Now, now, Jeff. I mentioned in the article that I typically prefer native apps or Web apps to AIR apps, but this one is very interesting, at least to me. I dig it.
- Louis Gray
im just trying to be funny...hehe good post btw.
- (jeff)isageek
ah! and I was wondering why my twitter vanity search hit on that topic as I do not like the air apps. but grouping actually would be a reason to try it out. problem: as long as twitter decimates the request rates it is unreliable, but a first step in the right direction. will download it now ;)
- Nicole Simon
Louis, I think you're right - there is still innovation happening around Twitter, fortunately. The fact is there is still a huge audience on Twitter and that audience still has the potential to be monetized. I'm even building something around Twitter at the moment. There is still that threat though, that developers could leave if Twitter keeps neglecting them - it's in the back of the mind
- Jesse Stay
"feels" like Twhirl. Wish it had FF support...if it does it wasn't obvious from the website. I agree with others that I'd really like to see these Adobe air apps with some better skins
- Rob Neville
from twhirl
"Now, now, Jeff. I mentioned in the article that I typically prefer native apps or Web apps to AIR apps, but this one is very interesting, at least to me." - That's part of why I like the platform so much. Most people like native apps but AIR apps are pretty easy to build so there's bound to be a few that people really like. (Ryan - rstewart@adobe.com)
- Ryan Stewart
Obviously I can't provide a lot of detailed plans and guarantees, but I can tell you that I'll do my personal best to ensure that the FriendFeed users and community are treated right. I love this product too, and don't want to see it disappear.
We love you guys and FriendFeed.. we are just a little hurt and worried.. just please give us details as soon as possible.
- Tim Hoeck
FriendFeed lets me use people as filters to turn data into information. Facebook doesn't. Until it does, please, Please, PLEASE keep FriendFeed as a destination alive.
- AJ Kohn
congrats guys! facebook needs what you got!
- Lorna Herf
I'm sorry that I haven't said more about this. As you can imagine, it has been an extraordinarily busy day (and I've barely slept in the past week).
- Paul Buchheit
I'll add my plea to the chorus: Please don't take FriendFeed away from us. And don't make us go to Facebook (because we won't). FriendFeed means a lot to a lot of people and the thought that it will dry up and blow away shortly is very disturbing.
- Her Lindsay-ness
It's still great to hear from you Paul. Congrats on that new swimming pool full of cash. :D
- Internet's Tad
Simply glad you're here now. You've always been a very responsive and transparent team. As much as I cringe at the thought of FF going away, I *am* happy for you and the team.
- AJ Kohn
I request you make it to the next scheduled FFundercats podcast to talk to the community. This announcement deserves a live appearance to the community.
- Eric @ CS Techcast
Have been dealing unsucessfully with Twitter for two days, trying to get logged in...Their password reset page says"Snap we can't find you." I keep writing to Tech Support at Twitter and get their helpful auto-generated Twitter Trouble shooting email. My problem is not there. =( Hope FriendFeed does not get that blaise about helping users. @EV
- SashaKane
If FB can't keep the service running, would you consider open-sourcing the thing, so we can?
- Christopher Galtenberg
from iPhone
Hi Paul, thanks for the assurances. In the future, I would highly suggest that you make this sort of statement shortly after the initial merger release. Thanks again.
- Alex Scoble
I would like to give you a hug right now Paul. However, that would be awkward and April might beat me up so I will just say thank you and press the like button.
- EricaJoy
Thank you for affirming that. Much appreciated.
- Karoli
A few more points that would be nice to have addressed soon. Ability to export data, tool to import friends to Facebook, and will ff.im urls continue to function?
- Mark Krynsky
Those that like friendfeed as is should be most pleased with this statement, as it probably means maintenance to keep the current system as is, without as much attention to new features. It's also good news for all those who like both friendfeed and facebook, as facebook will likely adopt the better features from friendfeed
- Ivan Kirigin
Thanks for making FriendFeed what it is, and lets hope it stays that way, though there's slim chance of that
- Aaman (Clone of FF)
Now that I think about it: are you kidding me? They've already stated that FriendFeed's going to be absorbed into Facebook. What kind of sleight-of-hand are you trying to pull now, Paul?
- Akiva Moskovitz
@EricaJoy: I have nothing against hugs. :)
- April Buchheit
Thanks, Paul. I've been getting more and more depressed thinking about the bad ways this could go. The reassurances help a bit, at least. In fact, just hearing you speak on the point is encouraging - the open lines of communication between the FriendFeed team and its users has always been one of the great things about FriendFeed that I'm afraid will be lost with the Facebook buyout. And yes, a FFundercats appearance would be a great idea.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
I don't want to read too much into this reassurance but the "personal best" remark made me think like there is not a united FF anymore and that it's up to your personal efforts to prevent it from being eaten by FB :)
- Turker Keskinpala
you can sell the tech but the community can not be bought sold transferred or merged
- Robert Higgins
from f2p
Turker, I do believe that this deal was the right decision -- I'll write a bit more about that when I get a chance. I say that I'll do my "personal best" because I will -- it would be misleading to make promises on other's behalf :)
- Paul Buchheit
Paul: I'm hopeful that this will be the best for both Facebook and Friendfeed. What you and the staff at FF have done is amazing, with only 12 people! I love the service here. I also enjoy Facebook (one I ignore all quizzes and stupid apps), but in a different way. Hoping some coolness can be brought to both. Good luck to you and your team!
- Travis B. Hartwell
this echoes star wars galaxies, incredible unique community. but they upgraded it to be like world of warcraft. this is a replay of the devs soothing messages. the forums were livid the community evaporated.
- Robert Higgins
from f2p
When socialmedian was acquired by Xing they left it alone. I hope the same happens here. I'm sure you will do your best though!
- Michael Fidler
On behalf of the Dutch citizens our Queen wants to let you know: Thx Paul.
- Ton Zijp
Don't know what to say, so lets start with big congrats! from one hand, as an early member of Friendfeed I think we've created here a very cool, collaborative and tech-savvy/passionate community of great people that all probably wish to stick around as much as possible. From the other hand, I know how corporates work and it takes one small decision of share holders to close Friendfeed...
- Nir Ben Yona
My first reaction is disappointment. I don't believe big corporations do better than small ones. Facebook is inferior to FriendFeed, although it's user base is much larger. Clearly FriendFeed won't survive in the long term, unless it is open sourced. Why not open up and embrace the wonders of the GPL instead of joining forces with the Walled Garden no #1? Facebook don't even operate with permalinks,.
- Morten Blaabjerg
Thanks for the explanation Paul. Of course, I congratulate you guys. I think anyone would do the same thing if they were in your shoes :)
- Turker Keskinpala
I iread it. Literally Friendfeed is dead. Privacy, security and the owner of facebook sucks, and so will FF now. But what's with my data now? When I delete my account, are my postings deleted, too? Can I backup my postings somehow?
- Ryo / Fuck Facebook
Ryo: if you delete your account everything goes away. I totally disagree with you about Facebook, but that's OK.
- Robert Scoble
Good to hear. Unfortunately I think Facebook are going to download the brains of all FriendFeed staff then kill FF.
- Michael McGimpsey
but Paul it is going to disappear - Facebook bought FF not for the site but for you guys. So obviously once its integrated into Facebook, development on FF will stop
- Anthony Feint
If FriendFeed and all of it's functionality get integrated into Facebook I'm all for it.
- Hugh Isaacs II
Paul - that's great news. It surely can't cost a lot to keep this place running and it's a good place to try out ideas before they move to FB.
- Martin Bryant
what about improving the product and making sure it gets more users, not only supports those who stay?
- Ihar Mahaniok
Ihar - unlikely. Facebook bought FF for the developer talent, not for FriendFeed itself.
- Martin Bryant
from iPhone
Why should we believe this? I'm not going to hold my breath.
- Mark Wilson
Martin - I also think so, and it is most likely. But I could still have a hope
- Ihar Mahaniok
Paul, please - underpromise & overdeliver...they say it works.
- A.T.
Nice to hear. Too bad you don't call the shots anymore.
- jcunwired
FriendFeed is Dead! Long Live FriendFeed! (nice name for Facebook skunkworks) I'm sure everyone would love to see FriendFeed itself stay around, even if the innovations that happen are geared towards implementation at Facebook. Thanks for this note Paul! :)
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
There are a few promises and guarantees that you SHOULD be able to provide. Like, that our network of friends will remain intact and that the features that make this site great will remain. If you can't make those promises, then you shouldn't have done the deal. I sure do hope that the real-time search engine wasn't the centerpiece of this deal (it probably was), because that certainly...

Paul you did such a nice job with friendfeed, and I so want to believe you, but I'm not sure I can. Not because of you, but because of your new employer. Because your new employer is no longer you, and while I have kind of come to trust you, I do not trust your new boss. Not at all. Please prove me wrong, if they'll let you.
- Jim Hearts FF
Paul - thanks for that reassurance. PLEASE stick to that! I was in the middle of reading and participating in a lengthy discussion off of a Robert Scoble post yesterday ... then I came up for air and saw your news. Congratulations - I have no idea what that feels like or how pumped you must be. There are so many things FF does that I LOVE...I know you know that. Please Please PLease dont' go away! Thanks!
- Tobin Truog
Thank you, I think everyone here loves Friendfeed. :)
- Hunt
from BuddyFeed
This is nice to hear, and I really hope that FriendFeed will keep on living. I still have some pain in my stomach because of this :/
- Patrik Johansson
First zombie/mafia request and we're all outta here....
- Fossil Huntress
+1 Fossil Huntress The partitioning of the networks between friendfeed and facebook was a major feature that many people made use of, lacking appropriate controls for who sees what. Merging the two groups of friends isn't going to work, at all.
- Mr. Gunn
we all know what needs to happen. the question is, where? ... FB needs, - apart from being/it is, a large, general, open application platform, - 1. Smart keyboard shortkatze - and Im a kbsCzar to go to, 2. Aggregating facilities, smart /RSS/ .. 3. Full blogging facilities, capabilities, not 140 chars. 4. Full real time comments facilities, capabilities. 5. Real time, live, but ALSO...

- Kamilah Gill
Thank you! I am sure you will do great things at FB. I just hope that the great app you built here isn't destroyed. I don't know of any other aggregation app that I can embed into my site like this one!
- beersage
Congratulations on your successes, best wishes for more. And thanks for continuing to look out for us loyal, addicted FFanatics!
- Rob Schieber
I hope it continues, i'm a new user and absolutely love it (wish i knew the value of it before)! Congrats!
- Luis D. Santos
As nice as it sounds I'm sorry to say that as a, now, Facebook's employee I'm afraid you'll have to comply to whatever your new boss tells you. Didn't MZ make it clear?
- lelapin
and let me add second, obvious, "Facebook needs" - Friendfeed bookmarklet, and Friendfeed tools - widgets, embedding - real time and not - of posts, and groups ...to embedd, to inject oneself into this thing called Internet ..... so, if FB listens to FF engineering long enough, they are going to get it .. right
- Petr Buben
Paul, what I am worried is not that you're brainwashed, but that there's simply no business need for Facebook to improve FriendFeed from now on, period.
- Ihar Mahaniok
I have confidence Paul. While some of the comments were probably uncalled for, covering an investment (of time and money) in these times to move on and hopefully provide even 'better stuff' makes sense to me. It's pretty obvious there are a LOT of people that don't want to 'lose' Friendfeed. (I wouldn't hold a town hall for a few weeks though :)
- Charlie Anzman
Congrats, Paul. It's sad that people have to make these uncalled for hatred comments about Facebook though. Why can't both sites work together. I think Facebook will do better with FF and vise versa. Take the good features of both services. Don't boycott FB, enjoy it. I'm sick of the negative comments going on, that's all. :(
- Mol, Time Warping
Molly: What makes you think there's going to be a "vise versa?"
- Christopher A Carr
Because I don't think Paul and the other FF developers would allow FB to do anything. I'm sorry, I am not going to think negative here like some here are. I guess I'm a fangirl for FB.
- Mol, Time Warping
Finally something about the changes on the horizon that isn't all d0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0om and whining. Thank you, Paul! :D
- Christian (Simply X)
The time to think about how you could do your 'personal best' to ensure FriendFeed continues to exist was prior to the discussions with Facebook. Not after.
- Andy C
Paul, what about the content scam that FB T&C is, does it apply to Friendfeed now? Should we all start writing scripts to retroactively delete all content ever uploaded to Friendfeed? Elaborated a bit here - http://friendfeed.com/mbravo...
- Michael Bravo
We know you'll try your best, Paul. But sometimes, you just can't win the dark side...
- Winston Teo
Thanks Paul for all your efforts. Founders often want the best, but acquiring companies often have people with political/power issues or different/limited visions.
- Mitchell Tsai
*throws a sheep at Paul* is that a good thing?
- Joe....
from iPod
yes, thank you, Sergeant Paul ... well, good to hear we go on ... because if not, how about starting www.anotherFeed.com ... or, www.Letsgofeed.com ...... anyway, lets boost blogging capabilities, post more than current amount of chars, lets have TOP POSTS / clicks count list at the head of each group, some stats, lets index group headers, lets have MORE keyboard shortcuts .. - now ......

Is it wrong for me to feel a certain sense of betrayal? I didn't spend all my time here making connections, adding in interesting content and trying to get friends to join so that friendfeed would get acquired by Facebook.
I guess I should be glad that I made a bunch of new friends here and have learned a lot, but I just wish that the guys at friendfeed hadn't sold out to a company that doesn't really need what friendfeed has.
- Alex Scoble
Whatever, Chris, I'm not amused.
- Alex Scoble
from IM
@Alex: I completely agree... and I haven't been and won't ever be on Facebook...
- Harold
not wrong at all. I actually feel a little hurt.
- Jim Hearts FF
Yeah, I think betrayed is a good description...
- Her Lindsay-ness
But let's be honest, they built this to make money and survive. Gotta say I'm pleased it's shown to be worth something, and I'm guessing a significant something for FB to acquire them. Wonder if they were offered shares in FB as part of the deal?
- Mark Aitken
I guess we are all betrayed - in certain terms.. but FB should have done its market research before it got this property. Most of the USERS are not happy with FB type of connections or that property , so we left and looked for something better, it was FF. Now a new hunt will begin !
- Peter Dawson
actually, you kinda did. if users like you didn't create so much value, Facebook wouldn't have acquired (notwithstanding feelings of betrayal).
- jeffscott
I share your sentiments in many ways. I have been proud to tell others who had no idea that FF existed how good it is (lets hope not was!) Lets hope they keep the spirit alive. By the way the minute I see any target 'phorm' style advertising, I am off to find a new up and coming. I wont run to Tumblr yet but I do have one foot in already, just in case.
- Kevin J Hatton
My immediate reaction was Facebook will push ads onto their users. I think FriendFeed could be seriously screwed up with live moving ads, so that's hopefully out of the picture from a purely usability view. Friendfeed is all about realtime web information. I then wonder how in that case will the monetise the relationship. My guess? Facebook will show live conversations and hopefully they will rip out the poor IM implementation in Facebook. The purchase may be nothing more sinister, I hope...
- Mark Aitken
Feeling a bit of betrayal, or unhappiness atleast. Have a Facebook account but rarely use it since it's a walled garden. Preferred Friendfeed for better technology, organization, but even more so it's openness!
- LonelyBob
Betrayed is a strong word, but I do feel a loss of ownership. And it's not like I really 'owned' the community, or the content I put into it. All the same, I contributed, and the more a person contributes to something, the more they feel a sense of entitlement (?) or ownership. Now it's as if I've had someone just pull a rug out from under me.
- cecily
I don't give 2 cents if that's wrong or not but I feel betrayed.
- vijay
Peter, I doubt FB gives a crap about FF users. FB wanted the talent that worked at FF, not the product.
- Jeff P. Henderson
I understand the sentiment, but this is the way of tech apps;.nothing stays the same for long. Feeling betrayed is not gonna change anything. Either you roll with the changes and try to force the positive, or you quit.
- Rene Wirtz
I agree with Cecily that betrayal is a strong word. I have always understood that FriendFeed is a free service, thus I can't claim control over it. Though, really, I wonder what s going to happen to my thousands of likes, comments, posts, etc.
- Rishabh Mishra (p248)
Completely concur with you Alex. Just goes to show maybe there is room for another platform...
- Arleen Anderson
As I said elsewhere, this was a talent + buzz acquisition. I sorta wish I could download my FF history and host it on my own server with SweetCron or something.
- Anthony Citrano
+1 Alex. EndFeed's the word... well, how about everybody grieves for 5 minutes, then gets the search for greener pastures under way. There was plenty to be improved about FriendFeed (been saying that since well before this announcement), so I just hope that someone else has the databasing/real-time wherewithal to build something like this, improved.
- Alex Schleber
Facebook doesn't even give a crap about their own users
- Alex Scoble
from IM
Do any of these sites give a crap though Alex? I understand what you are saying and how it makes you feel this way, but I realised a long time ago.. they are ALL businesses and the bottom line is NO they don't give a crap... because they are NOT depending on you to be ok..
- Rob Sellen :o)
friendfeed at least acted as though they gave a crap...at least until today. And there's nothing about being a business that says "crapping on your customers is OK". Business is business does not equal "screw your customers to make a buck".
- Alex Scoble
from IM
That and stunned. Lately I've been describing Friendfeed to the uninitiated as "a facebook without all the crap." Unfortunately, it looks like now it'll just be integrated into all the crap, if kept at all. That said, congratulations to the FF team - this is a big win for them and they deserve a lot of kudos. I look forward to the web apps they come up with in the future.
- Chris Rogers
"Is it wrong for me to feel a certain sense of betrayal?" - in an emotional sense, no. In a literal sense, yes, unless you can show me where FriendFeed made a commitment to you that they'd never change in a way that didn't fit your ideals for the service.
- Edward Coffey
i'm just hoping they will keep friendfeed separate and use it as a testing ground for new features.
- Edgar Rodríguez
They made a commitment to us when they built a service that wasn't called Facebook or Twitter. They made a commitment to us when they listened to our feedback and participated in our feeds. They made a commitment to us with their actions. A commitment that has been forever shattered with their deal with the internet equivalent of the devil.
- Alex Scoble
from IM
Lindsey is right.. the thing is Alex... friendfeed is STILL here... ;o) YOU are still here...
- Rob Sellen :o)
Not for long, Rob. I give friendfeed a year tops.
- Alex Scoble
from IM
And forget about any improvements to the site. You know that the team will be much too busy trying to figure out what the next iteration of Facebook should look like.
- Alex Scoble
from IM
I can empathize with these sentiments, but Social Media is a set of tools--I appreciate the connections I make, but I'm not getting too emotionally worked-up about the tools changing.
- Rob Michael (Atmos Trio)
Yep , definitely a sense of foreboding there ... "for the time being"
- Tom Horn
why? friendfeed.com is not going anywhere is it... no reason this place couldn't stay.. what if they LOCKED friendfeed users in now.. said.. we WILL reward you users for helping us, testing things for us etc... ;o)
- Rob Sellen :o)
Rob...did you not notice who bought them? Facebook is known for doing dick for their users.
- Alex Scoble
Absolutely not Alex, I feel the same way. About 18 months' collection of content, great friends, an open community all gone. We now are marched into an atmosphere of censorship and walled relationships where users don't amount to a hill of beans. Really, really sucks.
- jcunwired
I'm sure FF is going away one way or another; there's no way that the combined company is going to keep developing full steam ahead on both products. Is it wrong to feel betrayed? I don't know. I don't personally feel betrayed, but I guess I'm not nearly as invested in FF as you and others are. I do think the end result may be something positive though; the ability to interact with the larger FB community on this level is something that could be truly wonderful. Then again, it might just end in tears...
- Tristan Seligmann
Especially when we consider that while they built the tools, we as a community are what made it great - both with our usage, our dedication and our regular feedback to make the site better. As I said before, its our fault FB even looked this way.
- jcunwired
"...internet equivalent of the devil" - ohh-kayy...*backs away slowly*
- Edward Coffey
betrayal isn't the word i feel. it's just business. i do agree with Anthony Citrano: I wonder if there's a way to pull all of my stuff out of FF and put it on my own machine. the year I've spent here, and the 2+ years on Twitter and FB, have been to the detrimiment of my own writing and content creation. The thing about all social media is they depend on users to fill their cyber-vessels with content, and then they make a living off of that...but it's pretty difficult for you to reclaim your "stuff" later.
- .LAG liked that
If Google's motto is "do no evil" then Facebook's motto is "do whatever we want to our customers, even when it makes absolutely no sense"...yeah, I'd consider that to be bordering on evil.
- Alex Scoble
from IM
I did Alex.. Facebook sucks in many ways, they treat users like shit... BUT does this deal mean the actual end of frienfeed.com < the domain etc... what about if this place is used like a testing place and kept here? who knows?
- Rob Sellen :o)
Ironic that! ToS & privacy & UCG & bandwidth & yet how much of that can be measured without actuarial measurements of packet flow? Not surprised based on much of the commentary the past 18 months. Attribution & authenticity matters.
- Scott Moskowitz
from iPhone
I think betrayal is appropriate - the FB community is NOT the FF community. Even if they make it better, or build something completely new, they will at some point shut down or gut what they have here.
- Jennifer Dittrich
As long as my stuff is still indexed, I don't really care. I love Facebook - and I love watching my real friends interact with my Internet friends. :)
- Mona Nomura
FWIW TXT is a bigger "content" biz than music, movies, games combined ... Yet this was not a predictable exit? Come on ... Said many times - what is a fair split for UCG & those that skim the packet flow?
- Scott Moskowitz
from iPhone
Betrayal is definitely appropriate. So is apprehension and a little bit of anger.
- Mike Lewis
I feel the same way! I'm glad I'm not alone in that feeling. I have facebook I don't like it as much I like FF.
- Anna Lynn M.
I don't feel betrayed. I am, however, worried. And I know people will jump all over me and say that I am a fool for thinking that anything online can stay hidden. I wasn't naive enough to think I'd never be found, but I take steps to try to head that off. I don't use my full name, I don't link certain social sites to the blog, I don't let the blog be indexed, etc. And now, with one...

- Michael W. May
Alex - Think you'd have to agree (despite the fact we don't know everything) that they were smart. On the other hand, it's pretty obvious you're not alone in your sentiments (Funny - posted this to Robert's stream first by boo-boo :)
- Charlie Anzman
Alex, I feel your pain - but someone was going to acquire FriendFeed. It was inevitable. I'm just glad Facebook didn't buy Twitter.
- Bill Sodeman
I would rather that Google bought friendfeed and Facebook acquired Twitter. That would have been justice. This...this is a travesty.
- Alex Scoble
So would I alex..but it never happened..
- Rob Sellen :o)
Do you think Microsoft finish the job and eat Facebook?
- τorƍue
I love the way FriendFeed works, I hate Facebook interfaces. I wish there was another FriendFeed-like service to jump to.
- Amit Morson
I've never found Facebook to be intuitive, and I just enjoyed the manner of connecting here. Not sure what to feel now.
- Rick Cogley
I don't think it's wrong to feel betrayed. If Facebook bought Twitter, honestly I would feel the same way. I think they're going to shutter the store here, which is kind of sad, but we'll see....
- matt singley
My fears are threefold. I fear unavoidable unwanted integration. I fear the addition of the awful Facebook TOS, and I fear the loss of the community. That last one is the big one.

Joe, perhaps FB may change their TOS...

It's all about the money, It's all about the dum dum didudumdum, I don't think it's funny...
- Dobromir Hadzhiev
Bill, that is a nice thought but it is very doubtful. It would solve a lot of the problem I have with them if they did though. I seriously just don't want to lose the awesome community that has built up here. I mean without FF how would I keep up with Alex, its not like I live in the same town....oh wait /stalkermodeactivate!

I'm really annoyed. I don't want to have something to do with that facebook nazis. Any suggestions where to go?

Would you have not spent all the time here (etc...) if you were told that this is a start-up business and could get acquired at any time? Or could run out of money and shut down at any time? At least you had a chance to make the connections and share/consume that content...for free. Looks like you're better off than you were before you joined, no?
- Mohamed J
Mohamed, yes, we should have known that we only get used for their pockets full of money, but you know facebook... anything, but facebook.
- Ryo / Fuck Facebook
Yes, that's probably an accurate way to describe it, a sense of betrayal. Of course, we're not paying money to use this good service though we are paying time and good will, so it can be argued I suppose that FF did not betray us. I'm feeling upset myself, because I have never liked FB much. I did not want to be on there but got invited by old friends. I don't like the walled garden...

- Rick Cogley
I especially feel crappy because I evangelized FF aggressively among my friends, most of whom are on Facebook.
- Ahsan Ali aka. Slick
To Alex Schleber: if you build it, we will come. Seriously, what Rick Cogley said too - I love that I can interact with almost anyone, not just people I'd interact with anyway and, in my case, have known forever. I love that it's like a small, really fun cocktail party with your friends, some of their friends, and a few strangers - as opposed to a convention (or, for me, a high school reunion!). Sad.
- Amy℠
It's not wrong to feel betrayed, but everyone has their price - sadly.
- David Jagger
The way the transaction was done is a betrayal of trust. Facebook can buy FF but not the trust of FF users. How much user pay for FF pay? Nothings? The time we invest in this application worth somethings unless you consider users of FF like shit.... Who care that crew of morons (FF users)? Just sell FF and move them like potatoes, right? Wrong! Trust can't be bought even with $50 Millions FriendFeed? Call it FailFriend. :S
- Claude LaFrenière
Yeah, Claude, it's definitely a trust thing.
- Rick Cogley
I'm not kosher, but I'm serious about the difference with kosher chicken... we have a shortage of kosher meat in upstate new york. We were always buying bel and evans chicken when the kosher stuff was gone. we just started ordering our kosher chickens to the house. I can't tell you why... it makes no sense at all... but kosher chicken just makes better chicken soup. it is that salt probably. but I'm not sure. I know I sound elitist when I say it... but I'm not asking you to be kosher... just taste test
- Noah David Simon
It is happening again, and it has got to stop this instant! I am making an effort to eat more sensibly to lose a few pounds. I realize there are different time zones involved, but most every evening after I've eaten my dinner, I sit here to have some chill time, and I get bombarded with food pics, which then get discussed. I then head for the refrigerator around 10pm for late evening snacks. It's all YOUR fault, do you hear?

jlt, this particular recipe actually calls for a little bit of vinegar. You might want to check it out, the link's above. Noah, when I make soup I only use Kosher salt and sea salt. And you're right, it definitely makes a difference.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Tina, I posted the recipe in the low carb room - it fits low carb criteria...I am an awful soup maker but will try this as it looks so darn good!
- Janet
my best friend is a Yemenite Jew. in Yemen they add Tumeric and a bit of curry to the soup. (also makes it more yellow which is appealing to the eyes)... it is yummy!
- Noah David Simon
Tumeric is great for adding color (works to dye paper too). I don't have any, but I do have some sweet curry. Might have to make some soup and try it. Thanks!
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
*putting back of hand on monitor to check its temperature* There, there, FF.
- Carmen
Julio, that looks yummy!!! Sometimes I go to a restaurant here for a chicken & rice soup that looks like a cross between our two posts: chicken broth, rice, chicken, pico de gallo, and sliced avocado with lime juice squeezed on top.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
*bump* FF is feeling poorly again today, so I'm reoffering the chicken soup and hot toddie from November. Get well soon, FF!!

Happy Birthday x 2. I can't believe it's been a year already!
- Michael Fidler
Be prepared for total cute overload :)
- Rob Diana
Louis: I just commented on your post and saw you use Disqus. Thinking of adding it to one of my blogs. Do you recommend it?
- Jim Connolly
Happy birthday, Matthew and Sarah! I had forgotten how small they were, they're practically giants now!
- Mike Nayyar
Happy Birthday babies! :) They really were so teeny. What did you do to them, Lewis? Don't you know you want to keep them little? hehe Have a great time and enjoy the first of many birthdays.
- Sheryl
Happy birthday sweet ones! It's been an amazing year, watching your grow up on Friendfeed. :)
- Daynah
Happy birthday. Slightly off topic, what kind of bouncer/jumper do you have? I am looking for one I can hang from a door opening into our kitchen, which doesn't actually have any door or trim. It seems like most of the ones I can find rely on trim.
- Robert Felty
My 1-month old has more hair than the two of them combined. Congratulations Louis :)
- Tamar Weinberg
Yay, happy birthday!!, happy birthday!! I can't believe a year has zipped by already, wow! {{{HUGS}}}

Happy Birthday, Sarah and Matthew! What an extraordinary first year we have enjoyed with you on FF! Thanks to Louis and Kristine for sharing the twins with us!
- Anne Bouey
Yay, Congrats Louis on your new one-year-olds.

Looking very serious/authoritative.... that is until I picture you saying, "Can we get this guy a new t-shirt over here?" Then I lawlz.
- Paul Reynolds
Largely motivated by not wanting to keep looking at Pelton & Crane's logo, which would make any decent typographer lose their lunch: http://www.cordellnet.com/images...

Associating your brand with pain, fear, spitting and rinsing?
- Johnny Worthington
Johnny: Definitely calls for a sans-serif font.
- Kevin Fox
It could be effective if it was a brand that promised to alleviate having to go to the Dentist as often... "Hate getting your teeth drilled? Should have used Crest." :)
- Frankie Warren
Heh, my dentist has a TV to watch. Custom commercials between programs might be a monetization opportunity.
- EricaJoy
I think I would despise and boycot whatever product was advertised there simply by association.
- veo
well the despising and boycotting would just be used by the competition. for example the Democrats could secretly sponsor a commercial for the Republicans: [sound of drill whirring] "Hi, this is John McCain..." [sound of drill slicing into teeth] "...I'd like to talk to you today about the Republican Party..." [burning smell] "...and ask for your support of Sarah Palin..." [pain of periodontal probe sinking into soft gum tissue]
- Karim
That's what the Amazon Kindle is, taking all the waiting moments and monetizing them by selling you books instead of you having to read crappy magazines.
- Piaw Na
My dentist has a bunch of ceiling posters, such as: http://www.dentalhealth.org.uk/shop... -- and if you search for "dental supply ceiling poster" you'll find this is a surprisingly well-supplied market.
- Stephen Mack
Of your nasty coffee and weird obsession with it? uhm. No. I have better things to obsess over. (I think.)
- pea ♥ fierce as a woozle
I think you're jealous that I love this cup of coffee more than I love you. I can appreciate that. However, in the spirit of true friendship, if you and I are ever in the same area code, I'll bring you a Cowboys coffee mug. You can drink whatever weird beverage you like from it.
- Ha3rvey (more more more)
Jealous of someone who would love a cup of coffee more than me? Please. Clearly you're delusional and crazy so why would I want you to love me? That kind of friend I don't need. I got enough crazy friends already. But also, yes, please bring me presents. I like presents. Even from crazy weird internet people.
- pea ♥ fierce as a woozle
I just realized you called me "crazy weird internet people" but you still want stuff from me. I feel so used. Coffee, you're the only one who understands me.
- Ha3rvey (more more more)
Before I can approve the use of the plural, I'm going to need to see a list. As I've already pointed out, I am not jealous of your icky coffee. You, therefore, were not referring to me, sir. As I see no other *women* engaged in this conversation, my previous statement referring to your less than stable state of mind must stand. As to the other point, I don't know what book you're...
- pea ♥ fierce as a woozle
C is for coffee, that's good enough for me. C is for coffee, that's good enough for me. Coffee, coffee, coffee starts with C.
- Ha3rvey (more more more)
In conclusion, I win! and I get a present. Yay! When are you getting here??
- pea ♥ fierce as a woozle
I still don't know. I've got jobs in Texas the next couple weeks, except for a one-day in Scottsdale, AZ. This "regionalization" is making things weird. I still don't get how Montana is in my region. Heck, I didn't think Montana was real until I saw it myself.
- Ha3rvey (more more more)
Oh, leave poor Montant alone. I feel a strange desire to stick up for it, though I don't know why. :)
- pea ♥ fierce as a woozle
"I would, but I gotta go help my Uncle Earl shoot some gophers over at his place."
- Ha3rvey (more more more)
:) Oh man. That still cracks me up. Just doesn't get old. How can you not love a state that brings you so much comedy?
- pea ♥ fierce as a woozle
I feel like I should publish a disclaimer about the states I visit. Montana was a nice place. The people there were very nice, and the scenery was beautiful. When it wasn't hailing. Or raining. Beautiful sunsets. When the clouds weren't in the way.
- Ha3rvey (more more more)
+++ for this thread. And an extra + for your Harvey for the 'wimmins'. LULZ!
- Yolanda
Oh, so now you're telling other people not to encourage me? Maybe Yolanda understands me better than you. :P
- Ha3rvey (more more more)
Doubtful. Yo just happens to be a much sweeter and kinder person than I will ever be. I have come to terms with this. You should too. It'll make you buying me presents much less of an annoyance for you.
- pea ♥ fierce as a woozle
It's interesting how any thread with .·*♥pea♥*·. in it turns into this. We need to get that girl some counseling, stat.
- B. Hatin
I need to sit down and reprioritize my online friendships. Perhaps divide them into "supportive friends", "other cool people" and "jealous internet wimmins".
- Ha3rvey (more more more)
Perhaps you should. Just be aware that I will be reviewing and approving any and all lists so you may want to be really thoughtful (read careful) about which list you put me on.
- pea ♥ fierce as a woozle
Fine, I'll let you pick the people in the "jealous internet wimmins" list.
- Ha3rvey (more more more)
Thank you, sir. A smart move, I think. Please to be knowing that I will also be renaming that list. You're still spelling it wrong. sigh.
- pea ♥ fierce as a woozle
What is it? You tell me it's wrong, but you don't offer any constructive advice. Is it "wemens", "wimmins", or "womens"?
- Ha3rvey (more more more)
Oh wow. You sooo don't even know the comment that popped into my head as a response. It's so mean though that I can't bring myself to say it. Ha! Self restraint and not putting funny ahead of everything else FTW!
- pea ♥ fierce as a woozle
Kaia, it only turns into this when people have trouble making sense. I can't very well call myself a friend and not try to help you folks out. I'm just too nice is what it is.
- pea ♥ fierce as a woozle
Too something . . . not sure if nice is the word I would have gone with, but hey.
- B. Hatin
You know, I was just in here minding my own business. Discussing something with my friend Harvey. Why you have to come in here and harass me is beyond me. I wasn't doing anything to you! Oh. Wait. Is that it? You're jealous that I wasn't paying attention to you! Well, I know which list I'm putting you on, missy.
- pea ♥ fierce as a woozle
IS IM GON BE ON JELOS INNERNET WIMMINS LIST, PEE?
- B. Hatin
How is that jealousy? When I'm sending you to carry someone else's melons? Uhm, what were we talking about again? Let's go back to the part where you buy me stuff because that part I'm clear on. Thank you.
- pea ♥ fierce as a woozle
I wasn't gonna buy it. Cowboys stuff is cheap when they're not winning. Dallas fans are fickle. I could get you a case of mugs for pocket change. There's a dude downtown who'll give me a whole pallet of Cowboys stuff if I haul it away.
- Ha3rvey (more more more)
Ah but Harvey, Harvey. It isn't about how much the gift costs, sir. It's the fact that you thought enough of me to give it to me because, after all, isn't that what friendship is all about? And isn't that what we're talking about here? sigh.
- pea ♥ fierce as a woozle
You're right. I should just bring you the gift and be done with it. One question, what am I gonna do with 2 dozen gross of Owens onesies?
- Ha3rvey (more more more)
Uhm, use them as rags, silly man. What else could they possibly be used for?
- pea ♥ fierce as a woozle
Pea, who needs that many rags? I swear, sometimes you just phone this stuff in.
- Ha3rvey (more more more)
Uhm, honey child. I live in Redskins Country. Where the team makes the folks cry so much the streets are awash in tears from preseason to the superbowl. They'll be put to good use, don't you worry.
- pea ♥ fierce as a woozle
Please. I'm a die-hard Saints fan. Everybody else is just fakin' the funk.
- Ha3rvey (more more more)
That's not a fight I'm prepared to fight seeing as how I'm not a fan of either team. So, since that chapter is closed again, about those gifts and when you'll be giving them to me. Did we ever settle on a date?
- pea ♥ fierce as a woozle
No date yet. I'm not sure when I'll be out that way again. Sometimes I get very little notice on my trips.
- Ha3rvey (more more more)
So, I'm catching up on this thread... why does everyone keep saying I'm nice, I don't get it. Grrrrrrrr!
- Yolanda
Yolanda: you gave me an extra + for "wimmins". Pea dismissed my spelling without even understanding my subtle nuances. She's all "Spell it right or shut up".
- Ha3rvey (more more more)
Excuse me, but I very rarely tell anyone to "shut up". Now shush and go read a dictionary or something.
- pea ♥ fierce as a woozle
Robert: You're welcome. Here, also, is a link to the Tehranlive.org "about" page. It lists Amir Sadhegi as the contact: http://tehranlive.org/about/

I saw so many of this kind of photo with my own eyes yesterday,I was there when they beat us,our people, to death just for yelling out where's our vote?!!
- TaaTaa
from fftogo
None of this reporting -- None of it -- would be possible without online tools. Robert -- there's the 2010 Web! I seem to remember your earlier question (a few months ago) about the definition of journalism. This is it. It's not up to the "paid journalists" at the NY Times or Chicago Tribune anymore. It's up to you, me, people like @jamesbuck, and the person who took this photo and put it online.
- Curt Mercadante
I'm not really surprised, Iranians are a lot more empowered than people in the West think. It is *not* Saudi Arabia!
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Robert: I didn't even think about the photographer! Thanks for pointing that out. I do believe I'll be looking at all these pics in a different light now.
- Alex Hellstrom
Thanks for getting this out. It's so easy to get lost in tweeting about our silly mundane lives that we forget how important images like this can result in making people aware and helping to make a difference in the world.
- mrsha
Curt, right, after listening to Scoble on a panel about the future of Journalism, and he was the only one "journalizing" it via Kyte, I wrote a post that the future of Journalism is a video camera or in this case a camera. I remember that it was the camera and video camera that stopped Vietnam for instance
- Stephen Pickering
And, putting aside for a bit whether or not CNN ignored the story -- we're now getting news that NBC's Tehran office may have been raided and the BBC has been told to "get lost." Under oppressive, censoring regimes like we have in Iran, North Korea and China -- citizen journalists empowered by new communications tools will be the ONLY way we get accurate news from these regions.
- Curt Mercadante
If anyone ever doubted the revolutionary, real-time impact of Social Media, this photo easily dispels those misconceptions....
- John Fenzel
Amir: you have a fan for life. I hope you do win the Pulitzer Prize. I think you got the iconic photo of the election protests. This one should hang in Newseum's Pulitzer Gallery. Can you tell us how you shot it, and give us more details about what was going on in your head as you pressed the shutter button? To everyone else, don't you love friendfeed?
- Robert Scoble
Amir: when I took photojournalism at San Jose State University one quote stuck in my mind from all those classes over the years "If your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough." That quote was from Robert Capa, here's an article in Time Magazine about it: http://www.time.com/time... You have gotten close enough. Congrats, I can't even imagine trying to get this close. I hope all comes out well for your country and you.
- Robert Scoble
Robert: I've only been using friendfeed for about 5 days and I'm already in love with it. I guess I picked a good time to try it out!
- Alex Hellstrom
This is an awesome post, heavily laced with WISDOM that some people will be too thick or dull witted to grasp. I hope it gets the attention it deserves!
- Ken Camp
Wow - excellent post. Too bad the people out there that believe "social = numbers game" won't get this.
- Chris Rogers
I agree Chris. It's a real shame that the people who need this sort of knowledge most simply won't get it. I'm not sure how we ever teach them where the real values lie.
- Ken Camp
Good thing I didn't write this for 'those' people, isn't it? :)
- Sheryl
Sheryl: If you didn't write it for "those people" does that mean it's my job to beat it into their heads with a clue-by-four? Cause I can do that! hehehe
- Ken Camp
As always, Ken, I appreciate your loving support. Ultimately, I'm a big girl. if I want to knock sense in someone...I can do it myself. That seems rather futile, but I love your sentiments ;)
- Sheryl
I know you appreciate my support honey. I wish more people really noticed how freakin brilliant you are. Most of the really good thoughts I have and write about come from our conversations. You shed so much light in areas I don't take time to consider. You keep me on my toes. People should listen to you more.
- Ken Camp
WTF? Find something else to nit-pick and keep Sesame Street out of it. Seriously, don't people have anything better to do than to rag on a children's show? GET A LIFE!!
- Mona Nomura
I will sleep well tonight. (And that pic is the bee's knees)

these cookies are like crack. I do not allow them in my house -- I will eat an entire pound bag without stop. But perhaps I will buy a bag this weekend to celebrate that they are still around!
- RudĩϐЯaЯïan
Oh man, they are definitely like crack. I also do not allow them in my house.
- Robert Miller
I agree that these cookies are like crack. They are the shiznit for sure. They are the only cookie I don't like with milk because the cold milk makes the frosting all weird and hard and waxy like. With coffee, OMFG they are damn good. And I like the oil spill they leave in my coffee cup when I dunk 'em.
- Morgan Haley
YEAH!! that is some worthy palm kernel cottonseed oil there baby!!! woo hoo!!
- Susan Beebe
You know what it is? It's the salt. The salt on the cookie, under the frosting, somehow makes it irresistible. Too damn yummy.
- Ciaoenrico
I havent had them in years. I need to get some the next time I am at the store. Its been probably close to 15 years since I had some.
- pcnerd37
I'm not a big cookie person, BUT I know people used to love these things. Thanks Kellogs!
- Adriana
Ciaoenrico- it IS the salt! That's the key to the yumminess! You figured it out! Hooray. I finally know why I'm fatter than I should be! And I don't care enough to not go buy a bag of these on the way home tonight!!!
- Morgan Haley
Good. I was afraid they were going to disappear. Our family used to love the mixed bag.
- mark zero (Jason)
I just noticed this. Kellogg = Northwestern's b-school and Kellog = cereal...? Hm, I need to Google. BRB. *edit: they are both Kellogg. Jeez. Confusing.
- Mona Nomura
They've been on the shelf here for a bit (like 2 weeks-ish) and we've bought them every chance we get so far. I know it's my imagination, but I can't help but feel that they taste a little different. :) I'm broken.
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
I bought a deodorant stick today. I'd never used one before, so I read the instructions. They said 'Remove top and slowly push up bottom'
I'm in great distress at the moment, but my farts smell lovely!!!
No he doesn't...I contest the result to the supreme court which I, of course, have in my pocket. They declared me the winner! Take that Al Gore!

I called "last" all the way back at the start, y'all. Keep going all you like. Because, if you take it literally "The LAST comment in this thread wins". My comment was "Last".
- Nine
I predict someone will need to gas up this thread at around 115 Comms., based on past mileage.
- Micah Wittman
Huh?? What crash? I can't bother expanding the comments.
- Roberto Bonini
This thread is already the most commented thread for the day.
- Alex Scoble
The next person to comment after me is a complete failure and will never amount to anything (still wanna post, ey?)
- Matt Harwood
Not even close, Matt. I have my failure shields up.
- Alex Scoble
Matt: May you live in interesting times. :)
- Roberto Bonini
Bahhhh! Worth a try I guess. Reminds me of when school kids used to say "Twats Say What" really quick, of course... you could do nothing but say What?! ;)
- Matt Harwood
I like puppies, but I like kittens the most.
- Alex Scoble
Why do like dollar costs averageing, Alex?
- Roberto Bonini
It's a good way to minimize risk buying in to a down market or selling in to an up market. Since you never know where the bottom or top is.
- Alex Scoble
I agree in principal but disagree with the statement
- CW™
ARE YOU READY FOR THIS? I googled "Who will win this thread" - Lo and behold an automotive forum thread was started March 2, 2006, has 3 comments just today (Feb 9, 2009), and has 975 comment pages totaling over ==> 14,600 COMMENTS <=== (and counting) http://forums.motortrend.com/70...

Let's get this party started for real this time. American Football, Baseball, AND Basketball are all complete rubbish. You may create your mosh pit now

Ok folks! That's it! Drink up and get out! You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here! Everybody out! Thanks for coming! See you tomorrow. Don't worry, I'll lock up....

This challenge is like a puffer train in the game of Life (as in cellular automata). It is structured to go on forever. Does FF have the server capacity to handle an infinite thread?

tehKenny has had his power to determine the winner of this thread stripped by the authority vested in the friendfeedosphere. Sorry man, but it's the last person who comments on this thread, ever. Not who you determine is the winner.

It is now 11:22 AM PST. If no one comments on this thread by 11:30 AM PST (you have 8 minutes) I declare myself the winner of this thread.

There was once a thread like this on Fark, that got so big everytime anyone would call it, it would kill the servers, they eventually just had to kill it.
- Matthew DeVries
oops, just BUMPed into this thread. I cant believe this is still floating around

shouldn't feed this. this is madness. I think you set a record, tehKenny. I'm probably the 50th person to say so... a bit scared to open & see, but I will..... ok, no, amended per what Micah said. 14,600????? good luck touching that one. you set an FF record though, for sure
