i like it though! the popups when hovering over links etc.. very nice - Ralph Reijs
I like it too. However, one important thing is still missing! The ability to write few words about yourself. You need to do a research here through feed links in order to know more about each user. - Orli Yakuel
at last someone support me re. profile :) .. i cna't get used to the separate lists - Naor
boy, I wish Friendfeed will add avatars next to those friends lists. - Orli Yakuel
Cultural freedom is the freedom to do whatever you want. Wear a bikini. Or nothing at all. Or wrap every body part in red cloth. I don't care. That's the point. Out here you can do it all and express yourself how you feel you would like to express yourself. In other places you are forced to express yourself the way other people want you to express yourself. That's not freedom. - Robert Scoble
@Robert Scoble you say :Cultural freedom is the freedom to do whatever you want. girls in iran can wear bikini in special place.. - Aida
To look I: cultural freedom just woman honor thats with veil - Masoud
Aida: then why the lack of diverse clothing here? In other words, you're free to be cultural as long as you fit in with everyone else, right? Keep in mind my wife's mom sent her to US because of these attitudes. - Robert Scoble
You're free to wear a veil here in the states, too. It's just not forced. And if you say it's not forced in Iran, I'll come back at you with tons of stories from Iranians that prove that it IS forced. - Robert Scoble
robert idea is different, i love this veil and dont problem with it..& also iran is Islamic country - Aida
Aida: exactly. Islamic countries don't have cultural freedom. - Robert Scoble
Uniforms ...uni-thoughts ...uni-fates ...if you omit one of those women from the picture ... nothing will change in it ...that's how people are reduced to mere copies ... - Selma
im sorry for you and for aida, and i invited you and ida to cultural freedom thats you mean:nice body nude body. and...........im sorry - Masoud
i like islamic republic country with even dont cultural freedom, and you can like usa and any country with cultural freedom.bye baby - Masoud
Masoud: you might talk to my wife. Her friend was whipped for the mere infraction of being caught with a girl. When I get together with Iranians (there are thousands in the San Francisco Bay Area) I hear story after story like that of people getting thrown into jail for the stupidest things, or getting punished in other ways. - Robert Scoble
Masoud: there's a lot of things that the United States does wrong. I don't stand up for them, though (like Bush's use of waterboarding as a torture method). We can all improve. The problem is that you don't have freedom of speech, either, so if you try to tell your government it is wrong you'll probably get thrown in jail. I don't have those problems to worry about. Only a small portion of the world has true freedom of speech and I pinch myself every day that I have that here. - Robert Scoble
- Sina
- Selma
Interesting how cultures and belief systems are colliding here. I remember when the Russians used to hate us. I always believed that if we could just show them our grocery stores they'd change. That was pretty close to the truth. Well, now, I wish I could bring every Iranian to Half Moon Bay, CA, USA to show them what a really great beach looks like. :-) Of course here everyone bundles up cause, well, it's usually cold! - Robert Scoble
Religion you for you Religion I for I
My relegion for me, your relegion for you? - Ehsan Moslehi
Masoud: the thing is, when you have freedom of religion then your beliefs actually mean something because YOU can stand up and have credibility when you say you believe them. In your case I don't know if you believe what you do, or you are just trying to fit in or keep from getting thrown in jail. Also, there are undoubtedly SOME people in your country who don't believe what you do. They don't have a choice where you live. Yet you think that's OK. Hmmm. - Robert Scoble
Rutger: Google Translate doesn't do Farsi, unfortunately. - Robert Scoble
Seems like our problem is that some people are so used to these forced ideas that they fail to see it any other way ... and unfortunately those people are in a position here to enforce it on others ...at best in any argument with those non-Iranians who protest, they resort to "keep your ideas to yourself and I’ll keep mine to myself" the irony is that same "reasoning" is not valid for arguments with our own people ...if that reasoning was actually what is happening here, there would be freedom indeed ...for I’d be free to chose what I want to say and wear and do ...as I said ...they are using that idea of Uniforms ...uni-thoughts ...uni-fates ...to reduce people to mere copies ... and that is how they like it ... no individual voice is much more comfortable and manageable for those on power here ...dear Robert ...when they refuse to listen, arguing with them won't change anything - Selma
Selma: arguing probably won't change anything. But things DO change. We used to have slaves in the United States. We don't do that anymore. Minds CAN be changed. It's slow, though. But, I never thought the Berlin Wall would fall, either, and that did. Sometimes change happens very quickly. Much quicker than we expect. Humans want to be free. All the Iranian Americans who I've talked with say that too. They are sad that their friends back home don't have freedom. - Robert Scoble
- Selma
Robert: I guess here we have lost quite a bit of our optimism, but I do hope change would come one day ...we need it so bad, and we need it so urgently! ... :) - Selma
Selma: I understand that. We still have George Bush as a President. Can't wait until next January. By the way, I should have been clearer, since many probably don't know my wife is Iranian. She lived in Tehran until she was 14 when her parents sent her to USA to study and escape these kinds of attitudes/rules/cultural beliefs. She was threatened by a soldier one day just for laughing in the street. - Robert Scoble
- Selma
@Robert: I already knew about Maryam :) although i don't leave comments but i have been following most of your conversations with the Iranian community for the past few weeks ... the great thing about the internet is that it gives people a chance to see that things COULD be happening in a different way. I hope that'd speed up the natural process of things and help bring the change we are waiting for ...btw if Obama turns out to be as good as it seems, could we borrow him for a term or two? ;) - Selma
Selma: you can have him in eight years. :-) - Robert Scoble
Islamic countries don't have cultural freedom روبرت گفت - Masoud
- Selma
Robert every people, every country, every religion has a choice to do it their way! Stop shoving American democracy - capitalism on other peoples' believes! America is America, Iran is Iran, and Israel is Israel. Keep your politics at home! - Igor The Troll
- Selma
Freedom to chose should not be counter against the social fabric of the society! - Igor The Troll
Maybe it's an Islamic state, maybe it's a totalitarian state using religion to oppress its people - Jim Hawkins
When I go to a Mosque, I take my shoes off! That is respect to the Muslim people and Muslim religion! I have a choice not to take off my shoes but I will be disrespecting Muslim people. I am not a Muslim. I am a Jew! - Igor The Troll
So you think the government-set rules for what we wear and what we do is "the social fabric of the Iranian society"? how come it wasn't like this 30 years ago before our revolution then? - Selma
The topic of our discussion is the current situation in Iran, we HAVE TO wear hijab whether we are religious or not, Christian, Jew,etc ...it's mandatory for every one. you get arrested for drinking, for not covering yourself, for wearing manteaus that aren't long enough (down to your knees), etc...etc ... all we are saying here is that ...respect the religious people but please let us live our lives the way we want - Selma
We want to have the choice about our clothing and our beliefs ...being atheist is considered a serious crime here ... is that a disrespect too? - Selma
؟؟ - Masoud
Should not Iranian people decide what is right or wrong for them? Why does America get involved in Iran? America overthrew The Iranian Shah for their convenience, now they want to put MacDonald's on every corner in the name of democracy! - Igor The Troll
@Igor: hmm... I don't think we ever said we wanted America's help for establishing civil rights and cultural freedom here ...(the Obama comment was just a joke btw ) ... we are struggling inside our own country, and sooner or later we'll manage to balance things out one way or another, thank you :) ... - Selma
IMHO freedom overrides everything else in terms of importance. What value does the so-called 'social fabric' of a nation have if the only thing holding it together is government coercion? Legal enforcement of social norms/values should be the last resort - otherwise communities become irrelevant. - Alexander Carlill
"Freedom" as an ideology? How much real freedom do you have? Did Americans have freedom to get rid of George W. Bush after he took America to war under false pretense? He was even reelected for the second term! Pleaze, preaching freedom or "freedom fries"? The only freedom Americans have is to buy an iPhone after waiting online for many hours! Oh, and you can thank Robert Scoble for recommending the iPhone which is a brick! - Igor The Troll
Please do not "preach freedom" but apply it! I would love to see you go to 1 Pennsylvania avenue and scream freedom! I wounder how long will it take for you to be arrested by the secret service! Pathetic! - Igor The Troll
I just hate propaganda! Be it American, Iranian, Israeli, Russian, or any other color and flavor! Be real and respect people and cultures! - Igor The Troll
@Scobleizer: Robert, I think you misunderstand "culture." You're speaking as if a particular approach is free of culture. But none of us are free of culture. I would claim that even the freedom you refer to is related to a particular sub-cultural norm, even in what we speak of as the West. Try nudity in the workplace or in your favorite shopping mall. Also, I think it is a misunderstanding to confuse cultural restraints with government coercion. Culture trumps most other cases. We know that in seeing how previous cultural forces resurface when government systems fail and collapse. There are people who claim that culture (e.g., being a Christian nation) trumps what others of us see as the tolerance that the founding leaders of the USA made primary. Try getting our governments out of the marriage business, for example. - Dennis E. Hamilton
I am surprised Robert even making an issue here! He should stick to his gadgets and leave eugenics out of his life! But maybe machines have no emotions and he is trying to be human! - Igor The Troll
Troll INDEED. This conversation is being reduced to something along the lines of personal attacks, questioning Robert's humanity. Sarcasm or not, let's stay on target. That said...I understand where both sides are coming from. They may see this photograph as "freedom", just as we see our scantily-clad females as "freedom". They may be "oppressed" by not having "choice", our women may be "oppressed" by rampant objectification. I dunno, just saying. - Victor Vasquez
I respect Islam's fashion and need for boundary. I understand their needs in this respect. And I hope the Islamic world can respect America and Israel's boundaries as well and understand our needs for those boundaries to be secure. We in America might even learn a thing or two from your culture about respecting women in my opinion. Our feminism has failed us miserably. Rhetoric has very little to do with behavior. Respect has no law. We all need to respect other people's lines and need to protect those lines. I don't understand Scoble's cultural tyranny. It is not a value that all people in the "West" agree with. - Ⓝ〄ⒶⒽ ⒹⒶⓋⒾⒹ ⓈⒾⓂ〄Ⓝ
Victor Vasquez I did not attack Robert personally! I said he is a geek blogger who blogs about gadgets and should not impose his notability as a such blogger on a cultural debate! But you reduced yourself to labeling! Why not just call me a "Jew"? - Igor The Troll
@Igor. I concede my hypocrisy. Apologies. Though I fail to understand why I would call you a Jew...Moving on, I don't quite see why Robert ought not share his views that may venture outside the realm of tech. Then again, it might be safer that way and avoid possible firestorm. - Victor Vasquez
In addition, while Robert Scoble runs around preaching freedom and democracy, he blocks every opposing opinion user! That is a contradiction and a double standards in itself. - Igor The Troll
Apology accepted and no hard feelings. My above response is to why I am inclined to be biased against Robert. - Igor The Troll
problem Victor is that Scoble has a "HUGE" audience waiting to be influenced into the next "TECH" thing... and what if the next "TECH" thing is L Ron Hubbard? It is a slippery ethical slope when you are a media figure. I believe Scoble has gone to the dark side for a while now. Though I would never call him stupid. I think he is very calculating. Robert has a pattern of bringing in cultural bias into his technology information. After all what is technology anyway, but a hierarchy of power? - Ⓝ〄ⒶⒽ ⒹⒶⓋⒾⒹ ⓈⒾⓂ〄Ⓝ
As Noah said wielding power and audiance Robert brings his bias and discrimination to a debate! The result of which has a paramount influence on the Internet. I would go as far as to call it "Social engineering of society!" and this is dangerous! - Igor The Troll
the problem with the very word "tech" is it is misleading... and Robert is using that confusion to other and black sheep various opinions that question his world view. I myself would do the same thing of course... if I were powerful I would use my power to leverage change... but I wouldn't hide behind lies. Robert is not transparent. That bothers me. Like I said... we all have boundaries. But we need to make those lines clear. Not hide them behind self righteous Blue State babble. - Ⓝ〄ⒶⒽ ⒹⒶⓋⒾⒹ ⓈⒾⓂ〄Ⓝ
I am glad Bill Gates does not attempt to infuse his powers on politics! I guess that is why Microsoft is a success even though it is almost a monopoly! - Igor The Troll
Robert it is not too late to change. Open up the door! Let your elitism be a growing one that respects difference. Not an elitism that pretends difference is not there. Come on down to the human level Scoble my brother! - Ⓝ〄ⒶⒽ ⒹⒶⓋⒾⒹ ⓈⒾⓂ〄Ⓝ
Looks like a summer holiday on the caspain post-79. Its quite beautiful photo in an errie sort of way. We may need some Phillip Glass music playing in the background. - Neyma Jahansooz
First off to say that I wish freedom and peace for all beings regardless of anything else. but to play the advocate for a moment, some Islamic women find the Shadora (veil) empowering in a certain way. Meaning that theirs is a subtle feminine power that has absolute mastery and control over the home and hearth whereas the men are like children in a playground going out and doing 'worldly' things whereas the 'real' life is in the home where the veil is lifted. - Neyma Jahansooz
gender is more complex then we can imagine. to defend America and Israel's boundary we packaged our invasion of Iraq as a sociological duty. This was a mistake. I believe we were right to invade Iraq, but I would of preferred to of done it simply because of the terrorism Iraq and other countries were sponsoring in Israel and elsewhere. Igor you are wrong. Noam Chomsky says there were in fact WMDs now. Do you know why? Because we gave it to him! Our Pentagon knew more then anyone else and they also knew they could never prove it. Saddam betrayed America. Saddam betrayed his own people. Saddam needed to be taken out..., but with all the politics the reason to do it got lost. We had enough reason to invade. With or without UN support, but I believe G-d punished us for our hypocrisy of gender confusion with the embarrassment of Abu Gharaib. Nothing could betray more gender confusion. In the Torah the Jews are punished by G-d many times by being humiliated by their worst enemies. - Ⓝ〄ⒶⒽ ⒹⒶⓋⒾⒹ ⓈⒾⓂ〄Ⓝ
That doesn't mean G-d has left Israel and America, but we have to stop dictating the rules of the home to other cultures. Hell is a road paved on good intentions. I doubt that most Christian missionaries that brought disease to the third world really meant harm, but it is not the job of an outside culture to dictate morality. On the other hand, defending our borders from terrorists attacking the United States and Israel is not to be apologized for and we know Iraq was funding suicide bombers in Israel. I am glad we invaded Iraq and feel riotous in believing that. I will die for that opinion. If Iran does not stop funding Hezballah and threatening to attack Israel you can expect the Jews to continue to defend themselves... even if they do it in a woman's dress and high heels. - Ⓝ〄ⒶⒽ ⒹⒶⓋⒾⒹ ⓈⒾⓂ〄Ⓝ
Noah, America made Sadam, Khamenei, Cadafi, Bin Laden! When It is not convenient for them geopolitically they go to take them out! Marriage of convenience? Miss Liberty needs to be more respectable with her suiters! It is not just what "she" wants but what her lovers want as well as what the other players at the party! "Give me Liberty or give me Death!" is an empty cry unless you willing to exercise it! Hypocrisy, double standards and every other deceit, all for what? - Igor The Troll
America has become a joke, a pun of tragedy! Do you think anyone can help Amerika? As an Israeli I wish America was out of Israeli politics, but I know it will never happen! It is scary for all of where all of us this is going! - Igor The Troll
Igor America is no different then any other entity. It chooses it's allies and is sometimes betrayed. If you think America is such a hypocrite then why would you attempt to friend Mark Davidson? I warned you didn't I? We all try to friend the enemy. I'm trying to friend Robert Scoble right now. We all put our hands out to the other side and we should not be criticized for doing it. As we are speaking right now. Israel is talking to Syria in secret talks. This is the nature of politics. - Ⓝ〄ⒶⒽ ⒹⒶⓋⒾⒹ ⓈⒾⓂ〄Ⓝ
and Robert Scoble... what kind of cultural freedom does your elitist blue state private gated community have today? Women in makeup? discomfort? you are no more transparent then the women in that photograph - Ⓝ〄ⒶⒽ ⒹⒶⓋⒾⒹ ⓈⒾⓂ〄Ⓝ
Noah I friend my enemies to learn about them! Ignorance is not bliss! The saying goes, "Keep your friends close and your enemies even closer!" - Igor The Troll
But Robert Scoble, come on, how many women actually *chose* to be wrapped up in black on a beach even, when left to make that choice? That's where your moral relativism starts to break down. And click through to this guy's page and ALL his pictures for a context that clearly seems to be more about feminism and admiration of the female form that some of the PC gang here are willing to admit. - Prokofy Neva
Igor... you thought Mark Davidson was your friend till you realized he was an aMANdaChapel drone. you desperately want to align yourself with the Blue State tyranny, and get frustrated when they reject you. They reject you because their politics are a facade of support for something that does not like you for who you are. Robert Scoble is a facade of the monoculture and he is so fat that no one can see the bigotry behind him. Igor you don't know who your friends and enemies are. - Ⓝ〄ⒶⒽ ⒹⒶⓋⒾⒹ ⓈⒾⓂ〄Ⓝ
and the Kevin Rose effect brings the site to a crawl - Josh Haley
I like the look.. Cuil would probably be a pretty good special interest search engine.. competing with google doesn't sound like a good idea to me anyway. - Daniel
Wow. It took you that long Robert. You early adopter you. Did someone squat your name on identi.ca or did you get @scobleizer? - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
I was an early adopter of Twhirl, but when Twitter had all of its problems I moved away from clients and just used the Web page. - Robert Scoble
why does twhirl keep notifying me of the same content - Mike Szczygiel
via twhirl
All the identi.ca talk is really starting to wear away on my nerves. Identi.ca is just one instance of laconi.ca, and as such is just another single point of failure just like Twitter. In fact, it's probably no more stable than Twitter was two years ago. All these tools pointing at identi.ca totally miss the fact that the real advantage of laconi.ca, the open source service, can run on many other servers and not just identi.ca. However, there's no way tools like Twhirl can support all laconi.ca instances. - Ken Sheppardson
twihrl gives me nothing but problems. I can't use my scrollwheel because it scrolls two full pages with each click, on every PC i've used it on, regardless of configuration. It's a memory hog for the little it does, and everytime I click a link, it opens the page twice. I' ve tried reinstalling it to no avail, anyone else having these problems? - Richard Lawler
via twhirl
Is there any way to easily add all twitter friends in identi.ca? - Mike Hussein Cohen
via twhirl
Yeah. I use it for the "other" services I use, and also when I have my Macbook hooked up to my 56" HD set, but I really wish they would consolidate the 4 windows into single window with multiple tabs. - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
Ken: personally it's just another point to communicate with you other than Twitter. Our system is becoming stronger thanks to these. Now we have FF, Twitter, and Identi.ca and Plurk. Four ways. Will all four systems go down at the same time? Doubtful. - Robert Scoble
@mike3K ah, the holy grail of data portability! when is open mesh arriving! - The Pageman
I'd kill for them to add an RSS reader into it. - Bradley McSpinn
Why not just use Ping.fm and Gtalk as a client? - Rutger Blom
I like Twhirl. They keep adding support for other clients. - Jim Williams
twhirl def needs an rss reader and a way to combine account windows into one - Mike Szczygiel
via twhirl
I used to like Twhirl but now I use TweetDeck. It is amazing and its a great way to manage your Twitter feeds. You should give it a try. A new version is about to come out with notifications if that is one of the things you are looking for. Im testing it right now and it works really well. - pcnerd37
I moved from Twhirl to TweeterDeck and then to FriendFeed and Identi.ca back to FF. - Scot Duke
Why is it that, when I try to update Twhirl, Firefox just wants me to download an .air file? When I click the .air file, nothing happens. - Bradley McSpinn
Robert: I think you mentioned that on GG yesterday... wanted to respond then :-) Relying on four+ independent services (or four devices for that matter ;-) might work for a select few, but for this stuff to move beyond the "twitterati" some service needs to provide utility-like reliability. "Oh, my phone is broken today, I'll just write a letter" won't be acceptable to the main stream. A true open source twitter-like cloud could do that. Identi.ca can't, at least not any time soon. - Ken Sheppardson
seconding and thirding @Mike Szczygiel: "twhirl def needs...a way to combine account windows into one" - Derrick Burns
Twhirl's creators have promised, very soon, some other than multiple floating windows. But I don't get the popularity of TweetDeck. I found the interface overly rigid and far less usable. Twhirl is what I'm sticking with -- and I keep notifications off. (Notifications, beyond direct messages or even replies, seem like a time suck to me.) - Peter Kirn
via twhirl
@Peter Kirn: not to mention that the incessant 'bing!' on every tweet is enough to make you schizophrenic. - Derrick Burns
Scoble just said shiznit. This is now tagged as BEST TWEET EVAR. - Rob Diana
But are you going to come up with a Twhirl gang sign to complement the FriendFeed gang sign? Fotwizzle. - Ontario Emperor
using post-to-any-service clients is like suffering from disorganized schizophrenia at a block party. it just ain't fun for all participants - thomas marban
via Alert Thingy
identi.ca feels like a step backwards from FF. - Thomas Hawk
I also like Twhirl. It's simple and yet elegant. - imabonehead
@Thomas I think Identica (could be) a good independant service alongside FF, depending on how they grow their service of course. - Roger Kondrat
Its got the twitter disease. Thats why you should just come on over to friendfeed. we are talking about you here anyway :-) - Richard Binhammer
I know exactaly how much. I downloaded the MeeTimer plugin for FF. - Sonciary Honnoll
i moved almost completely off of twitter. i still set off a tweet here and there when the subject is not FF worthy; like "I'm drinking my protein shake by the pool". All in all its alot more interesting on FF. - Carlos Ayala
I tried Twitter and didn't like it. Since starting FF, I hate to admit it, I actually like FF. It is sort of like a group instant messaging utility. - Herschel
Since I used RescueTime for a week, I have reduced all my soc net time down drastically. - Sally Church
I don't waste my time on twitter anymore. I spend all my time on FF; that's where the conversations are. - John Budnik
Well, most of the people I follow on twitter are here, so I turned off device updates on twitter. And as for the rest, twitter has not been sending me IM's for a few weeks now. So outside a short twit now and then, or my script posting what I'm listing... I'm not wasting much time on twitter. - Grant Bierman
None at all. Just FF. Anyone worth talking tech with on the internet is here on FF. We could use a bigger crowd, but for now this is where it's at. - Tad Goes to 11
not enough, although most of my time is wasted on Friendfeed these days - Bjorn Tipling
better question should be how much time are you wasting on the internet - Dan Rockwell
via twhirl
I don't consider any of it wasted. I get a lot of great links and information from Twitter/FF posts, and I've seen/participated in a lot of interesting discussions as a result of those links. That's never a waste. - eve shot first
Well, I used to waste a lot of time. But since I got Twhirl, no time gets wasted. It is a marvelous tool. - Rodrigo Leme
via twhirl
I think an interesting related question is, "what are you accomplishing on Twitter? " - Brian Wilson
I use little twitter, more FF and fftogo lately. I'm not a techie so I hope to not bore folks as I try to broaden my geekish horizons :) - kbourke
I use Twitter for communcating with some clients, and also now use Twhirl. - Ian May
via twhirl
"gmail expects the same respect as outlook" - tell that to the Corporate IT .. and see what the response is !! - Peter Dawson
I wrote about RescueTime when they first launched, but I never dared to try it myself for what it might find :-) To answer the headline question: hardly any at all now. - Duncan Riley
I mostly use Twitter in bits of time between more meaningful tasks. Standing in line, waiting, switching between tasks, etc. - Jack Collins
I have a blackberry and I live in Canada. There is no easy way now to read/follow twitter since the IM feature is gone; I used to read twitter via google talk. I find that twitterberry and m.twitter don't allow me to read more than a page or the past hour and using SMS is painful. Every 250 messages I need to delete my mobile number online and re-add it or I would have to wait a week for new messages. I read it when I'm on the go or need a break from my writing. - Phillip Jeffrey
I waste more time on friendfeed a lot more than twitter because of how much more content is available - Justin
I use time very wisely on Twitter - no more than 30 mins/day actively. Scans messages while it runs in background on Twhirl. - Jim Turner

i rarely use twitter, but i wouldn't say that it's because of ff. necessarily. it's just become unreliable as well as "spammy" - Cee Bee
Next to none since friendfeed. Loving me some friendfeed! - joshua fouts
None. I'm wasting my time on friendfeed instead :) - Ryo
I would love to use Twitter and Friendfeed more - if only they were more mainstream here in Australia. - Jim Yiapanis
Isn't Twitter like breathing? I don't stop breathing. - Carolyn Chan
via twhirl
I think I'll be wasting a lot of time on FF, only because it offers you more real estate than twitter. That and the fact that I never know when, and if, twitter will be online! - Dukeswharf
via twhirl
Great app, helped me cut my social shennanigans under an hour a week. - Sean Oliver
i use twitter a lot since it helps me connect with real people and real solutions. the conversations on friendfeed are ones that drive the thought process and creativity though . - Fuad Arshad
Sounds like a great tool, though it vaguely sounds like a rip-off of something else. I don't consider my Twitter/FF time wasted though. I learn so much in the course of goofing off, and save so much time venting rather than stewing in my own frustration that it's a wash. - tinu
Evan Williams just put away his checkbook from the summize deal but needs to get in touch with these guys! THIS is what twitter.com needs to look like! Good stuff. - paisano
oh Orli - this gives me hope! With the auto-refresh we might even be able to have a half-decent conversation on Twitter! Do you know what it's using under the hood for the real-time updates? Ajax? Keep us posted on this please!! - Matt Hooper
Matt, it's probably Ajax-based. Guys, this application is amazingly good! - Orli Yakuel
twitter is dead. too bad it uses a bad standard. let me know when they interface ff - Ⓝ〄ⒶⒽ ⒹⒶⓋⒾⒹ ⓈⒾⓂ〄Ⓝ
That's pretty nice. Wonder when they'll open up their beta more? - Patrick Veverka
Thanks for the positive comments everyone. Our team is really dedicated to providing the best twitter experience possible via the web. There are a few bugs left to work out, but we're hoping to get those ironed out over the weekend and do a soft launch next week. - Derek Gathright
Oh, and follow @tweenky for the latest updates with the application. Matt, this application uses the Summize & Twitter APIs, and heavily uses ajax (jQuery). - Derek Gathright
Whats going on with this people! Is IE secondary ?? "It looks like you are using Internet Explorer. We are still in early early early beta and haven't had the chance to properly test in IE yet. In the meantime, go download Firefox! =)"................. - Jigar Mehta
Jigar, Ugh... IE is such a pain in the ass. we're hoping to get IE7 support, but really, we're targeting power twitter users, and they don't use anything but Firefox & Safari. Right now we're at 4% of our traffic is IE users so not sure it is vital to get working during a beta launch. - Derek Gathright
Sounds interesting. Would love an invite. Thanx! - Barbara K. Baker
Alright derek, any idea where to get invite from?] - Jigar Mehta
The screenshots look really nice. Would love an invite. Thanks! - Sudar
No invites... but hopefully Tweenky will go public soon. - Orli Yakuel
I need something looking like gmail like I need a hole in the head - James Tenniswood
@derek - Thanks for letting us know a bit more about it - can't wait to have a closer look! - Matt Hooper
Wow! it's so cool to see that lots of people liked Tweenky. Really something that worth waiting for. - Orli Yakuel
wheres the innovation ? I Agree with James, do I need another gmail type interface ? to me its just a skin being applied to Twitter, you can do all the makeup you want, but that will not hide the twitter illness beneath a skin !! - Peter Dawson
@Duncan, convenience. But you know what, it's not a second Gmail, it's just some colors an elements that resemble to Gmail, and make it easy to understand and work with the applications. Duncan, this application rocks big time, wait till you try it yourself :-) - Orli Yakuel
Orli, " this application rocks" - this is just a UI app , as much as I hate sayin this, but building an interface on a "rocky" /unstable application will certainly lead to what ? another mini fail whale experience ? - Peter Dawson
Peter, you're talking like Twitter is to be close tomorrow... come on... we all know that this "UNSTABLE" thing, didn't stop none of us from using it. And I'd like to think that Twitter will be stable eventually. - Orli Yakuel
Tweenky.com seems to bring up only a white page... So is this a full Twitter-like platform, or just a UI that talks to Twitter itself? - Jason Carreira
I can't reach at the site.is tweenky under construction?? - Chris Qie
Yes. (even for me, and I miss it already since yesterday) - Orli Yakuel
Until the power blocs that are enabling Bush and running interference for him are effectively challenged and deconstructed, there is no solution and no hope. Bush and Cheney are mere figureheads, tools. Rupert Murdoch is far more powerful and influential than either Bush or Cheney. - Sean McBride
Wow, Sean, sounds more like the plot for a reality TV series than real life. You talk like a man who sees evil plots everywhere. BTW Jason, check back here when Bush is out of office. I'll bet the US won't attack Iran. Israel might. - Michael Tefft
Perhaps Pelosi may say "enough is enough"...perhaps not. - Ontario Emperor
via fftogo
Michael: are you asserting that Bush and Cheney haven't been enabled and protected by neoconservative power blocs in American politics, led by billionaires and oligarchs like Rupert Murdoch (who owns Fox News, the New York Post, the Wall Street Journal and the Weekly Standard)? If Israel does attack Iran, and there are disastrous economic consequences for the United States and Americans, (almost a certainty), try to envision the political fallout for Israel. - Sean McBride
There are nations/groups and individuals in the middle east who see the use of a nuclear weapon as a first strike or retaliatory action as an acceptable reaction to the situation there - enough to keep you awake at night - David W
Sean, you're taking the argument to Murdoch now? Is Soros exempt? He's done more to subvert the American political system than anyone in American history, and you give him a pass? Interesting. - Gregory Pittman
via twhirl
GREGORY: I'm STILL WAITING TO HEAR back from Sean...how about you? - Thomas Ho
via fftogo
Thomas, Sean and I have been going back and forth on another post. He's pretty good at putting up straw men. - Gregory Pittman
via twhirl
Who will suffer the fallout is entirely tangential to the point -- we can't stand by while the war expands, whether by proxy (Israel, Saudi, Pakistan, NATO) or the US. At present, it's a fairly broad-based conspiracy that the US is funding Baloch and Azeri rebellions inside Iran. My hope is that this knowledge will be more widely disbursed when the next President comes into office and hopefully be another very sad part of this whole saga. - Prolific Programmer
Oh please... this conspiracy theory / panic again? Isn't this sort of thing limited to the folks over at "The Daily Kos"? I'm sure somehow, in these replies, it will turn out to be all Israel's fault. - Soulhuntre
via twhirl
Oh wait, someone already did make it part of "The Great Jewish Conspiracy"... never mind. - Soulhuntre
No, soulhuntre... Notice, Israel wasn't the only country I listed. The US doesn't have the troops for another war, thus it is entirely possible that it will wage a war by proxy and one of those likely proxies is Israel. Do I want this to happen? No, I do not want the war to expand. Perhaps it's a bit paranoid on my part, but I never envisioned the US/UK/Australia/etc. would invade Iraq either. - Prolific Programmer
I am sure the current war will expand - and if need be it should. There is simply no reason to tolerate the presence of a insanely violent group of people who are dedicated by religious conviction to the enslavement or murder of literally every other group of people on earth. Terrorist groups, and the nations who support, foster, protect and arm them are already at war with us. They daily proclaim their support of our destruction and daily work to bring it about. Conflict between us is inevitable. - Soulhuntre
I could see a nuclear plant getting blown up by the Israelis but our involvement in an offensive move against Iran would be a catastrophic mistake. I am watching this issue carefully and will bring it up in my interviews with Pelosi and others this week. Iran is a much stronger country than Iraq. If a war breaks out here there will be devastating casualties. I don't think we are even close to prepared to take on such an effort. - Robert Scoble
I hope no war happens .... nowhere in the world! .. PEACE - little Angel
Iran is a much stronger nation than Iraq was - but in the end that is a wash - our aims there would be ones that our forces and technology are perfectly created to deal with. The weapons, and forces, we have are absolutely perfect for the task of eradicating the technical infrastructure of a foe. We don't need to invade and win the hearts of Iran. What we would need to do is w
