It's interesting that this phenomenon is now affecting gender issues in business. I will definitely keep writing and will, hopefully, not need to at some point soon!"

Maybe I am asking too much? Most people think my family failed me because they did not call or e-mail. Trust me, we had that conversation too. But in theory, if they were using a medium that I use, and updating it, Facebook could be improved by learning that my sister has relevancy to me and a life changing event also has relevancy. The question is, how can they do that, if previously, I have ignored her activity and photos? :)
- Louis Gray
How'd you lure me back onto FriendFeed, Louis? Sneaky, you. I do think you're asking too much. Haven't thought it through completely but there's something here that ties into the mass consumer attitude of social media versus those of us in the technosphere.
- Carla Thompson
Looking forward to your post, Carla. :)
- Louis Gray
totally got a cool idea for new schwag... two items: for new Moms, a friend feed shirt with slots for easy feeding of infants... and for new Pops like Louis, nipple with bottle attachment inserts with one nipple coming out of the first f and the second nipple coming out of the second d... saweet!
- Rob Reed
FF schwag and twins! best picture of the day!
- Sarah Perez
Mega awesome ;) Congratulations to you and your family, like the Friendfeed t-shirt ;)
- Mario Olckers
Tiny... little... eentsy... lumps of yum. There, my estrogen has officially shown itself.
- Carla Thompson
No way - they have FF onesies??? How do I get my hands on one of those?

Mad Dog Palin--The scariest thing about John McCain's running mate isn't how unqualified she is - it's what her candidacy says about America : Rolling Stone - http://www.rollingstone.com/politic...
WOW...This is not just another article digging at palin - it is THE article digging at palin and her 'cultural' significance.
- Anna Haro

"The great insight of the Palin VP choice is that huge chunks of American voters no longer even demand that their candidates actually have policy positions; they simply consume them as media entertainment, rooting for or against them according to the reflexive prejudices of their demographic, as they would for reality-show contestants or sitcom characters. Hicks root for hicks, moms for moms, born-agains for born-agains."
- Anna Haro
The truly disgusting thing about Sarah Palin isn't that she's totally unqualified, or a religious zealot, or married to a secessionist, or unable to educate her own daughter about sex, or a fake conservative who raised taxes and horked up earmark millions every chance she got. No, the most disgusting thing about her is what she says about us: that you can ram us in the ass for eight...

"Democracy doesn't require a whole lot of work of its citizens, but it requires some: It requires taking a good look outside once in a while, and considering the bad news and what it might mean, and making the occasional tough choice, and soberly taking stock of what your real interests are."
- Anna Haro
See, I believe that as a citizen you have the responsibility to pay attention to the people who will represent you and the laws they enact in your name. But with poor reporting and politicians doing so much behind closed doors, there's a dumbing down of American culture that's acceptable. How many people have you talked to who seem to have an opinion they want to spout on politics and in the same breath state proudly, "Politics bores me." or even worse, "All politicians are the same."?
- Anika
Wow, that's a hell of a picture. After reading the first two paragraphs, all I could think was how badly Matt Taibbi wants to be Hunter S. Thompson.
- Carla Thompson
Personally, I like Rolling Stone articles. But a word of caution.. they are always unapologetically extremely left-leaning.
- Phil Glockner
hahaha...Carla, I thought the same thing.
- Anna Haro
The ironic thing is that the media is the primary cause of all this. Reducing politicians statements to sound bites where a few words from a larger speach can be spun one way or another. Politicians don't have to have grand ideas or positions, they just stick to hot button issues that play well on TV. Couple that with lobbyists and special interest groups to give them butt loads of...

I honestly don't know what the terms "left" and "right" mean anymore in American politics. I try to figure out who has the best command of the facts and who is making the most sense. This article makes a great deal of sense. (If I must define myself politically with a label, it would be "progressive libertarian.")
- Sean McBride
"Here's what Sarah Palin represents: being a fat fucking pig who pins "Country First" buttons on his man titties and chants "U-S-A! U-S-A!" at the top of his lungs while his kids live off credit cards and Saudis buy up all the mortgages in Kansas." - wow...harsh.
- Chris Hollander
Very interesting read, though disturbing. I put my money on McCain/Palin winning the election.
- ˈpɛbə
I don't think I'd talk with him too much at a party. ;)

Classic: "After eight years of unprecedented corruption, incompetence, waste and greed, the party of Karl Rove understood that 50 million Americans would not demand solutions to any of these problems so long as they were given a new, new thing to beat their meat over."
- Raoul Pop
Taibbi *nails it* w/ the consumption of candidates as media entertainment. Infotainment has utterly corrupted news such that they are largely indistinguishable now. A huge disservice to the populace. And, of course, it results in this insane Reality TV show in front of us.
- Ayşe E.
wow..such poignant words. The article still resonating even after reading it through.
- Alan Le
Why is the entire country not going, "WTF? You can't find a person more qualified in the entire Republican party? REALLY?!?!" Her selection was condescending to our entire citizenry, and everyone seems to be rolling with it.
- Robert Fischer
why aren't they more outraged? because they're living vicariously via the pit bull. they see her and say, 'she's just like me'. but prettier and i bet you they aren't willing to admit that. so they over-identify with her and i'm left saying, 'yea, but i wouldn't vote you president of a committee of 2.'

Liked only because of the picture, not because I have any interest in US politics. ;-)

"But watching Palin's speech, I had no doubt that I was witnessing a historic, iconic performance. The candidate sauntered to the lectern with the assurance of a sleepwalker — and immediately launched into a symphony of snorting and sneering remarks, taking time out in between the superior invective to present herself as just a humble gal with a beefcake husband and a brood of healthy,...

"The rest of Palin's speech was the same dog-whistle crap Republicans have been railing about for decades. Palin's crack about a mayor being "like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities" testified to the Republicans' apparent belief that they can win elections till the end of time running against the Sixties. (They're probably right.)"

dear god, if you exist and hear prayers, please please, let there be some notion of civility return to this country in my lifetime. a man.

So here's my question for Dallasites: what neighborhoods do you love in Dallas County? I'm open to burbs, as long as they're in Dallas Co. Must. Get. Out. Of. Collin.
We're looking for a place, too. We live near Presby (Greenville & Walnut Hill area). Used to be a nice neighborhood, but they're closing a lot of run-down apartments in the area, and the knuckleheads are moving in too close.
- ha3rvey (Hugs 50% off!)
I'm not necessarily looking for funky either. Just more established, greener (as in actual trees and landscaping) and more diverse than my current west McKinney location. I've got nowhere to go but up. ; ) I've taken a liking to Springpark in Garland but there is almost nothing for sale there.
- Carla Thompson
Love hoods around the lake. Pretty partial to Little Forest Hills, so much so I made a film about them in 2007 - insert plug ;-) - http://www.subdivided.net I grew up there and didn't like it much at the time, but the place has changed. Unfortunately due to development and other issues it is changing again.
- Dean Terry
I have a mental list of what I'm looking for in a neighborhood: bike-friendly, old trees, diverse, few if any McMansions, etc. Having a hard time finding something like that so far. (that I can afford)
- ha3rvey (Hugs 50% off!)
Yeah, that "afford" qualifier is the doozy. I suppose that's the trade-off: live in homogenous McKinney and get a whole bunch of house or live in a shack in a thriving neighborhood.
- Carla Thompson
We recently moved to the White Rock/Lakewood area. It's nice. We're renting an apartment, and haven't looked at home prices, but so far, we really like the area.
- ha3rvey (Hugs 50% off!)
There were tornado warnings on the TV when I lived in Pittsburgh. It freaked the hell out of me when I was saw a 'high alert get in the basement for the next 20 minutes'-style warning and then realized I was watching a TiVo buffer of 30 minutes and the terror had passed while I was blithely watching The West Wing in my attic apartment.
- Kevin Fox
That is friggin hilarious. Yeah, sometimes ignorance truly is bliss. That's why I hate the damn sirens. If I'm going to be swept off into Munchkin Land, hiding in the bathtub ain't going to help much.
- Carla Thompson
That's terrific! It's funny how Hillary still loses states she 'wins' (Texas and Nevada, I'm lookin' at you)
- Kevin Fox
Sure, but I tend to think of that as extreme recklessness on the part of the press. Certainly, in the case of her loss in Texas, there was no reason to report that she 'won'. Not quite sure how that happened.
- j1m
And I think this paradox Kevin mentions hi-lights the strength of Obama's campaign. HRC has been conducting a pretty traditional primary campaign. Obama is running away with it thanks to some new-fangled ideas.
- Shellee
Yes. He's good at winning elections, in a way we haven't seen since at least Reagan.
- j1m
Excellent piece on the issue of hate groups on Facebook. 'You do not combat ignorance by trying to cover up that ignorance exists. You confront it head on. Facebook will do the world no good by trying to become its thought police.'"
- Carla Thompson
Trying to wrap my head around leaving for Europe tomorrow. Five cities in ten days equals high potential for all sorts of mishaps. Send good travel vibes my way please.
Looks like a wide swath of Texas saw this. Current guess from the media is that it's a fragment from the satellite collision last week. Looking forward to seeing this pan out, but this is another good example of Twitter being ahead of traditional media.
- Kevin Fox
Chris, my husband had the same comment on my tweet. And yes, we both saw it and are not, thankfully, crazy. They're now backtracking and saying it wasn't satellite debris. Our alien overlords have arrived!
- Carla Thompson
I am glad Obama is going to try and embrace technology. Despite security and privacy issues, it's time for the presidency to adapt.
- Louis Gray
I think my favorite quote in here is, "But Obama, who succeeds the unpopular George W. Bush on Tuesday..." I love that they included the qualifier there.

"Five of the Somali pirates who released a hijacked oil-laden Saudi supertanker drowned with their share of a reported $3 million ransom after their small boat capsized…" The sea was angry that day, my friends.

Why I love my Southern mother: her response when someone did her a handyman favor was "It's a more complicated job than I thought. I'll have to make a pie."
"Then what? Did Cialella run for it? Nope. He sat back down in his seat and watched the movie as others ran from theater."

At some point MTV released a DVD of Chris Cunningham videos - among them the super-disturbing Squarepusher and Aphex Twin videos. I got it right after release. IIRC Michel Gondry and Spike Jonze also got their respective DVDs, not sure though. It must have been ten years since ;)
- Mustafa K. Isik
Merry Christmas everyone. And I love that Obama is going to "erase the memory of the long, corpulent national nightmare that was President Taft."
- Carla Thompson
lame-o's...but then it gave you an excuse to make a sign full of awesome!
- Josh Haley
The only response to the theft of something like this is to replace it with something that represents an even bigger blight on the neighborhood. Hence the sign. If they take the sign we're talkin' gnomes and cars on blocks.
- Kevin Fox
BOOOOO! Also, agreeing with Josh that the sign if full of WIN.
- Ladyepiphanybug
Its especially annoying because I can't even buy another one. Target is sold out everywhere. I had to buy the display one to have one at all. Mean neighborhood Grinch! *sighs*
- Rachel Lea Fox
Thieves are pathetic and all that but I totally see why they stole it - it's friggin *awesome*! ; )

Baconsalt! And now it's selling in UK from www.crazy4flavour.co.uk with quick delivery and way lower shipping cost than getting it from Seattle!
