am in the store right now. - Robert Scoble
Guess all us folks on the East Coast clogged up their systems before you even got in the door - Lois Gray
That's because they force you to activate on site. Sounds like a situation begging for a lawsuit. If I buy a phone I buy a phone. Why should I be forced to activate on site just because Apple and ATT want to fight the gray market? I call that collusion in treating customers as shit. - Paul "Maverick" Denlinger

the message for the 2.0 upgrade showed up in my iTunes after I did a sync this morning. I ran the process and after about 30 minutes it failed putting the iphone into recovery mode. it says to restore, but it is trying to restore 1.1.4. I saw a message earlier in the process saying that it was upgrading the firmware so it seems odd that it would try to put 1.1.4 back on the iphone. anyway, my attempts to restore give me a error 20, unknown error, each time. i now have a pretty brick.... - Mark Heringer

I'm hearing that at some AT&T stores, they are letting customers take the phone home to activate, as the whole system is down..worldwide! - Peter Cattell
Robert, I just saw an article on cnet news about you on the apple store! http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023... - George The Writer
In the UK this lunch time, all systems were down so they were letting customers take the phone away without completing a credit check, without allocating a phone number and without activating the SIM cards. And it still took around 15-20 minutes per person. So I've got one but it's not working yet... - Tony Ruscoe
The husband has been waiting now for almost 4 hours. - Cyndy
The boss waited for about 6 hours since about 2 this morning up in MI. But, he was one of the first people in and out. - Candace Holly
Here in Sheffield (UK) we queued for 20 minutes this morning and were then told all O2 stores were understocked. And then we found out one of the stores in town got some more stock at lunch time so we walked straight in and waited in the six-person queue for just 20 minutes. I guess we're super lucky in the UK (for a change). - Tony Ruscoe
Over here, first person activation took 38 minutes. He's outside now doing a TV interview. - Glenn Batuyong

I only care about the 2.0 software, the hardware and 3G coverage isn't enough for me to upgrade the phone and to spend more money. I've been loving the apps over the past 24 hours <3 <3. - Eric Rice
Two hours in line and then three in the store to get 3G in Columbus. And of course it still isn't activated. OTO I can complain about it here with the wifi on my old phone. - Tom Landini
Got my UK Iphone by lunchtime UK via courier delivery (it took until lunchtime due to a rather slow delivery :( - but all was well and activated with no problems... havent fully road tested it yet - on the face of it it isnt a radical change from Iphone 1.0 to Iphone 3G but I keep finding nice little changes and I have activated MobileMe so we will see what that will offer.. - David W

I would advise against upgrading at the moment.... at the end of the process, iTunes has to contact some activation servers, and I think these servers are melting!! The Apple support forum is alive with guys saying they have a bricked iPhone!!! I think it will be OK when things have calmed down! - Peter Cattell
WTF?! ITunes keeps switching messages now: now 1.1.4 is up to date.. - Tibor Paulsch via twhirl
I now have a brick. At the end of the update process I got an unspecified iTunes error. Not only do I not have a 2.0 iPhone. I don't have a phone of any sort. - Howard Keziah
You need to update iTunes to version 7.7 to get the new firmware. - Dan MacTough

I love the way I feel so supported by Apple. What the fuck am I supposed to do now? This is a phone. I pay real money for the thing. What's the plan APPPPPPLE? Hello. No I don't feel like waiting on hold, uhhh, and I don't have a fucking phone to call you with if I did. - Dave Hussein Winer
Looks like the upgrade worked, but the Activation servers are getting hammered. That's where the process is falling down and there's no excuse. Apple should have learned from the first launch. Ugh. Glad I did this yesterday. - Kevin C. Tofel
Ouch. Big bad mark for Apple on the 2.0 launch. I feel bad for the folks who bricked themselves in pursuit of bragging rights. I was just one error message and a dozen warning tweets from having a brick myself. Try a Summize search on "iPhone activation" for current news. - Michael Hussein Markman

grazr sucks, we get it - Tyler Gillies
Robert: I bet some use of other services APIs that provide XMPP and sms will do the trick, the base thing is already here :) - directeur
i think XMPP or at least some sort of IM service is very important in a "2.0" service. SMS not so much. i don't really like that, but then again i don't have a qwerty phone so thats probably why - Tyler Gillies
Excellent comment. Top-notch production from his brain. - possible248
Tyler: there are millions of people who can only communicate with other people via SMS or voice. Think about that market. And, yes, Grazr sucks and we all knew it because none of us were using it, but I was trying to explain why we weren't using it so they could improve and eventually have the same problems that Twitter's having right now. - Robert Scoble
A very simple, clear and (IMHO) accurate reflection on whats going on over at Twitter... after trying to launch a Unified Communications platform for 2 years with almost no take up, having too many users is definitely preferable - Peter Cattell
@robert good point. what do you mean some people can only communicate via SMS? meaning they're on their phone the majority of the time? Don't phones support IM? - Tyler Gillies
Seems obvious to me, but a different perspective nonetheless. Systems are supposed to be built with the user in mind. This includes adoption as well as load and performance. His comment highlights a golden principle: proper planning definitely helps with implementing a system, but contingency plans are even more important for unexpected issues. From my comfy chair, it seems like Twitter had very little contingency in mind from the outset. My $0.02. - Bwana McCall
Tyler: Series 60 Nokia phones suck for Web usage. You really need to sit next to a teenager who texts all the time. There are hundreds of millions of people who have series 60 phones. You think the millions who get a new phone every month in China are getting Blackberries or iPhones? Um, no. - Robert Scoble
I land on Grazr frontpage and what do I see, this post at the top of the list :) Maybe soon, the page will start moving! - AKs
wow robert, w/ friends like you etc... the guy leaves a thoughtful comment on the difference between launching a startup & building for scale re: twitter & you leverage that into a rant about the shortcomings of his company's offering - his comment was excellent - i'm all for constructive criticism, but why did he deserve your backhanded compliment howitzer pointed at him like that? - mike "glemak" dunn
Bwana: Twitter's team is the first to admit that now. They had four developers, none of whom had built a system with serious loads before. Now they have a different team with different skills and they'll solve the problem. If they fix it before a legitimate competitor comes along and does it better then they'll be just fine. Who could compete with Twitter? FriendFeed. Microsoft? Google? Facebook? But the only one I see users getting even somewhat excited about as a Twitter competitor is FriendFeed. - Robert Scoble
@Tyler: Not everywhere... Here I don't have IM in my phone and noone does :( See? I'm not american or european, or asian... - directeur
problem is that FriendFeed's founders, on Gillmor Gang on Friday, said they had no interest in cloning Twitter's features. So, Twitter is safe until someone like Microsoft or Google figure it out. - Robert Scoble
And if they were interested or planned to do you think they would have told you? - Brian Sullivan
"Twitter is safe until someone like Microsoft or Google figure it out" ? Isn't Jaiku almost the same thing? - directeur
@brian, probably - Tyler Gillies
>why did he deserve your backhanded compliment howitzer pointed at him like that? Because I think other entrepreneurs can learn from him about why he didn't get what he wanted, which was clearly a successful business. He can learn from it too. - Robert Scoble
Directeur: >Isn't Jaiku almost the same thing? Very close. But their UI and experience sucks. It's slow, and not easy to use like FF is. - Robert Scoble
Robert, the real competitor to Twitter would be one that is able to absorb it's user base. Jaiku and Pownce have the features, but not the community. I don't think it'll take a huge player like Microsoft or Google to do that. Who could have predicted Twitter's impact from a side project at Odeo? :) I'm still taking the position that FriendFeed currently compliments Twitter and I don't think it could replace it. I do believe Jaiku and Pownce are going to benefit from months of fail whale. - Bwana McCall
Robert: By UI, you mean their web-UI ? (I like it myself :) ) but aren't you mostly using twitter with IM? - directeur
@robert i think jaikus UI is sexy, it could stand to be faster though, and maybe have DM. but hey its still sleeping. When android comes out, i think it will be a different story. - Tyler Gillies
Scoble, What kind of cam is that in your pic? My guess is a XHA1, G1... - Anthony
Anthony: that's a Sony. I forget the model number. We're now using Panasonics. - Robert Scoble
thanks for the reply, appreciate it...I asked you on your blog as well, so ignore that...any reason you prefer the sony/panasonic...i ask cux i am now using an XHa1 wit a fixed lens - Anthony
Bwana: Thanks! I just remembered to delete my Pownce account ;-) - directeur
Robert, after reading the post, I'm perplexed by your decision to title the post in such a misleading way, the post isn't about the great twitter architecture comment it's about you ripping Grazr to shreds. I'm sure you're points are valid, but it seems bad form to mislabel your own post so egregiously. What were your intentions? - Jennifer Van Grove
Jennifer: the whole point is that the market already ripped Grazr to shreds. The CTO admitted such and said that he'd rather have Twitter's problems than a perfect architecture. I was trying to help the CTO out by letting him know why his service didn't take o
