"Lifestream displays your social feeds and photos much like you would see it on many of the social networking sites." - ~C4Chaos from Bookmarklet
This plugin was just upgraded. It adds services and really improves the backend. There's also a daily digest option. Still no RSS feed, but coming right along. I've playing with it here: http://chrisbaskind.com/lifestr... - Chris Baskind
I'm trying to understand why I might use this instead of just embedding FriendFeed - Rahsheen ™, Coach of FF
looks cool on your site, Chris! i'm planning of creating a page like that for my site too. - ~C4Chaos
Rahsheen, nice touch on your home-brewed FF status :) - ~C4Chaos
i just installed the Lifestream plugin and i'm really loving it. check it: http://www.c4chaos.com/hyperst... i like the grouping and aggregation (e.g. the "show details"). however, i'm still leaning towards using FF because of it's social aspect, e.g. insightful comments from my FF network. hmmm. - ~C4Chaos
hmm - not getting a very warm feeling - looks like a static table of contents, rather than an invitation to look deeper, to join in something... - Christopher Galtenberg
i know. i think it's because i haven't taken the time to tweak the CSS. but the biggest aspect that's missing is the social aspect (e.g. likes, comments on FF). that's why i'm leaning towards using FF instead. in any case, the Lifestreaming WP plugin is very functional, well-done, and promising. - ~C4Chaos
nice... yeah, I agree, it's Comments & Likes, simple things, that make this just so perfect - best of luck with the test drive! - Christopher Galtenberg
I think self-hosted lifestreams are interesting. They're not a replacement for what we do on FF -- no social component. But I can see solutions like this growing into something really cool. - Chris Baskind
ok. i just switched my (hyper)stream page to use FF. i like the simplicity and the social aspect - http://www.c4chaos.com/hyperst... if only i can have more control on the aggregation presentation (e.g. by date, collapsing tweets, etc.)... for now though, the FF version is much more interesting to look at because there is more serendipity on the page, e.g. other cool members on FF. hmm. one issue i have with FF is that the "more" link doesn't take you to the permalink of the FF entry. bad linking. - ~C4Chaos
maybe Lifestream works better as a sidebar, to other content like your blog... still, FF isn't that heavy/wide... dunno! - Christopher Galtenberg
all in all i think it depends on the primary intention of the user. for example, self-hosted lifestreams work best if the user is more focused on building a personal aggregated online presence (e.g. for purposes of personal branding, online resume, etc.). but if the primary intention is to *connect* with other "lifestreamers" elsewhere, then FF (or similar) services is the way to go. - ~C4Chaos
@ Chris G, yes, makes sense to me. that's why i have two FF implementations. for my main page i use it as a "sidebar" but i put it below because i prefer to have more focus on my latest posts (e.g. don't want readers getting distracted by links on the sidebar). the other implementation is pure streaming. hence, i created a separate (hyper)stream page :) - ~C4Chaos
