"Surely if you do anything other than mildly edit the trending topics list (ie group related topics, remove spam) then the list isn't really trending topics. The users will begin complaining about the curation, as they did with the suggested user list. Perhaps trending topics would be more relevant if it were created from your connections but it would make the twitter community a little more insular. I thought social media was supposed to be about expanding your community."
