"I don't trust Obama," [Gayle Quinnell, 75, of Shakopee] said. "I have read about him. He's an Arab." ... "No, ma'am," McCain said several times, shaking his head in disagreement.... - Anthony Citrano
what's a crazier theory: that the lady was a Democratic plant or a Republican plant? - Anthony Citrano
I can't laugh at it. I am so f'ing worried about the future. - Christopher Sacca
I believe this quote from the article says it all. "Sen. John McCain, Gov. Sarah Palin and the leadership of the Republican party have a fundamental moral responsibility to denounce the violent rhetoric that has pervaded recent McCain and Palin political rallies. When rally attendees shout out such attacks as "terrorist" or "kill him" about Sen. Barack Obama, when they are cheered on by crowds incited by McCain-Palin rhetoric -- it is chilling that McCain and Palin do nothing to object." - Jeff P. Henderson
Well, to his credit, the things he said tonight were the right things.. but it's way too little, way too late.. and seems like just another symptom of an erratic campaign. I mean he's basically fighting with the very forces they decided to whip up over the past couple of weeks. - Anthony Citrano
Being half arabic, I dont know how I feel about the statement "he's an Arab" in context with not trusting him and denouncing his character. Shows where we STILL are. - ☛ Adam Helweh ☚
@Adam - totally agree with you. It bugs me in this context AND in the context of "Muslim" as well. - Anthony Citrano
Props to McCain for doing the right thing. In this townhall format, you don't know what you're getting. - Rodfather
dude walked straight into a klan rally or something. shameful lynchmob type mentalities, which were promoted by the mccain campaign in the first place. - Cee Bee
@Rod: yep, for a second there I thought I saw a glimpse of the guy who ran for President in 2000... - Anthony Citrano
My husband is convinced that woman who made the 'arab' statement was a plant. That's not to say that people like this don't exist, but if the whole point of this rally was to try to turn McCain's image around, it would make sense that he would take such a question so it would present the perfect photo op when he took the microphone away from the woman -- an opportunity that the media lapped up like a cat with cream. - ☺ Cecily ☺
And yeah, I'm just that cynical when it comes to McCain. - ☺ Cecily ☺
Having seen footage of folks at his other rallies, I can't imagine why they would need to plant someone to say something stupid. And, to be frank, McCain's campaign hasn't shown that kind of savvy in the past 6 months. And, it sounds like McCain as his most genuine. I, too, remember the pre-2004 McCain. - Jason Toney
@Jason I was just being funny re: plant. (Looks like Cecily's serious, tho.) To McCain's "evolution" I'd place it a bit earlier, just after 9-11 and Bush/Cheney's associated consolidation of power. I was actually pretty enthusiastic about the guy in early '00. - Anthony Citrano
I wish I could get into my google analytics. When I log in, it asks me to 'Sign Up for Google Analytics', but I already did that. I don't see a menu of accounts at the top right. Using Safari. - Steve Garfield

"Frida found a way of painting pain – of permitting us to see pain and in so doing, reflecting the pain of the world. … She is a figure that represents the conquest of adversity, that represents how – against hell and high water – a person is able to make their life and reinvent themselves and make that life be personally fulfilling... Frida Kahlo in that sense is a symbol of hope, of power, of empowerment, for a variety of sectors of our population who are undergoing adverse conditions." -Carlos Fuentes - Anna Haro
makes me think of Salma Hayek, which she makes me think of South Park which makes me think of Primus which makes me think of buying a fretless bass soon. - Josh Haley
God, she is awesome. Frida didn't F around. - Ayşe E.
The biography by Hayden Herrera is great. So much so that I don't even mind that my version of the book is the one with the movie tie-in cover. Usually I avoid those because I'm awesome like that. :-) - pea ♥s un-Mondays
Salma Hayek has been ruined by Frida. I used to find Salma astonishingly beautiful till I saw the monobrow. Things between us have never been the same :( - Toby Graham
Toby, I think there is still hope. I mean, a love THAT DEEP doesn't die over night. - Anna Haro
Salma ruined by Frida? No way, she was great. Hell, Salma could have been in the 2 cups video and she'd still be incredible. - Mark Krynsky
Frida is a great movie with great music - don't care so much for her paintings though. - Brian Sullivan
Anna, I'm sure she'll be crying herself to sleep tonight! - Toby Graham
Let's see we have Melle, Angie from BlackWeb2.0, Samhita, Jason, Bill C, TIffany, and Clarence. If you see any others I should favorite, let me know. - Lynne d Johnson

Caroline, NO idea LOL Print it out and bring it to your local nail salon? haha - Mona N.
hey if any1 finds out where I can get them.. shot my an email pls !! - Peter Dawson
You could get a ton of places to print them as a decal or, you could get a nail tech who specializes in nail art to do it for you. By the way Mona..this site is cool. I added it to my Greader :D - Candace Holly
Caroline in photoshop it would be the inverse filter I think :) - Fred Grott
Goths would love it, everyone else wouldn't even notice unless they themselves were geeks. However, Better than the ghetto hundred dollar polish by far. - Gina K
Blast from the past... Veronica Belmont favorited these June 3 before you joined FriendFeed http://friendfeed.com/e/cb4e5d... But they aren't Vedia's pic [Flickr, 7/1/05]. Here's the biggest photo I found (500x348) http://de.fishki.net/pics2/bin... Funny, I bookmarked them on Del.icio.us because I hadn't joined Flickr back then. Mona posts and gets 63 likes. Veronica posts and gets 6 likes. It's certainly livelier on FF now. Go Mona... - Mitchell Tsai
Mitchell - A,B,C or D-list. FF IS the great equalizer. (Something we've needed for a very long time) Amazing find! - Charlie Anzman
never really noticed Shey's accent... but then again it was 20 by the time I realized my Dad has a Jamaican accent -- apparently is so thick other Jamaicans think he just came to Canada (he's been here 45 years!). Gonna listen hard for Shey's so-called accent... - Jasmin Smith
i can definitely hear the slight caribbean X canadian accent collabo - Cee Bee
very slight accent Shay, have to say that I think mine is a bit thicker than yours....used to always want to lose my accent, but as I got older now proud to have said accent. - Joel Mavericktinez
You did it !!! Still trying to decide whether to p or vcast .... What did you get?? (Edit) ... Yeah I know, I should have watched it first. Very cool New York accent :) - Charlie Anzman
shey i just got this same cam last night - great recommendation. it is sweet! - Morgan
Japanese people only cook PB&J at home. Then they cut it into little bits and eat with chopsticks. And they only drink sake from big giant porcelain urns. - Tad - the Meme Maker
Unless you're a sushi chef. I lost my first girlfriend in college to a sushi chef. How do you compete with a guy who wakes up at 5 am to search out amazing food? - Mitchell Tsai
it's cheaper in restaurants too. try Sushiland :) although it's not as authentic. - ~C4Chaos
i'm black and my husband's romanian/hungarian, but we used to have nigiri sushi at home and just the rice alone is time consuming. we thought, 'no way in hell are people in japan doing this every night', so now we have sashimi and other regular japanese foods all the time. - Faboo Mama
but are born with ninja skills. watch out! - Rodfather
wait a min.... i've made sushi and it wasn't all that hard. (but of course it was veggie... no fancy rare fish) - Ňicķ
Sushi at home = Do Not Want! The only thing we make at home are 1. oinari (tofu pocket sushit) 2. temaki (handrolls) 3. battera (saba pressed sushi) NO California rolls! - Mona N.
My mom likes to make cut rolls. I like to eat sashimi fresh from the grocery store. Sushi is too much work. - Mitchell Tsai
tamaki isn't sushi? (in the broad american sense of the word) - Ňicķ
Temaki or handrolls we do at home, are not the temakis you see at sushi restaurants. We actually have 'temaki' parties, where the neta (sashimi), nori (seaweed), shari (sushi rice), are out on a table and we all make our own :) - Mona N.
I've made some good sushi at home but only because I love "cooking" and I love sushi.. just to try... but yeah, my pathetic efforts have never come remotely close to the great sushi restaurant experience. - Anthony Citrano
This is what I've always thought 'home' sushi was. Inari and futomaki. Has egg, mushroom, cucumber, and other ingredients. Still takes time to make. The brown, scrotum looking thing is inari. Called them footballs as kids. http://www.flickr.com/photos/r... - Rodfather
ah well Mona, i guess that's what i was talking about. I think in general, most americans would consider that (handrolls) as sushi (in the gringo sense of the word) and would love for you to show them how to do just that much... not necessarily "real" sushi - Ňicķ
We do sushi at home. Well, vegetarian sushi. It's often easier than eating out with food-allergic kids. - Cyndy
Not do... did... it's too much work... @Cyndy thought it wasn't too much work because I had to do all the prep and she got to come in and just do the rolling / eating. - Jason Carreira
It is WAY too much effort. And it doesn't taste the same at home - Mona N.
Australian sushi rolls are so simple and easy to make at home - and very cheap when you are on that 'killer' budget - Chris Loft
What in the Sam's Hill are Australian Sushi Rolls, dare I ask - Mona N.
And oddly enough, my caucasian father used to make sushi all the time when I lived there. - Nick Austad

Temaki parties sound like a hell of a lot of fun. Hmm... *plans next dinner party* - Stellina
Stellina: They most definitely are! I don't know where you live, but Japanese supermarkets sell a lot of fresh sashimi :) - Mona N.
It doesn't seem like sashimi would be that hard to make.. or nigiri for that matter... sashimi is all about having a good piece of fish and cutting it well, right? We have "sashimi grade" fish at our grocery store... I've been tempted to try it. The first sushi I had that I actually liked was some fresh salmon and tuna that a friend cut into cubes for me. I had had a bad first experience with sushi years before but that made me decide I loved it. - Lindsay Donaghe
Well it takes YEARS to perfect the kniving skills to properly cut the fish, years to learn how to properly cook and flavor the rice, and nigiri making? Takes at least 3-5 years to perfect. It's an art, a profession, a craft, in my culture :) - Mona N.
the japanese heritage in me says trying to make sushi at home would insulting to the chef that trained many years... - Jason Kaneshiro
From having been at various times heavily into temari, kumihimo, seed-bead work and Aikido, I've noticed that almost everything the Japanese do is turned into a craft at least and an Art at most. The attention to detail is astounding and so is the (traditional) amount of repetition and honing needed to consider yourself graduated to any recognized level of expertise. It's an endearing if intimidating quality of the culture. - Lindsay Donaghe
I don't get what the big deal is, everybody knows ramen > sushi anyway... - Raymond
i wouldn't suggest anyone try to make sushi rice at home. that's labor intensive and my husband decided to do it while i pregnant, which meant the mirin smells killed me, ergo i almost had to kill 'him'. thankfully, after a small island's worth of rice he gave up. - Faboo Mama
My only problem with the Dove campaigns is that the parent corporation also produces the Axe ads. Still a positive message somewhere should help. - Lindsey Smith
While I agree with the sentiment wholeheartedly, I think this idea is missing the whole point of advertising photography, to encourage us to buy something. You wouldn't be encouraged by a visual of the actual squashed, ketchup-in-the-wrapper, misplaced cheese version of a burger at a fast food place - you WANT to buy the nicely photographed juicy fresh lettuce version. Clothing & makeup aren't sold or photographed any differently. I work in ad design and we touch up or alter nearly everything you see. - JoEllen
@JoEllen I think the point becomes to learn to love things for their real-life representation. It extends to everything. Buying the perfect "looking" thing is a habit that can and should be broken. And it's even been proven in a lot of ways with the new trend of "ugly" advertising. Granted, even their definition of ugly is still not real-life but its a step in the right direction. This is something I've been thinking about a lot lately. - Lindsey Smith
It's not just coming from the "media" - it comes, at times, directly from the photographed subject/celebrity. We've been asked to thin people or to make them look less old - men and women. I guess ultimately, I don't understand why we as women turn to these things as "truth" because they aren't designed to be. - JoEllen
I agree . . . it comes from a variety of sources. But generally isn't that indirectly from the media who criticizes them for looking too old, or too flabby etc? - Lindsey Smith
For certain, I think it is an issue, especially with young girls - but I think the issue is far more about how and why those negative thoughts thrive psychologically in women than what benign image is in a sketchers ad. I'm not saying ad-sters aren't at fault but I think the problem is about how one interprets the ad internally. Why do girls/women have such low self esteem? I don't think it's only because of the media's representation of women. - JoEllen
I found from my own experience it comes more from how boys/young men view those ads. Parents do a lot to make their daughters feel comfortable about how they look. But parents don't really correct their sons' perceptions of the same ads. I find most men don't realize how most women really look until their late twenties/early thirties. - Lindsey Smith
@Lindsey - I was JUST thinking the same thing! So many guys don't realize what "real" women look like, even I think, "real" women that are fit and in shape are unexpected for the average dude. It's so sad to see 20 somethings believe they will land themselves someone with a Brazilian model's body. Maybe it takes that long to realize that attraction isn't just physical. - JoEllen
Agree, but 2nd law of thermodynamics claims that the entropy in a closed system will grow over time (if the system isn't in equilibrium), and entropy is also being described as potential information. Maybe the potential information will grow, but the actual information won't? - Amund Tveit
To me it seems that if you have a closed system, then the information will criss-cross each other may times, and u will get a lot of noise, but also some modified better information(call it remixing the information) .I love to see these type of philosophical questions. Paul, do keep on pouring this type of philosophical one-liners. - Varun Mahajan
This was especially true in college when we would go out to the cow pastures and collect "magic" mushrooms, and then dry them under heat lamps in our dorm rooms - Kip
can't recall the source, but in college i read a book on systems theory that stated complex systems 'do what ever is needed' to maintain equilibrium. and that real change comes from outside the system. - MikeAmundsen
@Mike which is why a World Government would be a bad thing - Rudolf Olah
Most of the evangelical christians I know affirm this. - Tim Wright
