I use it all the time as my book marking system, the pay off for the writer is about 300 people go to their site, at least those that share their stats off my stumbling of their web sites. Nice pay off, good entry, at least somewhat of a reward.

You can piece together my tracks by my Google Reader shared items and my Toluu account: 99.5% of the stuff I share via Bookmarklet are found from reading my feeds. I read about 500 to 750 items a day, share about 5% of that, and bookmarklet 1-2%. In this case, Neatorama.com had a story about this, and I dug down to the original source it quoted.

Yes I can get why FriendFeed, and the FriendFeed/Twitter hybrid that twhirl provides is extremely addictive. Now that the UI doesn't freak me out any longer, I can get comfortable here. I think the big thing is the reduction of friction in moving around among our social presences and those we follow. It could be better, but it is already tantalizing.

Hey just what I need, another feed aggreagtor. What would be more useful is one site where I could keep all this info up to date then have people put their twists on it. For instance Swurl could have just taken my list from Friendfeed to create my page and I would have one less thing to maintain.

One thing I'm not diggin is the increasing lack of undo that I'm finding here and there. Swurl is one place. indenti.ca another. Typos are also a drag where they can't be edited. FriendFeed is nice this way. I can edit. Blogs aren't much of a problem. Microblogs like Twitter and indenti.ca and an aggregator like Swurl are however.

Louis - why not just get hands free? while i have also seen studies that show handsfree and handheld drivers have similar accident rates, I am pretty sure that expending effort and attention on hiding your activities will definitely lead to a higher accident rate than both.

Hmmm, they were talking about this on BBC Radio 2 the other day. i make sure that i don't answer my phone while driving, i think it's completely dangerous. Same with people smoking while driving, or those annoying people that pay more attention to playing with their radios than they do to how close they are to your rear bumper.

Don't know about elsewhere but here in Ireland it's the law that you need hands-free to talk on mob. while driving. You get penalty points if you're caught driving with a handset (=++insurance costs). That said, we're living through some weird 'nanny state',big-brother phase of government here.

I guess safer in the sense that you are safer with two hands that can react instead of 1 but the point is you are still on the phone. You're mind is paying attention to something other than the road. I'd rather be able to see that the guy in front of me is on the phone.

What people seem to forget here is when you end up in a dangerous traffic situation, because you were calling in your car, and every millisecond counts, it must be an advantage not having a phone in one of your hands while you try saving your and possibly your passengers life.

I think we are past this. Dwelling on using the phone to speak. I know within the last month I have had a texter almost run me off the road and a car go into oncoming traffic switching the channels on his in car TV. We've had it for years. Problem is that most of the Bluetooth headsets are either too expensive or too hard to use with glasses. Of course, they apparently haven't outlawed TEXTING while driving, which I see all the time.

If you weren't in a two-ton piece of death metal, then this wouldn't be a problem. But despite how 'easy' it seems to drive, it's dangerous and more so when you're driving or not able to quickly use both hands. That counts for talking, texting etc. If these people simply killed themselves with stupidly that would be one thing - but they kill others, so I'm fine with the law.

While there is increased danger due to *talking* on the cell, whether your hands are free has no effect. This is what studies consistently find. In common-sense terms: driving consumes *a lot* of your brain's resources -- your entire visual processing system, for example -- but makes very little use of your second hand.

Between having both hands on the wheel, or at least available for the wheel, as well as the ability to use directionals, I would say it's got to be somewhat safer. Granted, people will still get caught up in the conversation and "blank out" some of what's going on around them, but I can't tell you how many times I've been cut off by someone not using a turn signal, only to find out they were yapping away and couldn't be bothered to put the phone down to look and signal.

There's a review article by Mccartt et al "Cell Phones and Driving: Review of Research" Traffic Injury Prevention 2006: 7(2) 89-106. http://www.informaworld.com/smpp... Apparently the results are mixed, although the majority of the studies done all show there is no difference–hands-free is just as dangerous as hand-held. I figure it's an enforcement thing. There's no way to do a complete ban.

@Matthias I wonder if someone has created a tool that takes your own FF posts and makes a tweet from it? You'd need to turn off tweets in FF otherwise there would be a feedback loop that would eventually destroy the universe.

it's both right now - if you have group of people in Twitter then it is both - otherwise the conversation is moving more into friendfeed on a greater range of topics so for those not so tied to twitter it is twitter or friendfeed

Its neither - it's what fits your structure and how you want to connect. If you want actual conversations and build on relationpships, IMO, Plurk is good at that. FF seems too cluttered but aggregates a lot information together. Twitter is still good for me and is a great broadcast tool, some communication, and a lot of industry heads that you can learn from.

My other concern is that Twitter just doesn't have the expertise up high to make it a successful service. You will see the FF founders frequently engaged in conversations about FF on their service. I have yet to see a single Twitter founder engage in any of the critiques or compliments about their service on Twitter.
