"But what we want more than anything, as Americans, is to live vulgar criminal lives with no consequences, forever, like the Hip Hop stars, but whiter. We want to get high, drive drunk, ignore homework, evade the draft, have Ivy League educations, eat cookies, watch football, start wars, dance like fools, and still be rich as kings and talk directly to Jesus." - Carla Thompson
“Overheard at the nail salon: "After all day in front of a computer at work, it's the last thing I want to do when I get home." Good to keep in mind as we build and test time-sucking services.”
Oops, typo. Ignore the quote mark at the very end. We need an edit button! - Carla Thompson
Exactly why we need less obtrusive mobile computing devices, faster and more ubiquitous wireless network connectivity, and OLED subcutaneous displays. - Kelly Fox
I knew you'd pick up on that one, Shellee. ; ) - Carla Thompson
so, a serious comment then...While a couple of my friends in education have set up Twitter and FF accounts, they aren't doing much with them. They'd understand this question you overheard. I'd add, however, that they're also not likely to have the computer in the "ON" position nearly all day. They're also not likely to be bouncing between 20 tabs or other apps while they work. It just isn't their working style. - Shellee OBrien
One of my most favorite New Yorker cartoons ever, by BEK:
“He spends all day sitting, so the last thing he wants to do when he comes home is anything else.” - edythe
“kids woke up at 6:15 and it's not my turn to sleep in. foul mood. why did i stop drinking coffee?”
Saturday at 4:48 am
Well, my kids woke up at 9 a.m. Texas time, so there...... Yeah, but since wife's in California, I knew I would be awoken early for "Saturday Morning Cartoons" - Chris Reed
“I am so done with email newsletters. Don't read them, don't care, stop spamming me.”
May 7 at 12:21 pm
There's very much a growing flame and pitchfork trend against newsletters. Space.com just made their daily email newsletter weekly rather than daily and I know a few others doing the same or eliminating them entirely... - Chris Reed
Just need to get late adopters (sorry, don't hit me) to understand (and use) RSS and all is good. - Alex von Halem
Did you take that pic? Absolutely beautiful! Nice view in your hometown! We're coming up on monsoon season here in the Vegas Valley (pretty much late May to the end of June) and we usually get spectacular lightning storms. Sometimes, I'll pitch up a chair to the bedroom window and watch the lightning hit the Stratosphere (the hotel, not the atmospheric layer) - Chris Reed
I wish I could take credit for it but I didn't. A family friend did. The body of water is Lake Nasworthy, a foul tub of pollution but one in which every town teen has likely learned to water ski. - Carla Thompson

“I'd like to be able to email items to my FriendFeed. Does this functionality already exist and I just don't know it?”
See? The wine has gotten to you already.... Like Williams thoguh, frankly, I don't think I've watched a network newscast in a least a year... - Chris Reed
Oh my! I was really wanting to attend this but will be back in the UK and cannot see work (or school - especially given I've just left one and am currently looking for a new supervisor at another) paying for another trip out this way : ( - Patricia Hanrahan
Kelly got some really nice feedback on your writing too. Concise but still getting the crux of the philosophy. Should have picked up some additional readers for Guidewire. - Shellee OBrien
Please keep us posted on the Semantic Technology conference. :-) - Mitchell Tsai
@Mitchell, I'll definitely write some posts from there. Really looking forward to it, which may reveal a bit too much how geeky I really am. - Carla Thompson
Now I'm eager to find out who Obama picks as VP..... One thing for sure... after becoming the GOP candidate, I would be extremely dissapointed if Clinton were added to the ticket. Let's hear your picks for VP.... - Chris Reed
McGovern has switched his support this morning. I especially like the idea of Clark for VP for some reason.... - Shellee OBrien
Wow. Clark for VP. I hadn't thought of that. Great idea! - Bill Bittner
Must reveal some bias here - Shellee and I worked for Clark during his presidential bid so I know where that sentiment is coming from. ; ) I don't know that he'd do it though, with his Clinton allegiance. - Carla Thompson
What about Edwards? Anyone think that's a possibility? Could help answer the elitist argument, at least with his poverty focus. - Carla Thompson
Too retro. Need a handout to Clinton supporters which Clark satisfies. Could carry a southern allegiance too. Have also heard rumors of Bayh. That satisfies the Clinton equation but not the geogarphy. - Shellee OBrien
I've heard the Bayh rumors too and see your point about an appeasement for her supporters. What about a woman? Harman? Boxer? um... How sad is it I can't think of any others? Pelosi's too happy in her catbird seat, or whatever that phrase is. - Carla Thompson
I had so many comments on the vice president matter that I dug out a blogger page I was contemplating and posted there. Quick synopsis: I love Hagel, and could also go for Edwards or Clark. But the one name I haven't been hearing who I think might be perfect (And gives Carla an end to her sadness of not thinking of other female candidates) is Loretta Sanchez. See the link to my blog on my FriendFeed: "Who Wants to Be a Vice President.".... - Chris Reed
I <3 Hagel but no one really knows who he is. Dem base wouldn't tolerate it either. The Loretta Sanchez proposition is interesting but not likely. Only a CA liberal could even imagine there might be wind in those sails, says the moderate TX dem. ;^) - Shellee OBrien
@Shellee Well, I'm a former CA moderate that's now a NV moderate, so there... :-) - Chris Reed
Hagel - love him so. And my fantastic father was a big fan too. But yeah, I don't think the Dems would let that happen. - Carla Thompson
Like it or not, I think we need the security blanket of an old white guy on the ticket. People want change but in teaspoons not shovels. - Shellee OBrien
Dean out and Dodd is a dud. A very friendly and respectable dud but a dud. It'd be like Obama wrapping himself in a soggy white gym sock. Dean has solid footing where he is and won't leave it. Webb would be a great way to go. - Shellee OBrien
Congressional Quarterly has had some fun with this question for the GOP ticket. Voting for the second round of VP Madness is open through the 12th
