damn, I thought you really *were* starting a moving business. I thought it was some kind of oblique play, "okay, now that I'm famous, I'll follow the dream I've had since I was a kid, buy a truck, start a moving business". Disappointed. :-)

Legislation supporting homosexuality, abortion and a push for a Bill of rights were other areas where Mr Nallian said the devil was having influence.

As a person who supports Mac laptops, I'm not willing to make that sacrifice. Boo Apple.
- EricaJoy
I've never removed the battery of my laptop, yet I agree with Erica on this matter.

1,000 recharges is way longer than any laptop I've ever owned... would get me 6 years out of it!
- mjc
I have never removed my Apple battery.
- Louis Gray
I have removed and replaced many. Many many many.

Are all their machines at 7+hrs battery life? I'll sometimes carry a spare, charged battery instead of a charger just because it's lighter... but if I could get a full day from a charge, I'd skip the removable battery.
- Ken Sheppardson
@Ken There high end 17" MacBook Pro has an 8+ hour battery.
- Gerard Lagana
Hmm... So, I have to live in a Windows environment for work and whatnot, but I'd seriously consider a Macbook as a Windows 7 box these days... I guess I'm crazy
- Ken Sheppardson
I've replaced my Macbook's battery 3 times now (1st gen)... But if what Apple says is true about battery life (well, as true as battery life gets) I'll still be buying one.
- AudioThru
Removing the battery helps extend a laptop's lifeline ;) you use it without the battery plugged into the mains - Apple wants to reduce the lifeline and increase revenue by doing so ;)

What do you do on a 17 hour flight from Australia to the USA if you can't swap batteries?
- Cameron Reilly
Bring two MacBooks? It sucks, but I don't think it'll hurt sales at all. I think the majority of people would just live with the longer-lasting but non-swappable battery.
- Jed
Yeah, there are some pretty extreme use cases one can construct, but I think if you plan to take more than one 17hr flight during the time you own your laptop, you could probably invest in an external battery, no? Do those exist for Macbooks?
- Ken Sheppardson
I've been REALLY impressed with my 17" MBP battery life. I think the trade-off is worth it.
- Jay
And if that battery fails in a year? On my 2007 MBP, I could simply walk down to the Apple store, buy a new battery, and call it a day. To be without my notebook for any period of time would be downtime I simply couldn't afford. Same goes for the iPhone.
- Jared Smith
How long does it take Apple to swap out a non-removable battery? Has anyone gone through the process? Do you have to leave it overnight or longer?

The Balzman reviews INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS at Cannes! -- Ain't It Cool News: "at least over half of the film is non-English." - http://www.aintitcool.com/node...
"Also, something interesting to note - at least over half of the film is non-English. IB plays with the idea of language confusion and barriers during WWII, and really nails that atmosphere in this flick. Huge scenes are played out in both French, German and English, and it really shows the testament of QT's abilities that these actors are always convincing, no matter what dialect. There's a scene midway in the film (the bar scene for those who have read it) probably the best part of the whole film, that's done almost entirely in French and German - you will be in awe with just how masterful the acting is. It really is outstanding. (Side Note: The Nazis, all of them portrayed in the film, are portrayed so perfectly I wonder just how much of it is actual historical research or QT's wild imagination...you will laugh and be shocked at the same time)."

Great to hear some positive reviews! Quentin has never let me down in the past and so he had my full confidence.

"This time around, the stars are an unmasked Christian Bale, who is coming off the staggering success of "The Dark Knight," and Aussie newcomer Sam Worthington (who, in an intriguing bit of Hollywood linkage, will star in Cameron's eagerly anticipated 3-D epic "Avatar" at the end of the year). The year is 2018, and mankind is being snuffed out by the malevolent machines of SkyNet. The man who is destined to lead the human resistance, John Connor (Bale), is now an adult but is struggling with his legacy and the suspicions of Advertisement his ragged compatriots. He also is staggered when he meets Marcus Wright (Worthington), whose last memory is of being a death row prisoner before the apocalyptic attacks of SkyNet. Wright turns out to be a SkyNet-created cyborg model but one that does not match the prophecies that have guided Connor his entire life. The distrusting pair set off on a quest to find answers, and the path leads to Dr. Serena Kogen (Helena Bonham Carter) and an ending that...

Helena Bonham Carter is in it? Never though I'd see the day that she'd be in a Terminator film! Excellent.

Interesting parallels between the Mormon's position on inter-racial marriage up until the 70s and their view today on same-sex marriage.

I did a presentation for a group of Guardian folk a couple of years ago. I wrote it up here. It was fun. And more importantly for me, it was useful, because I've been doing some variant of that presentation...

After failing to anticipate Hamas’s victory over Fatah in the 2006 Palestinian election, the White House cooked up yet another scandalously covert and self-defeating Middle East debacle: part Iran-contra, part Bay of Pigs. With confidential documents, corroborated by outraged former and current U.S. officials, the author reveals how President Bush, Condoleezza Rice, and Deputy National-Security Adviser Elliott Abrams backed an armed force under Fatah strongman Muhammad Dahlan, touching off a bloody civil war in Gaza and leaving Hamas stronger than ever.
