Bwana: No, Pat said "unread" would "defeat the point". For me, there are some filters I have defined and will define where I want to make sure I catch every match. Not just the ones that happen to flow by while I'm staring at the site. Some sort of read/unread status is pretty much essential to satisfy that requirement. - Ken Sheppardson

Sorry, I was being vague and sarcastic. I don't think there's a single, universal "point" to how these services must or should be used. The trick is to make them simple enough for everyone to use productively, but complex enough that you can adapt them in a way that makes you more efficient. There's no single "right" way to use or view systems like this if they're built properly, IMHO. - Ken Sheppardson
