I hope somebody else builds a little filter builder, maybe like the MS Outlook Rule Wizard, before I get a chance to... It could just generate FF search links, which you could subsequently save as filters from the results page.
- Ken Sheppardson
Seriously, I think FF should have made Filters realtime instead of the main site. initially
- Bwana ☠
Yes, seems quite important to have realtime filters.
- Pat Hawks
Bwana: The trick is to just use the operators in the search box, then use the "(make a filter)" link that's on the header of the results list.

now it would be really great to have all of these filters with numbers of "unread" beside them
- Nathan Chase
Unread? This isn't email. That would kind of defeat the point.
- Pat Hawks
Is there some official statement of what the point is somewhere?
- Ken Sheppardson
Bwana: No, Pat said "unread" would "defeat the point". For me, there are some filters I have defined and will define where I want to make sure I catch every match. Not just the ones that happen to flow by while I'm staring at the site. Some sort of read/unread status is pretty much essential to satisfy that requirement.
- Ken Sheppardson
no, i think ken means of the friendfeed redesign? and i agree. I'd like to now see the presentation of and the reasoning behind the changes.
- edythe
Ah I see. Once filters go realtime, I think they should update with a counter of new items
- Bwana ☠
Sorry, I was being vague and sarcastic. I don't think there's a single, universal "point" to how these services must or should be used. The trick is to make them simple enough for everyone to use productively, but complex enough that you can adapt them in a way that makes you more efficient. There's no single "right" way to use or view systems like this if they're built properly, IMHO.
- Ken Sheppardson
Cool, I've made a video on my thoughts on the beta and discuss some of these filters... hopefully, it'll be up tonight. I want to do a full blown blog post on these filters as well to make it crystal clear.

Nice. With the comment/like criteria it's *much* less overwhelming

I'm going to compile a lot of these for a blog post and refer to this thread... I think it'll help a lot of new users get their feet wet in FriendFeed
