To the title: yes. To the question "is a site worth a phone?": no - but the android-clone-distro war hasn't started yet - and *an OS* could be a good reason to choose a phone (not a *additional* one. *The* one). Even today each Linux distro got its own "ambience" and "folklore": default/additional app selection, GUI themes, preinstalled bookmarks, etc. Mix greed, gadgets and hype into this and you've got Balloon 3.0

Yeppers! I suffer from a terminal addiction to social networks. I just can't get enough, so I think I'll join 190 of them. Nineteen down so far - 171 more to go!

I really should be working right now.
- Carolyn Chan
only when i am not working, i.e. slightly idle or bored. Which never happens when I am on a job
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
No. I do plenty of things without connected to the network. Hell, I even wander through the woods where I have no cellphone reception. Maybe that's the reason why I'm not so "famous" on the net. Do you have to be addicted to get your place there?

Here are my thoughts... oh wait. Here comes my boss. Whoa, false alarm. She went the other way. Oh crap! She's coming back this w

We should expect to see more consolidation as the economy tanks :)
- Bukola
congrat's ripple6 folks & bukola, its more about empowering them than consolidating, at least that's what this one looks like - in general terms though yes declining economy is when mergers and being acquired looks better than going into shutdown mode

Amen, hallelujah, and thank you. I commented @ the blog but this is the week that I've set aside to "follow Jeremiah on FF" so wanted to weigh in here, too.
- Todd Defren
There goes Jeremiah trying to throw logic and reason into an argument. How dare he!

Before embarking on a new launch, and to better inform PR efforts, I'm a big fan of Listening Campaigns. Do you have a perspective on Radian6, the social media monitoring tool that Dell just started using? Currently we engage a 3rd party, but obviously costs are high -- because I like the human-read on analytics...

What is the historic track ?-- my guess is your 5% is in the right range. Stretch it to 3 or 4 years and it is a virtual certainty.
- Brian Sullivan
While some of the ideas are cool I don't think a large majority will be able to monetize their businesses. And since many of these start-ups are in Silicon Valley I expect them to go through their money like toilet paper. This is just a guess. After 2 yrs: 25 to 30 percent. After 5 years: 10 percent.

One thing for sure, Ashton's wont be, well presuming that Demi will eventually cut off the free money

Asked about it, but never actually tried to have any books banned. Getting really tired of this story, actually. And no, I'm not a Republican.

"social media" == excuse to not take your craft seriously, or make yourself sound more important than you are. media is media is media.
- Andrew Feinberg
you've really been hyper-critical lately, Andrew. Social media is a term for electronic media that is distributed in and used in social ways. If media is media is media, then I'm sure you won't mind if we communicate exclusively through homing pigeon in the future.
- Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
hey! I gave mashable the exclusive on my homing pigeon startup! We're still in alpha! You're right, I've been a bit crabby. But I've always disliked the term "social media," because 1) it's so all-encompassing and 2) it's too easy for people to not take something seriously when it's "social" media. Yeah, it's totally semantics, but the good things happening online are too often drowned out by the crap that pulls itself under the "social media" label and ruins it for everyone.
- Andrew Feinberg
I'm a huge fan of social media but the applications are evolving an still unknown. What is know is that social media gives rise to new voices and a content production system. Unfortunetly the noise is high. Expect infrastructure advances to create filters or news way to make it easier to separate the noise from the signal and in turn provide user value
- John Furrier
Social media is like a spagetti sauce first you need the right ingredients then you need to put them together then cook it..it's in the recipe and the implementation
